[Bug 1615734] Re: Multiple monitors broken

2019-08-22 Thread TomasHnyk
Hm, I am on 18.04 on Thinkpad 530 and Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with three
monitors and I have a very mild version of this problem. Only after
suspend, the two monitors that are connected via the dock flicker
(either show screen corruption or repeatedly blank in and blank out).
The one connected to laptop's miniDP port works fine.

However, I only need to issue xset dpms force standby to make them turn
off and then move a mouse to make them turn on again. Another
alternative is pressing alt+ctrl+F6 to go to tty6 and then alt+ctrl+F7
to go back to graphical interface. Still inconvenient though.

[Bug 903997] Re: Held jobs should release automatically if selected printer is connected after attempting to print from an application

2018-10-02 Thread TomasHnyk
Hello,
well, it is fixed and it is not fixed. When I plug in the printer (or turn it
on when it is connected via wifi), it gets printed after five minutes (I
think). So it seems the printer queue checkes every five minutes if a printer
is available and then prints held jobs. I do not see why it is not immediate.

[Bug 653483] Re: Renaming a file with a already existing filename in current folder fails

2018-06-08 Thread TomasHnyk
Well, I still think the current implementation is not good (it still
forces the user to rename the original file manually), but I moved to
Nemo after upgrading to 18.04, I do not like the direction of Nautilus
development.

[Bug 455241] Re: New windows steal focus

2015-10-13 Thread TomasHnyk
Yes, Unity on 15.04. I do not have priviledges to revert a wont fix,
somebody else have to do that.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a lightweight application like gedit.
2. Open an application that starts for a long time (GnuCash on my computer with
7 years of accouting) - may be different on your macihne
3. Before the application from step 2 initializes, switch to application from
step 1 and start using it (i.e. typing in gedit)

What happens:
When the application from step 2 opens, it steals focus, goes to the forground
and starts receiving input that up to that point was receiving application from
step 3

What should happen:
The application from step 2 should open in the background and set its status to
alert (that blue triangle in the launcher in Unity).

[Bug 1449905] Re: Add Fraunhofer FDK AAC support to ffmpeg package

2015-05-14 Thread TomasHnyk
It is inferior in that the ffmpeg people say it is inferior
(https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Encode/AAC ) and one assumes they know
what they are talking about.

However, I do not understand. The code is in a separate package in
multiverse, as it is non-free, but why ffmpeg cannot be compiled with
its support? This non-free code would not be included in the ffmpeg
binary and I assume the bindings in the binary are free. How is this
different from proprietary modules in the kernel, for example?

There was an old bug that I just made a duplicate of this one (for those

Thanks for fixing this. However, this only escalates bug 1453757 (even
though I am not sure if that is not a regression - I think id did not
use to happen on 14.04).

[Bug 1453757] [NEW] Using grid loses focus when focus follows mouse is enabled

2015-05-11 Thread TomasHnyk
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:
1. Disable click to focus in ccsm
2. open any window, let's say nautilus and move it to the left half of the
screen (so that your mouse cursor is there)
3. Use ctr+super+right to move that window to the right and semi-maximize it

What happens:
1. That window loses focus

What should happen:
1. The window should stay focus until cursor is moved.

I think this used not to happen on 14.04 (I am on 15.04, reproduced with
guest account).

[Bug 1453083] [NEW] Shutdown output with plymouth disabled is ugly (misses newlines)

2015-05-08 Thread TomasHnyk
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:
1. Disable plymouth (by setting GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= in
/etc/default/grub and running sudo update-grub)
2. Restart or shut down
3. Watch the mess that gets displayed see screenshot)

My guess is that some newlines are missing in the output.
This is on current 15.04, booting using systemd. Of course, it only takes two
to three seconds to shut down and this is the non-default option, but still, it
would be nice if the output were nice.

I am working a lot with videos using a gstreamer based subtitle editor
called subtitleeditor (compiled from upstream, ubuntu's version is
horribly outdated) and it can play the videos, but with terrible
performace (lots of stuttering, sometimes it skips 30 frames or even
more before continuing to play). Removing gstreamer-vaapi solves it too.

It works on 14.04 - I have not seen this bug in a long time, I think
over a year, so no need for a SRU I think.

[Bug 1295908] Re: Sometimes applications stop showing up in the Dash

2014-12-11 Thread TomasHnyk
Possible duplicate is also bug # 1239031 , but I am not sure.

** Description changed:

- Sometimes when I use Unity, and I search for an application in the Dash the
results just shows Files and Folders; no applications.
- I don't know how to reproduce this bug.
- I'm using the stock Unity Packages in Ubuntu 13.10.
+ Steps to reproduce:
+ 1. Open Dash
+ 2. Type a name of an application installed on your system, like calculator
+ 3. press escape
+
+ What happens: Application scope stops giving results
+
+ What should happen: Application scope should still give results
+
+ How to fix it once it happen:
+ A)type something and either hit escape or delete what you have typed.
+ B)Check application in filters in the Dash (it gets unchecked)
+
+ From the comments, it seems this might have something to do with people
+ having online searches disabled.

there a rule saying only original reporter can respond to bugs?

[Bug 800064] Re: touchpad rotation when monitor rotated

2014-10-01 Thread TomasHnyk
Christopher: what don't you understand about this bug not being hardware
specific? This is a wishlist item, because the code needed to solve this
(automatic rotation of touchpad when laptop is rotated in the physical
world) is just not present in xorg? Nobody in Ubuntu is going to solve
this, this is an upstream bug and upstream is not keen to implement this
as far as I know so I guess it will go unfixed until xorg is obsolete,
but why don't we just set it to confirmed, set importance to wishlist
and let it be?

[Bug 1362368] Re: Enable compilation of Unity messaging menu integration

2014-09-02 Thread TomasHnyk
Well, I tried to include changelog but apparently I run dch -i at the
wrong moment. Anyway, it should be fixed now.

As for notify.so, it is provided by pidgin_2.10.9-0ubuntu6_amd64.deb:
$ apt-file search /usr/lib/pidgin/notify.so
pidgin: /usr/lib/pidgin/notify.so
pidgin-dbg: /usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/pidgin/notify.so

Also, it was there originally, I did not touch that line. True, it was
meant to be turned on by default but it was not (that is what the line
pref name='loaded' type='pathlist' does). It provides notifications
about new messages, I think, quite a sensible thing to have turned on by
default.

** Patch added: Include changelog
