[Bug 711525] [NEW] Installation of elvis changes color settings of vim, making it unusable

2011-02-01 Thread Tiefflieger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: elvis

The installation of elvis changes the color settings of vi. The changed
settings render vi unusable, I had to uninstall elvis to revert that.
See Screenshots of the View of the same file displayed by vi before and
after installation of elvis.

Appeared on Maverick 64bit.

Thanks for Your work :-)

[Bug 675216] [NEW] Sbackup-restore: Unable to upgrade backup from 2009-07-13

2010-11-14 Thread Tiefflieger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sbackup

I created a backup on July 13th 2009, using up-to-date Jaunty with
Sbackup.

When trying to access that backup today (Nov 14th 2010), sbackup restore
told me that I had to upgrade that backup. I tried that, but an error
message telling me that a file named files.snar could not be found,
see attachment. After that, the backup seems to be corrupted, as
sbackup restore does not list it anymore (but I still have a backup of
that backup)

[Bug 426795] Re: empathy can't get roomlist (from irc.freenode.net)

2010-05-25 Thread Tiefflieger
So how am I supposed to join a channel if I don't know the exact
channelname?

For using IRC, a roomlist is crucial to me. As long as this room list
doesn't work I'll be using pidgin, just like Javier Hernández

[Bug 582267] [NEW] Creation of manual backup doesn't work in Lucid

2010-05-18 Thread Tiefflieger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sbackup

I've been using sbackup for a while now, but eversince i upgraded to
Lucid, the backup doesn't work anymore. i didn't change any of the
configuration. I used to make manual backups via the Backup now!
button only.

If I open simple backup config and click on that button now, it shows
as usual the pid the backup process has. Looking at the system monitor,
I can find that process with having status == Zombie, see screenshot.

But this process has the niceness 0 and will end as soon as I close the
simple backup config window

[Bug 573296] Re: Graphic acceleration sometimes not working

2010-05-09 Thread Tiefflieger
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

I know this bug description is somewhat faint. I'll list all symptoms
that may or may not be related to my problem, please tell me how I can
provide you with further informations on what the problem could be - or
if a symptom is not caused by my root problem, that is:

3D-Accelleration of my NVidia card doesn't seem to work properly.

I have a Geforce 6600, and ever since I've used the hardware driver
offered by Ubuntu, I have this problem. Currently I'm using Lucid. I've
never used anything else than the Gnome Desktop

  Symptoms are:
  1) Applications like the screensaver Hyperspace, Stellarium or Google
Earth rarely have frame rates that I can work with. Sometimes everything is
ok, but mostly they run at less than 0.5 fps
  2) Some Applications - so far Gimp and pgAdmin3 - sometimes crash the
desktop effects. That is, exiting Gimp or use of pgAdmin disables desktop
effects (like the wobbling windows) and ALL programs get relocated to the
first virtual desktop

Any help or hint is highly appreciated, thanks in advance :-)

[Bug 573296] Re: Graphic acceleration sometimes not working

2010-05-09 Thread Tiefflieger
Hi Bryce,

just before sending the above report, screen saver Hyperspace was
active, having far less than 1 fps. After moving the mouse and pushing a
key on the keyboard, it took ~ 30 seconds to actually exit the screen
saver. Right after that, I issued the command You told me.

There's still the other thing, that some programs crash the desktop-
effects. But as I'm not certain whether or not it is relied to this bug
or if it's a good idea running this apport command twice, I will not do
so.

I'm really glad and thankfull that someone takes care of my problems -
even though it's just a automatic response so far ;-) .

I consider myself as a quite experienced linux user, and I'd be happy to
provide any more infos for pinpointing the root of my problems.

The real bad thing is that I can't reproduce it on purpose. Eg. Google
Earth: Most times when I start up Google Earth, it has less than 1 fps.
But quitting and relaunching it several times (without doing anything
else) sometimes helps and it would act normally.

that may or may not be related to my problem, please tell me how I can
provide you with further informations on what the problem could be - or
if a symptom is not caused by my root problem, that is:

3D-Accelleration of my NVidia card doesn't seem to work properly.

I have a Geforce 6600, and ever since I've used the hardware driver
offered by Ubuntu, I have this problem. Currently I'm using Lucid. I've
never used anything else than the Gnome Desktop

Symptoms are:
1) Applications like the screensaver Hyperspace, Stellarium or Google
Earth rarely have frame rates that I can work with. Sometimes everything is
ok, but mostly they run at less than 0.5 fps
2) Some Applications - so far Gimp and pgAdmin3 - sometimes crash the desktop
effects. That is, exiting Gimp or use of pgAdmin disables desktop effects
(like the wobbling windows) and ALL programs get relocated to the first virtual
desktop

Any help or hint is highly appreciated, thanks in advance :-)

[Bug 565939] [NEW] Autohide of bottom bar after changing desktop doesn't work

2010-04-18 Thread Tiefflieger
Public bug reported:

Appeared on Lucid Lynx Beta 2

I enabled on both top and bottom panel bars of gnome desktop the autohide
function.
If I click on the bottom bar to switch to another desktop and leave the bar
with the mouse arrow, the bottom bar does not hide automatically.

To make the bottom bar hide again, I need to move the mouse over the
bottom bar and leave it again.

(If it was JavaScript, I'd guess it's missing the MouseOut event of
the buttom bar)

[Bug 355636] Re: Mahjongg: Wrong behaviour of buttons Pause and Resume

2010-04-17 Thread Tiefflieger
Not quite :-)
When You launch Mahjongg and start Your first game by deleting the first pair
of stones, both buttons Pause Game and Resume Game are visible and active.

If You click Resume Game, the game gets paused and the buttons behave
/ appear as they should, even if You start a new game (without exiting
and re-launching the game).

[Bug 474623] Re: Warnings when starting sudo nautilus in bash

2009-11-04 Thread Tiefflieger
Actually I needed Nautilus with root rights, as SBackup stores its backup
files with read permissions for root only.
(eg. I couldn't even read the size of the backed up directories)
Should I file a bug against sbackup instead or did I do something else wrong?

[Bug 462845] Re: Syncing Evolution contacts doesn't work

2009-10-29 Thread Tiefflieger
Hurray, after today's update syncing of contact works :-)

And to the other problem:
I tried your solution, first the error reoccured, but as the output was more
than the console puffer could store, I tried it again, but with
/usr/lib/evolution/evolution-data-server-2.28 out

to pipe the output into that file. Needless to say: This time it worked
without any problems, this contact was added successfully to chouch db

Anyway, thank You very much for your help :-)

[Bug 462845] [NEW] Syncing Evolution contacts doesn't work

2009-10-28 Thread Tiefflieger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

I followed these instructions:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOne/Tutorials/Contacts
But the contacts would not be synced to my ubuntu one account. Although I
copied the contacts to the couch-db addressbook in Evolution, they don't show
up at https://one.ubuntu.com/contacts/

I don't know if its of any matter to this report, but I couldn't copy a certain
contact, the error in the attachment shows up. It says

Another error

Having this issue at Karmic (having just upgraded), too

I got this message:
usplash: Setting mode 1152 x 864 failed
usplash: Using mode 1024 x 768

and resolved it by editing /etc/usplash.conf by changing its content to
xres=1024
yres=768

and afterwards executed

sudo update-initramfs -u

At the next restart everything was just fine ;-)

[Bug 400867] [NEW] Exiting Gimp results in crashing window manager

2009-07-17 Thread Tiefflieger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Happens when I open
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ac/Stofferenblik.jpg (so
far any other jpg/ image?), crop the image to selection, close the image
without saving and exit gimp. The window manager (not sure about that
term) seems to crash - _every_ window gets relocated to the first
virtual desktop, desktop effects no longer work (eg the wobbling
windows, or the cube-effect when switching between desktops).

gdb log shows nothing unusual, gimp-dbg package installed, nevertheless I will
add that log to this bug.
When I try to record this with xvid-cap, the crash does not happen. I will add
this screencast to this bug, there's nothing unusual though. But it shows
exactly which steps I make to reproduce the error (if xvid-cap was not running)

I have a Geforce 6600, using nvidia driver v180 installed via ubuntu, no manual
installed driver.
Ubuntu Jaunty 64bit, doing daily upgrades.

[Bug 380386] Re: Mahjongg: Unsolvable status of puzzle no longer recognized?

2009-06-02 Thread Tiefflieger
Thanks for your response.

Yes, this is reproducible, so far this only occured at puzzles called
the ziggurat. You just need to solve some of these puzzles until you
reach a status similar to the screencast.

If mahjongg is supposed to recognize an unsolvable status, it may have
something to do with the fact that the stones in the screencast are not
at the bottom, but on a higher layer, forming some kind of bridge, see
attachment.

[Bug 357707] [NEW] Rendering of page with SVG almost unusable slow

2009-04-08 Thread Tiefflieger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

To reproduce, put the following two files in a directory and open slow.htm with
FF.
The page contains two difs - one is fixed in the background, containing a
simple svg image that uses feTurbulence
The other dif is a table in the foreground.
When I try to scroll, CPU usage raises for some seconds at 100%. As the svg
image is fixed and the table is the only thing that needs to be scrolled, this
looks like bug to me.

** Affects: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
