Looks like the bug I just added at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1932360 is a
duplicate of this which I didn't find in any searches before I added it.

[Bug 1932360] [NEW] IR receiver broken by 5.8.0-55, worked in -48

2021-06-17 Thread Tom Horsley
Public bug reported:

On intel nuc used as media server running ubuntu 20.04, the IR remote
broke in kernel 5.8.0-55. Running ir-keytable -t shows that a single IR
button press spews key down codes forever, and never does a key up.
Going back to kernel 5.8.0-48 makes the remote work properly again.
Here's a sample of the working output:

[Bug 1909134] Re: pronterface fails when talking to network printer

2020-12-24 Thread Tom Horsley
I downloaded the printrun main branch from github, and running it
directly out of the download directory, it works fine, so this really is
fixed upstream.

[Bug 1909134] [NEW] pronterface fails when talking to network printer

2020-12-23 Thread Tom Horsley
Public bug reported:

This is the same bug as reported on github for printrun:

https://github.com/kliment/Printrun/issues/1027

The fix for this was merged into the github source.

It would sure be convenient if the official ubuntu repo version included
this fix.

[Bug 1851383] Re: disk format hang during install of 19.10 in KVM virtual machine

2019-11-06 Thread Tom Horsley
Don't know what I managed to screw up in the previous experiment, but I
just tried again and I can install a working virtual machine by first
formatting the virtual disk, then telling the installer to use the
partition without reformatting. I used the system rescue CD iso and
gparted this time rather than gnome-disks, maybe it likes gparted
created partitions better.

[Bug 1851383] Re: disk format hang during install of 19.10 in KVM virtual machine

2019-11-05 Thread Tom Horsley
Just tried a new experiment: I attached the new qcow2 image to a
different virtual machine, used gnome-disks to create a MSDOS partition
table, one large ext4 partition and a small swap area, then detached the
image from that VM and used it for the install of the new ubuntu 19.10
virtual machine. I selected custom disk configuration and just told it
to install on the existing ext4 partition, mounting it as /. It appeared
to install correctly (with one mysterious error about not being able to
restore previously installed apps).

It is however, now taking forever to boot from the virtual disk. I just
get animated dots under the word "ubuntu". If I hit ESC it appears to
have advanced one or two steps each time, but it is almost like it will
only advance the boot if I keep hitting ESC over and over. Or perhaps it
is in a loop desperately trying to start GDM over and over on a virtual
display which probably doesn't support wayland.

[Bug 1851383] [NEW] disk format hang during install of 19.10 in KVM virtual machine

2019-11-05 Thread Tom Horsley
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to install a KVM virtual machine using the ubuntu 19.10 live
iso. It always gets as far as the step where it is going to format the
blank disk (in this case a newly created qcow2 image with a 20G size
limit). I then see the virtual machine go to 100% cpu usage and the
installer goes completely unresponsive.

I've tried this on a centos 7 host and a fedora 31 host with the same
result on both.

I've tried telling it to let me customise the partitions and letting it
automatically create partitions with the same result - 100% cpu loop and
hung unresponsive interface (sometimes a black screen, sometimes the
partition tool, but not responding).

The specific iso file is ubuntu-19.10-desktop-amd64.iso. I've checked
the checksums and verified the signature, so it doesn't seem to be
corrupted.

[Bug 1343003] [NEW] Text scaling 1 truncates labels in system settings app

2014-07-16 Thread Tom Horsley
Public bug reported:

I have a UHD monitor, and I used the Display setting to bump text
scaling up to 1.5.

The top level system settings app with icons for all the individual
settings now uses the new text size, but truncates all the labels
because it refuses to resize. In fact, it won't let me grab a corner and
manually resize.

This is on a new install of 14.04 with all updates applied.

[Bug 385539] Re: [karmic] When running compiz, wallpaper is not displayed

2009-10-31 Thread Tom Horsley
I also see this problem with my radeon 9200, as well as other minor rendering
problems even with compiz turned off.
For instance, if I run synaptic, click on a package to install, I get the popup
menu of install options. The icons that normally
show up in front of each menu item aren't there. This was a fresh install from
the alternate text installer CD (i386), so
there won't be any leftover files, everything is brand new.

Here's the lspci info:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200]
(rev 01)
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200]
(Secondary) (rev 01)

(I don't have the secondary controller hooked to anything, just using
VGA).

[Bug 227558] [NEW] horrible X rendering with radeon 7200 card

2008-05-06 Thread Tom Horsley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

My display looks like it is being rendered in 4 bit (or maybe even 3 bit) color
with the
radeon driver. With the vesa driver it looks fine.

This seems very likely to be an upstream problem, so details can be
found over here:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15846

This is a new install of

Description:Ubuntu 8.04
Release:8.04

The installed radeon driver that demonstrates the problem is:

xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.8.0-1
