[Bug 1076288] [NEW] Radeon driver starts freezing and dies
Public bug reported: Problem began playing a dvd with xbmc on dual screen setup. Everything was fine, until I moved the mouse trying to get to the playback controls. Then picture froze and after every few seconds the screens blinked off and back again, with some temporary graphical glitches. This persisted until I kill -9:ed xbmc, after which things seemed to normalize. Trying to open a new window caused the same blink again, but very slowly the terminal appeared. When the glitches didn't go away, I tried restarting lightdm, but it only managed to stop, not start again. However the console was still working. After a while, "start lightdm" did work again. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1076288 Title: Radeon driver starts freezing and dies To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1076288/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 894693] [NEW] Suggested package "firmware-linux" does not exist
Public bug reported: xserver-xorg-video-radeon suggests to install firmware-linux, which does not exist. Bug #565482 was marked not fix, because the suggestion already exists in Debian. However this is not a bug in there, since that package does indeed exist in Debian, but not in Ubuntu. The correct package in ubuntu is linux-firmware, which combines the debian packages firmware-linux-free and firmware-linux-nonfree (firmware-linux is a metapackage that pulls in both of the real packages). linux-firmware is crucial because without the radeon microcodes, using the radeon driver would be impossible (see http://wiki.x.org/wiki/radeonBuildHowTo#Missing_firmware). The problem hasn't manifested because many people have linux-firmware already installed due to other dependencies. However I do not believe that is a proper reason to leave the dependencies of this package broken in purpose, especially when this is trivial to fix. For example people running their own custom kernels wouldn't have the firmware package pulled in at all (and please don't go and say that only power users do that and power users don't matter). ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: maverick natty oneiric precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/894693 Title: Suggested package "firmware-linux" does not exist To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/894693/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 509180] Re: ecryptfs sometimes seems to add trailing garbage to encrypted files
I tried "cat /dev/zero > zerofile" since heavy writing / disk exhaustion seemed to be related to the problem. And sure enough, after the empty space went to zero, same errors appeared again to dmesg. After deleting the zerofile I logged out and tried to login, but it failed. Then I tried to shutdown cleanly, but it failed. After a hard reboot the disk space had been freed, and the .Private contained again zero length files. The perm trick reveals that zeroed files include gnome applet files and other stuff that logically could have been written into without user action. All of them are now completely unreadable due to input/output errors. I'd say that ecryptfs is still extremely dangerous to use due to data corruption problems in a common scenario, writing too much. Re: [Bug 810665] Re: marquee text in webpage makes commenting slow
Hi, thank you for replying, yes I tested today and didn't notice much of improvement with new profile, with no extensions. The thing is that browsing generally is annoyingly faster with Chrome and/or Windows 7 with Firefox. There seems to be this strange lag with FF and linux systems. Yes it could be related to spellchecker also but when I tested without it the difference wasn't noticible. But for example in this page: http://www.iltasanomat.fi/ .. the scrolling and commenting can be S-L-O-W. But not all the time, maybe it's related to some internal services in Ubuntu/linux that makes browsing crawl sometimes. In generally, this occasionally lag is quite annoying and affects the usability and preferring this system. [Bug 576744] Re: Unable to modify brightness when the screen is locked
I'm not what is required to raise the importance of the bug, but this is much more major usability problem than just "low". Given a non technical user, the screen is just black without any hints on what the user can do. This is equivalent to the system just plain crashing or freezing. A more clever user might attempt to write the password blindly, and even try pressing the caps lock if the first attempt doesn't work, but this is just unacceptable. It's even worse in natty, where the brightness goes to zero when removing the power cable, even if all relevant settings are disabled in power management GUI. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/576744 Title: Unable to modify brightness when the screen is locked -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Display is automatically detected and desktop extended every time I plug display in with DP cable and it doesn't need to be connected at boot. Ubuntu 10.10 2.6.35-22-generic x86_64 xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.12.0-1ubuntu5.1 So I have x86_64 version instead of i686 but otherwise identical setup. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/680821 Title: Display port monitor works only if plugged in at startup -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 711174] Re: the application place is often displayed empty
I can confirm this bug, and I'm using alpha 2 candidate. Also, sometimes closing the 'emptied' application menu crashes Unity, is unable to recover and leaves the desktop empty from all panels, and only desktop and open windows are visible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/711174 Title: the application place is often displayed empty -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 681928] Re: GRUB cannot boot into MAC OS X
Have you tried installing Ubuntu using rEFIt? Link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MactelSupportTeam/AppleIntelInstallation (the dual-boot section) Before installing, read these topics before installing. It explains a possible reason for this problem and a workaround by installing the bootloader to the same partition as Ubuntu instead of replacing the Mac's own bootloader. After this you can either use rEFIt to boot into Mac OS X or Ubuntu, but I've seen discussions that some people who have created the partition for Ubuntu using Bootcamp, go to the boot menu by using the 'option' key and selecting the Windows icon, but I haven't tried that myself. Happens occasionally on MacBook when trying to hibernate, resulting in a completely frozen system. [Bug 651987] [NEW] urxvt redraw speed is horrible
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rxvt-unicode The urxvt in Maverick draws so slowly, that using irssi or mutt becomes terribly annoying. [Bug 623039] Re: mythfrontend crashes on starting playback of some DVB recordings
I installed the autobuilds (after backing up the DB) on the frontend machine (the one I reported this error from, originally, and the one using nvidia-current), and both recordings that were causing problems earlier now worked ok. I've not had a chance to extensively test many previously-working recordings, except to test that two others played ok for the first minute or so at least. I next upgraded the backend computer to autobuilds (0.23) also, but won't be able to test that one until late. It is still recording ok at least, and I don't really anticipate any problems since the crashes appeared in exactly the same manner on both computers. -- mythfrontend crashes on starting playback of some DVB recordings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/623039 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 623039] Re: mythfrontend crashes on starting playback of some DVB recordings
The same crash occurs also when other video renderers (VDPAU, OpenGL) are used, and whether or not OpenGL vsync is enabled. A gut feeling says the crashes occur only on recordings with DVB subtitles, but this is not necessarily true -- the two recordings I found which cause the crash were both on channels with DVB subtitles, but some other recordings from the same channels seem to work ok. MPlayer (2:1.0~rc3+svn20090426-1ubuntu16) is able to output the raw MPEG2 file without subtitles, using both "-vo gl2" and "-vo vdpau". -- mythfrontend crashes on starting playback of some DVB recordings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/623039 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
