[Bug 2069092] [NEW] whole system hangs
Public bug reported: Under "tested" nvidia driver it hangs, when i compiled manually on 23.10 version which is far before newer i never had hard crash. But it was pissing me off since every kernel update had to recompile driver again. Secondly, on 23.10 i was staying on wayland, now on X11. Not sure what is causing hard crash. Totally dead, before it happens i have slown down for about 1,2 seconds, then dead, no ctrl+alt+f2345 works, only power ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 24.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+23ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.8.0-35.35-generic 6.8.4 Uname: Linux 6.8.0-35-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.capabilities.gpu0: Error: path was not a regular file. .proc.driver.nvidia.capabilities.mig: Error: path was not a regular file. .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus..01.00.0: Error: path was not a regular file. .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: "" .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend: suspend hibernate resume .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend_depth: default modeset uvm .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 535.171.04 Tue Mar 19 20:30:00 UTC 2024 GCC version: ApportVersion: 2.28.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CasperMD5CheckResult: unknown CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Tue Jun 11 21:52:14 2024 DistUpgraded: 2024-05-23 01:17:19,732 DEBUG migrateToDeb822Sources() DistroCodename: noble DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GpuHangFrequency: Several times a week GpuHangReproducibility: Seems to happen randomly GpuHangStarted: Since before I upgraded GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation GA107M [GeForce RTX 3050 Mobile] [10de:25a2] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: CLEVO/KAPOK Computer GA107M [GeForce RTX 3050 Mobile] [1558:5e00] Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [Bug 1947024] [NEW] Package information is not updated during installation process
Public bug reported: After the installation, the system is not aware of available software. In effect, no package can be installed or updated, and no bug can be reported as no package is recognized by ubuntu-bug as an official Ubuntu package until user manually runs "apt update". Due to the latter effect, the bug report was not filed as the issue was occurring, but after "apt update". Hardware: Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR (Intel N3060 1.60 GHz, 2 GiB RAM, N3060 integrated graphics) Setup: Secure Boot, Boot Mode: UEFI, UEFI first Steps to reproduce: 1. Use "Disks"/Restore Disk Image to prepare Lubuntu Impish Daily installation Medium 2. Boot the live session from the installation medium 3. Connect to internet over wi-fi 4. Launch installation process a) language: American English b) timezone: Warsaw c) Erase disk, swap to file, encrypt system d) Log in automatically 5. Finish the installation process 6. Reboot to the installed system 7. Open a terminal 8. Run 'ubuntu-bug qterminal' 9. Pay attention to the command output 10. Open Muon 11. Attempt to install new software Expected result: pt. 9: user is able to report a bug for qterminal pt. 11: user is able to install new software from the default repositories Actual result: pt. 9: error message: "The problem cannot be reported: This does not seem to be an official Ubuntu package" pt. 11: Muon only lists installed software, despite the fact that software sources are enabled (attaching screenshots) Reproduction rate: 5/5. Please note that the issue has been encountered on 3 different daily builds since 27 September 2021, but couldn't be reported earlier due to time constraints. The ISO's checksums have been confirmed before installation. [Bug 1945374] [NEW] QtPass configuration windows do not show in Task Manager on LXQt Panel
Public bug reported: The configuration windows of QtPass do not show on their own in the Task Manager. This is especially troubling during the first setup, as there is no main window of QtPass open. In effect, QtPass does not show at all in the Task Manager during the first setup. A minimized configuration window can still be restored using Alt-Tab. The issue still occurs for configuration window/dialog opened from the main program window, but the impact in this case is much smaller, as the configuration minimizes and restores together with the main program window. Steps to reproduce: 1. Launch Lubuntu 21.10 in live session/on a fresh install 2. Launch QtPass 3. Pay attention to the Task Manager section of the Panel Result: Task Manager is empty Expected result: QtPass configuration windows show up on the Panel Reproduction rate: 5/5 Hardware: Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR (Intel N3060 1.60 GHz, 2 GiB RAM, N3060 integrated graphics) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 21.10 Package: qtpass 1.3.2-3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.13.0-16.16-generic 5.13.13 Uname: Linux 5.13.0-16-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu69 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CasperVersion: 1.465 CurrentDesktop: LXQt Date: Tue Sep 28 20:41:21 2021 LiveMediaBuild: Lubuntu 21.10 "Impish Indri" - Beta amd64 (20210927) SourcePackage: qtpass UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: qtpass (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug impish ** Attachment added: "screen1.jpg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945374/+attachment/5528791/+files/screen1.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945374 Title: QtPass configuration windows do not show in Task Manager on LXQt Panel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtpass/+bug/1945374/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1914239] [NEW] ubuntu-20.04 pip3 ignores /etc/pip.conf
Public bug reported: The pip3-20.0.2 from python3-pip package, and also installed with "python3 -m venv" (ensurepip module), ignores /etc/pip.conf. Based on https://pip.pypa.io/en/stable/user_guide/#config-file the /etc/pip.conf should work. Also it does work properly if original pip-20.0.2 is reinstalled to a venv from PyPI. Steps to reproduce: 1. Add special package index URL to /etc/pip.conf, for example [global] index-url = https://download.zope.org/ppix 2. Try to install a package from your special index Expected result: * Packages from your index are available. Current result: * Only PyPI packaged are available. We are trying to use this functionality to provide a local cache of PyPI using Artifactory - to speed-up creating virtual environments inside short-lived Docker and lessen PyPI bandwidth. We are working around this by copying the file to ~/.config/pip/pip.conf, but we'd like to make it work system-wide. vagrant@ubuntu-focal:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS Release:20.04 vagrant@ubuntu-focal:~$ apt-cache policy python3-pip python3-pip: Installed: 20.0.2-5ubuntu1.1 Candidate: 20.0.2-5ubuntu1.1 Version table: *** 20.0.2-5ubuntu1.1 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 20.0.2-5ubuntu1 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/universe amd64 Packages ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: python3-pip 20.0.2-5ubuntu1.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-65.73-generic 5.4.78 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-65-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.14 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip Date: Tue Feb 2 12:32:07 2021 PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: python-pip UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: python-pip (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug focal uec-images -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914239 Title: ubuntu-20.04 pip3 ignores /etc/pip.conf To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-pip/+bug/1914239/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1841767] Re: 19.04 OpenVPN plug-in not installed
** Description changed: On latest Kubuntu 19.10 build (dated 26/08/19), when adding new OpenVPN connections (from config files) in System Settings > Connections, am then unable to connect to these due to error 'Missing VPN Plugin' when trying to connect. This definitely does not happen on Kubuntu 19.04. So it is a new issue on this 19.10 build. Manually installing the network-manager-ovpn package via CLI resolved the issue but this should not be necessary. the system should not present in-operable options to the user and then throw difficult and un- freidnly error messages. This feels like a bug/design fedect/oversight in this build. Also raised as bug with KDE (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=411321) but they have closed this as 'not a bug'. Thanks. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open System Settings > Connections 2. Click the + sign to add a new connection 3. Scroll down to select last option "Import VPN connection 4. Import an OpenVPN config file 5. [Bug 1807076] Re: gnome-control-center doesn't start
I would not be worried about this message. I had issues to configure my email account correctly (access to Office365 via EWS) but eventually I succeeded to set it up. I created the new online account and I closed the control center. Then it worked in my Evolution client. Later the same day I tried to go to control center again to change other settings but I couldn't open it. I cannot reproduce it again. My best guess for the scenario is: 1. Configure new EWS account in control-center panel. 2. Close the panel. 3. Try to start it again. I cannot try it again as I have just one EWS-capable account. I don't want to delete it from the settings because it would probably delete my local mailbox and I would lose all my configuration. I don't think unsuccessful email configuration has anything to do with this problem because it cannot be saved until connection to mail server is established. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1807076 Title: gnome-control-center doesn't start To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1807076/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1805062] Re: FSCache kernel panic on presumed CIFS share disconnect
I'm yet to find a way to reliably reproduce this. Including apport report. Not much more information in there, as none was collected during the crash. ** Attachment added: "apport" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1805062/+attachment/5216640/+files/apport.linux.ut6j6uk2.apport -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1805062 Title: FSCache kernel panic on presumed CIFS share disconnect To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1805062/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1805062] [NEW] FSCache kernel panic on presumed CIFS share disconnect
Public bug reported: What Happened - I have a setup with my home NAS server mounted via CIFS to an Ubuntu 18.04 VPS over OpenVPN. The CIFS share is served by Nginx as an open file directory, with fscache/cachefilesd being used to cache the files locally, to reduce the load on my home connection. I was using this setup for web development by editing files directly on the CIFS share from another machine (mounted via LAN, independently of the OpenVPN server). After making changes to an HTML file, I noticed that the Nginx server was no longer responding. I connected to the server via SSH to diagnose the issue and found that trying to perform a file listing (using ls) on the fileshare mount froze my shell, so I opened another SSH connection. I ran dmesg, expecting to find a CIFS timeout error, but instead there was an fscache error trace. Thinking it would help resolve the issue, I ran `systemd restart cachefilesd` to restart cachefilesd. My SSH connection froze again, but this time the server was no longer responding to SSH connections and pings. I was forced to perform a hard reset to restore operation. Upon further inspection of the logs, I noticed that the NAS reconnected to the OpenVPN server between my first and second SSH connection, so it's possible that a network issue caused the initial fscache error. I have no way of confirming this, that's why I put "presumed" in the title. I suspect the issue here might be a race condition when invalidating a cache object (the updated HTML file) during a network issue. What I expected to happen - Accessing an updated file shouldn't cause an fscache error, even when a network error occurs. Restarting cachefilesd shouldn't cause a fatal panic, even when a network error occurs. [Bug 1796469] Re: aws s3 cp --recursive hangs on the last file on a large file transfer to instance
The problem affects also transfers from RDS instances - it prevents for example creating an export file using pg_dump from an RDS Postgres database. The problem seems to be caused by a sudden collapse of downloader TCP receive window to "1" (usually with scale 7, so 1*2^7=128 bytes) after transferring several tens of GB of data over a single connection. The TCP receive window never recovers. Analysis of a single stalled transfer from RDS PostgreSQL: tcpdump -nn -vvv -r pcap --dont-verify-checksums; done | xz -1 > pcap.txt.xz $ xzgrep wscale pcap.txt.xz 10.16.14.237.33578 > 10.16.10.102.5432: Flags [S], seq 3273208485, win 26883, options [mss 8961,sackOK,TS val 1284903196 ecr 0,nop,wscale 7], length 0 10.16.10.102.5432 > 10.16.14.237.33578: Flags [S.], seq 2908863056, ack 3273208486, win 28960, options [mss 1460,sackOK,TS val 120076048 ecr 1284903196,nop,wscale 10], length 0 So the window scale for this TCP connection is 7, so each "win N" values have to be multiplied by 2^7=128. The window size TCP parameter at the beginning of the file is for example 852, which means after scaling 852*2^7=109056 bytes $ xzgrep '10.16.14.237.33578' pcap.txt.xz | head -10 | tail -1 10.16.14.237.33578 > 10.16.10.102.5432: Flags [.], seq 2256009, ack 201198741, win 852, options [nop,nop,TS val 1284911021 ecr 120078004], length 0 But near the end of the file it is 1, which means after scaling 1*2^7=128 bytes: $ xzcat pcap.txt.xz | tail -1000 | grep '10.16.14.237.33578' | head -1 10.16.14.237.33578 > 10.16.10.102.5432: Flags [.], seq 2266022, ack 3742538664, win 1, options [nop,nop,TS val 1286238401 ecr 120409852], length 0 And indeed the RDS server is sending 128 bytes of data and waiting for confirmation before sending another 128: 13:47:27.170534 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 255, id 11479, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 180) 10.16.10.102.5432 > 10.16.14.237.33578: Flags [P.], seq 3742538664:3742538792, ack 2266022, win 174, options [nop,nop,TS val 120409903 ecr 1286238401], length 128 13:47:27.170542 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 28256, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 52) 10.16.14.237.33578 > 10.16.10.102.5432: Flags [.], seq 2266022, ack 3742538792, win 1, options [nop,nop,TS val 1286238605 ecr 120409903], length 0 13:47:27.374539 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 255, id 11480, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 180) 10.16.10.102.5432 > 10.16.14.237.33578: Flags [P.], seq 3742538792:3742538920, ack 2266022, win 174, options [nop,nop,TS val 120409954 ecr 1286238605], length 128 The switch from "win 600" (76800 bytes) to "win 1" (128 bytes) is sudden and I have no idea what could have caused it: 13:33:26.230782 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 24124, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 52) 10.16.14.237.33578 > 10.16.10.102.5432: Flags [.], seq 2266022, ack 3741933728, win 600, options [nop,nop,TS val 1285397677 ecr 120199669], length 0 13:33:26.230868 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 255, id 7295, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 4396) 10.16.10.102.5432 > 10.16.14.237.33578: Flags [.], seq 3741933728:3741938072, ack 2266022, win 174, options [nop,nop,TS val 120199669 ecr 1285397677], length 4344 13:33:26.230918 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 255, id 7298, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 43492) 10.16.10.102.5432 > 10.16.14.237.33578: Flags [.], seq 3741938072:3741981512, ack 2266022, win 174, options [nop,nop,TS val 120199669 ecr 1285397677], length 43440 13:33:26.230932 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 255, id 7328, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 13708) 10.16.10.102.5432 > 10.16.14.237.33578: Flags [P.], seq 3741981512:3741995168, ack 2266022, win 174, options [nop,nop,TS val 120199669 ecr 1285397677], length 13656 13:33:26.230948 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 255, id 7338, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 2948) 10.16.10.102.5432 > 10.16.14.237.33578: Flags [.], seq 3741995168:3741998064, ack 2266022, win 174, options [nop,nop,TS val 120199669 ecr 1285397677], length 2896 13:33:26.230969 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 255, id 7340, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 5348) 10.16.10.102.5432 > 10.16.14.237.33578: Flags [P.], seq 3741998064:3742003360, ack 2266022, win 174, options [nop,nop,TS val 120199669 ecr 1285397677], length 5296 13:33:26.231759 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 255, id 7344, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 4396) 10.16.10.102.5432 > 10.16.14.237.33578: Flags [.], seq 3742003360:3742007704, ack 2266022, win 174, options [nop,nop,TS val 120199669 ecr 1285397677], length 4344 13:33:26.231775 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 255, id 7347, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 2876) 10.16.10.102.5432 > 10.16.14.237.33578: Flags [.], seq 3742007704:3742010528, ack 2266022, win 174, options [nop,nop,TS val 120199669 ecr 1285397677], length 2824 13:33:26.233238 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 24125, offset 0, flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 52) 10.16.14.237.33578 > 10.16.10.102.5432: Flags [.], seq 2266022, ack 3742010528, win 1,
