[Bug 180900] Battle for Wesnoth data incorrect?

2008-01-06 Thread Tristan Rhodes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: popularity-contest

Battle for Wesnoth has 1 star.
Battle for Wesnoth Map Editor has 3 stars.

How likely is someone going to use the map editor without installing the
actual game? This doesn't make sense, so perhaps the data is incorrect?

Is this a sign of a larger problem with popularity data?

[Bug 161776] Re: Xorg compiz eats lots of memory

2007-12-13 Thread Tristan Rhodes
I have seen compiz.real use 794 MB of memory on my 2 GB system!

When this happens, I go to SystemPreferencesAppearanceVisual
effects and choose None. After compiz is shutdown, I re-select
Normal and compiz.real starts up and only uses 18 MB of memory.
Somewhere along the line, a memory leak or similar is causing compiz to
waste 776 MB of memory.

FYI, I am using the Nvidia binary driver.

Sebastien,

Thanks for the tip, I thought I was doing the right thing. I will use
the method you suggested.

Thanks,

Sebastien Bacher wrote:
Thank you for your bug. Dealing with crash files manually attached is a
lot of extra work, could you use apport to send your bug? You just have
to go to /var/crash using nautilus and double click on the crash for
that. I'm closing this bug since apport will automatically open a new
one which will get automatic debug retracing.

[Bug 162924] Cannot go back and cannot even quit!

2007-11-15 Thread Tristan Rhodes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: migration-assistant

Ubuntu 7.10 Desktop CD

I wanted to migrate a user from an old install to this new install. I
clicked on the user and their content, but I forgot to fill in the
bottom fields to create a new user.

When I clicked Next, the interface reminded me that I needed to complete
those fields to move on.

Well, at that point I wanted to go back one step so that I can start
this step 5 over again. I clicked back but nothing happened.

Since I wanted to start over, I decided to hit cancel. It asked if I
wanted to quit or cancel and I choose quit. (BTW - That is a
confusing dialog - you must cancel to quit, but don't cancel the quit
dialog.)

After choosing quit, the dialog went away but the window stayed open.
It did not close! I then tried the x button on the top right. It
brought up the same quit dialog, but this time it closed when I hit
Cancel. A few seconds later I was told that a crash was detected. I
sent the data to Ubuntu via that crash interface.

Next I tried to start up the Installer again, but it just will not even
open. I am going to reboot this live-cd to try the install again.

I just ran into this bug as well. I was browsing through the

That bug also adds the case where you right-click on something and leave

[Bug 124825] Re: Live-cd should notify the user of prolonged boot time

2007-07-08 Thread Tristan Rhodes
I agree with this idea. The boot time on the live-cd does take a long
time, and it would be a great time to inform the user of some basics.
The live-cd is often the first time that people get to see Ubuntu, which
is another good reason to inform them of the basics.

Here is an idea of what could be included:

First, an explanation of what a Live-CD is (temporary, running in
memory, no hard drive changes, slower than normal installation).

Second, some basics about what Ubuntu is (free software) and what it can
do (internet, office application, games, collaboration, email, thousands
of applications to choose from).
