[Bug 1742671] Re: SNMPD hangs when a client browses a restricted OID

2018-01-15 Thread Tom Smith
Yes, this does seem to be the same issue as
https://sourceforge.net/p/net-snmp/mailman/message/35379818/
Sorry for opening a duplicate.

As for explaining my config, "limited_vw" is purely my name, it just
needs to match what is defined for the user and group, hence why this is
the only search engine result. I suspect that almost nobody has ever
used VACM which is why this bug has gone unnoticed for so long.

[Bug 1742671] [NEW] SNMPD hangs when a client browses a restricted OID

2018-01-11 Thread Tom Smith
Public bug reported:

Overview:
When snmpd is configured to show a limited view of oids using VACM, it is
possible to cause snmpd to hang by performing an snmpwalk.

Tested on 5.7.2~dfsg-8.1ubuntu3.2 on Mint 17.1 (aka Ubuntu 14.04) and
5.7.3+dfsg-1ubuntu4 on Ubuntu 16.04.3

Steps to reproduce:
Use VACM to restrict the OIDs that a user has access to as follows: (I'll
attach a full snmpd.conf below)
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.1
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.2
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.4.31

Perform an snmpwalk NOT using bulk walk

Expected result; A listing of the contents of those three OID trees

Actual result; snmpwalk will list all the OIDs up to
iso.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.22 and then hang.

All subsequent attempts to query any SNMP will time out. SNMPD has to be
restarted before it will respond again. There doesn't seem to be
anything useful in the logs.

Mitigation:
If the user is also allowed to browse two more OIDs the problem goes away:
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.1
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.2
# Necessary OIDs
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.4.1
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.4.25
#
view limited_vw included .1.3.6.1.2.1.4.31

Or, only query the host using snmpbulkwalk.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: "Example config that will trigger the bug"

[Bug 1531861] Re: System crash on installation of GRUB2-SIGNED package

2018-01-04 Thread Tom Smith
On three Shuttle XS35 V5pro machines (Intel Celeron N3050), running Mint Mate
17.1 during an 'apt upgrade' similar symptoms as above (system slowed down,
mouse pointer stopped working).
(These systems are all remote, so I'm going by second-hand accounts).
Machine then rebooted/crashed, and would then only boot to GRUB. (This may be
because the machines use LUKS to encrypt the drive).

I have one of the affected machines back, and can access the drive
(although not boot it), so if there's any logs you'd like then let me
know.

Is this related in any way to bug 1521134?
1521134 is marked fixed in 3.17.4 so I will test and see.

[Bug 1322431] Re: libsnmp-dev: Cannot create snmpv3 user with net-snmp-config command

2016-04-18 Thread Tom Smith
I can confirm that with a fresh install of 14.04.4 using
5.7.2~dfsg-8.1ubuntu3.1 I can reproduce this bug.
Installing the updated version (5.7.2~dfsg-8.1ubuntu3.2) from proposed does fix
this bug, and I can create my SNMP user.

[Bug 692568] Re: Printer shouldn't be paused after hp CUPS backend failed

2015-03-19 Thread Tom Smith
We're still experiencing the same bug on multiple computers running 10.04 with
HPLIP versions from 3.13.10 up to 3.14.10. Affected printers have been:
M1536dnf, HP M125nw and the M1212nf.
The only workaround I've found so far that's susceptible for our end users who
don't have admin rights is to run cupsenable $PRINTERNAME every few minutes
via crontab. A real solution would be very useful.
(beh does not help us as we need the scanning capability of the hplip drivers).
I can provide more information if required.

[Bug 1047794] [NEW] 'Failed to load session xmonad' error after selecting GNOME with Xmonad option in lightdm on Quantel beta

2012-09-08 Thread Tom Smith
Public bug reported:

Note: this is similar to bug #1047785 and might/probably be the same
underlying issue, but is arrived at in a different way and results in a
different error

On a fairly virgin install of the Quantel beta:

$ sudo apt-get install xmonad
reboot
select GNOME with Xmonad from lightdm
attempt to login

the screen redraws, sometimes to a blank screen, sometimes to the
lightdm screen.

the error 'Failed to load session xmonad' is displayed on a popup.

pressing OK on the popup takes me back to lightdm.

[Bug 1047851] [NEW] Temporary graphics glitch on login on Mobility Radeon HD 5470

2012-09-08 Thread Tom Smith
Public bug reported:

On a brand new install of the 12.10 beta on an Acer Aspire 7741G (model
MS2309) with ATI Mobility Radeon 5470.

Install Ubuntu 12.10 beta
Login

The graphics will glitch and then pause for a couple of seconds, before
logging you in and all being fine.

This bug does not seem to cause any other issue other than being pretty
ugly during login.

The bug also occurs on an Acer Aspire 5551-A (model NEW75) with ATI
Mobility Radeon HD 4250.

Not sure what more information I can provide to help with this bug.

[Bug 1047863] [NEW] Removing install media at the last step of install is bad

2012-09-08 Thread Tom Smith
Public bug reported:

Install the Quantal beta from a USB key
The last step is a popup window prompting you to reboot
Pull out the USB key

The popup window will dissapear leaving just the background image

At this point the machine is pretty much unusable.

Going out to a console results in a stream of errors about SQUASHFS:

SQUASHFS error: Unable to read data cache entry [3be4a4f]
SQUASHFS error: Unable to read page, block 3be4a4f, size 7bbc

I would expect to be told not to remove the install media at this point
if bad things will happen, or for bad things not to happen if I do.

Either way, I would expect to be given the chance or be prompted to
remove the install media before reboot, so as not to boot straight back
into the installer following the reboot.

[Bug 1047785] Re: default xmonad install crashes when first logging in via lightdm in quantel

2012-09-08 Thread Tom Smith
Ok, tried on a fresh laptop and it worked this time.

Installed 12-10 using the previously mentioned live CD
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade
$ sudo apt-get install xmonad

reboot
selected XMonad in lightdm
logged in
went to blank screen, at which point xmonad was working fine.

original bug i think was simply a graphics glitch that looked like it
was not working, but in fact was.

[Bug 1047894] [NEW] Bluetile is not launched correctly when using the GNOME + Bluetile lightdm option

2012-09-08 Thread Tom Smith
Public bug reported:

On a fresh 12.10 install

$ sudo apt-get install bluetile
reboot
select GNOME + Bluetile in lightdm
login

The system goes into an odd state.

It only displays the default ubuntu background image. No icons or menus.

Some Gnome keyboard shortcuts work, e.g. Ctrl+Alt+t to launch a
terminal.

When the terminal is launched, it has no window chrome. Just the window
contents and menu bar.

From the launched terminal:

$ bluetile

Bluetile now launches fully and offers full functionality.

[Bug 872157] Re: Focus new split window/area with Follow mouse pointer mouse focus setting

2012-09-07 Thread Tom Smith
Just to confirm this issue still exists.

As @cmsj mentions, can confirm that the new terminal is given focus if
the mouse happens to be hovering over where the new terminal is created.

I'd expect the current behaviour to be the correct behaviour. Consider
the following:

1. split window
2. new terminal is highlighted regardless of where the mouse is positioned
3. you accidnently nudge the mouse whilst typing into the new terminal

Should the mouse now pop out of the new terminal to a different one? For
me, being explicit and having the focus always being where the mouse
currently is to be the prefered option.

[Bug 1047455] [NEW] Hide/show window functionality with multiple windows acts strangely

2012-09-07 Thread Tom Smith
Public bug reported:

Close all terminator windows
Open 2 terminator windows (seperate processe, i.e. not using Ctrl-Shift-i)
Pressing hide/show shortcut key hides/shows the first terminator window. It
ignores the 2nd window.
Close the first window
Enter the 2nd window
Pressing hide/show shortcut key will now just print a tilde (~) symbol and will
not toggle the window's visibility.

Sympy, you're right! It *seems* to be fixed in linux-

proposed updates). what's the safest way to remove this?

also, should I keep updating proposed updates in the Update Manager?

[Bug 186382] Re: [nvidia 169.xx] gtk window decorator somtimes draws decoration ugly or not at all

2008-05-14 Thread Tom Smith
Thanks Sympy. That worked. However when I followed the instructions to
re-download the drivers, etc. from the propsed repositories, it did not
seem to work. I'm still getting the annoying pink clear titlebars. Any
suggestions?

hmmm I just noticed when I hit ESC at Grub there's now 2 different
kernel versions...why would this be? Basically what I did was install
updates after I enabled the proposed repositories

[Bug 186382] Re: [nvidia 169.xx] gtk window decorator somtimes draws decoration ugly or not at all

2008-05-12 Thread Tom Smith
I tried using the following command:

sudo ln -sf /usr/lib/nvidia/libwfb.so.xserver-xorg-core
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/libwfb.so

and it did not work.

I then tried a sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-core

and it gave me this:

xserver-xorg-core is already the newest version.

can someone guide me through this process? this bug is very annoying. thanks!

[Bug 188380] Re: [Hardy] Eclipse applications show error Could not initialize the application's security component

2008-05-08 Thread Tom Smith
I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) and just installed Eclipse 3.3.
I've gotten this message while using eclipse twice so far today. I
tried the workaround by creating the eclipse directory, but it's still
appearing. Here's what I did:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ mkdir /home/thomass/.mozilla/eclipse

the directory eclipse is now found under /home/thomass/.mozilla.

Is there something else I should be doing? Why am I still getting this
error, even after creating the directory? Thank you.
