Re: [Bug 417757] Re: [karmic regression] all network apps / browsers suffer from multi-second delays by default due to IPv6 DNS lookups
]] Matt Giuca Hi, | I understand that this is pretty much a bug in the *routers*, not in | Ubuntu. The reason it's reported here on Launchpad and not in a thousand | routers is because you're planning to implement a workaround in Ubuntu, | right? Yes (to both questions). | What you are saying is, if I switch to another DNS server, then it *may | not* be the same bug, but it *might* be (if my router is ignoring IPv6 | DNS requests, but the other DNS server is good). But it could be other | problems with my router's DNS server besides IPv6. If it works fine with Karmic and works fine with Lucid with IPv6 disabled, but is slow at resolving DNS with IPv6 enabled, that is this bug. If it's slow with IPv6 disabled, that's really interesting as well. | But if I disable IPv6 entirely, and the bug does not go away, then it is | not this bug. (I haven't been able to disable IPv6 yet). In grub, add «ipv6.disable=1» after the line with loads the kernel (this one presumably ends with «quiet splash»). Can you include the output of running «ip a» in your reply as well? * J. Javier Maestro | Perhaps a possible course of action is to offer several dovecot-auth | packages, with a default dovecot-auth-filesystem or whatever that uses | the basic password auth, and then other dovecot- | auth-{pgsql,mysql,ldap,...}. Then, there would be dovecot-auth-full for | those who need several of those installed at the same time. In order to save about 3MB of disk space? I don't see any point in the maintenance overhead. | I see it kind-of-like the apache2-mpm-worker and apache2-mpm-prefork, | when one is installed, it uninstalls the other, etc. I don't know if | this kind of packages are common, but I know that I would love to have | them without having to manually recompile the src. -mpm-worker and -mpm-prefork are not possible to combine into one package in any sane way and have very different performance and feature characteristics, so the comparison doesn't hold. In general, the policy is for packages to be compiled with all features enabled rather than being able to turn features on and off. The one big exception to this is X support where quite a few packages exists both with and without X support. -- Tollef Fog Heen UNIX is user friendly, it's just picky about who its friends are -- Forced mysql (and other) dependencies in dovecot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/184364 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The last suggestion from David in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=431883#60 seems fine to me. Ideally, I'd like the wording to be even clearer than it is that dcraw is under the GPLv2 or later (or at the distributor's option, a list of other licences). I'm also naively assuming that the licence here is for dcraw as a whole, not particular to single source files. Re: [Bug 20999] Re: Upgrades fail with a message about Old queue files present
* Tomi Junnila | Note that if MailMan fails the upgrade (so that it can be retried), this | will fail upgrading from edgy to feisty. Yes. | The presence of shunted messages should not fail the upgrade, a better | option would be to hold until the user can manually handle the | situation, then continue directly. That is not possible to do based on how dpkg works. The reason for failing is you can then fix the problem by unshunting or deleting the messages.
