Re: [Bug 785474] Re: system test program references Open Office in Ubuntu 11.04

Daniel,

Thank you for your reply...

I did what you asked and it works (now!!!?). I got output(s) as you
described.

Then I did it again (the original way I did it before) and it still
works!!!?

I'm not too sure what happened between the first time and this time.

Maybe I should reformat, install Natty, and try the system test again.
Do you want me to do that?

I'll wait until I hear from you one way or another

Thanks for the help.

Stephen

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
 Ubuntu better.

I have been unable to reproduce this bug. What I tried is:

1- Launch the System Testing application
2- On the Test Selection screen, I press Deselect all and then select User
 Applications
3- When the tests start, I press Next to skip tests that aren't related to
 *Office.
4- When I hit a test that says Now we will attempt to open... and refers to
a file type that can be handled by *Office (for instance, an .odt file) I
 press Test

Upon doing this, my Natty system correctly launches LibreOffice and
 displays the requested document.

In any case this doesn't look like a problem with System Testing, as all
it does is launch the user's preferred application by invoking

 xdg-open /usr/share/checkbox/data/documents/OpenOffice_Text_Test.odt

So what I'd like to ask you is to run the command I posted above, from a
terminal window (press ctrl-alt-t to open a terminal window), and let us
know what happens. Ideally it should open the document with LibreOffice.

You can also check which application your system uses to open odt files
 with this command:

 xdg-mime query default application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text

 on Natty this should output

 libreoffice-writer.desktop

If it outputs something different, please also let me know.

 Thanks!

Daniel,

OK, that sounds fine to me, mark it invalid.

I figure the machine I cobbled together from spare parts, just had a
belly ache and didn't wanna-do-it.

Thanks again for the help.

 Hi Stephen,

Thanks for testing the procedure I suggested.

There's no need to reinstall, I just re-tested this on a new Natty
installation and was still unable to reproduce the problem.

Since you mention things are now working for you, I'm thinking it might
have been a transient problem, something particular to your specific
configuration. As the problem is not reproducible, for now I will mark
 this bug as invalid.

However, if you come across the problem again, and manage to reproduce
it (i.e. make it happen) in a reliable way, please reopen the bug (click
on the pencil icon next to status on the top of this page and set to
New), and don't forget to include the steps to reproduce the problem.

Thanks again for your testing and help!

[Bug 785474] [NEW] system test program references Open Office in Ubuntu 11.04

2011-05-19 Thread Topbarhive
Public bug reported:

I tried to test my system after a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04, there
is an issue when it tries to open Open Office Writer (etc) to test
(whatever it was trying to test). The problem is Open Office is not the
default suite for 11.04.
