[Bug 509477] [NEW] sync request: new version from July (js2-20090723b.el)

[Bug 500475] [NEW] sync to new 3.00 version from CPAN

2009-12-25 Thread Trochee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libdevel-nytprof-perl

I'm not sure what the policy is for syncing with new CPAN releases like
this, but Tim Bunce (CPAN author of Devel::NYTProf) has released a 3.0
with a number of feature improvements.

and CPAN has release 3.00 of Devel::NYTProf

[Bug 367827] Re: x-www-browser is launching epiphany even if I have firefox selected as my preferred web browser

2009-11-02 Thread Trochee
... and this bug has re-appeared on upgrading to Karmic again.

I discovered this because thunderbird started opening web pages with

[Bug 367827] Re: x-www-browser is launching epiphany even if I have firefox selected as my preferred web browser

2009-04-28 Thread Trochee
I have the same effect on upgrade to Jaunty. I don't know which package
is broken, but it looks like the Preferred Applications menu is not
properly updating /etc/alternatives. Though I set firefox to browse web
pages Preferred Applications, /etc/alternatives points to epiphany.

Workaround:

sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser
[pick firefox]

but this isn't a fix; this is just a workaround; the auto setting gets
it wrong.

I can't tell what package this belongs to, either, but I suspect it's
whoever owns the System|Preferences|Preferred Applications dialog.

On reflection, other userspace daemon-like programs (workrave and twitux

the daemon (there's options to quit as well, but the standard close

I vote for Mattias' patch here, which I believe has the right behavior.

[Bug 173350] Re: Caps lock LED changes state even when caps lock is mapped to ctrl

Eythian: I am also having his problem with a hotpluggable USB keyboard.
This is a work laptop that I take to and from home; both locations have

I have the same experience (that System|Preferences|Keyboard - Layouts
-Other Options... configurations do not apply to hotplugged keyboards).

I am not 100% sure that this is the same as .xmodmap files not applying,
but it has been one of the virtues of Ubuntu for me that I can configure
my desktop experience with the pointy-clicky rather than learning YADF
(yet another dot file).

[Bug 301455] [NEW] [needs-packaging] please package gargoyle interactive fiction reader

2008-11-23 Thread Trochee
Public bug reported:

[Description from homepage]

Gargoyle is an IF player that supports all the major interactive fiction
formats.

Most interactive fiction is distributed as portable game files. These
portable game files come in many formats. In the past, you used to have
to download a separate player (interpreter) for each format of IF you
wanted to play.

Gargoyle is based on the standard interpreters for the formats it
supports. Gargoyle is free software released under the terms of the GNU
General Public License.

[additional commentary]: the most popular IF readers in Ubuntu (e.g.
frotz) do not support all formats; gargoyle *does* support (for example)
the blorb archiving format, which frotz does not. Similarly, frotz
only supports Z-machine interpretation while the other high-level IF
languages are unsupported.

URL: http://ccxvii.net/gargoyle/ , with latest downloads available from
http://code.google.com/p/garglk/
License: GPL v. 2

Notes:

User radix (https://launchpad.net/~radix) is one of the developers and
has already packaged this into a .deb and put in a PPA, details at
https://launchpad.net/~radix/+archive , so the MOTU should have little
work involved in bringing this in to (I hope) Jaunty.

[Bug 276517] Re: Pressing cancel on gaskpass dialog should return non-zero error.

2008-11-22 Thread Trochee
why *not* remove gaskpass ? It's AFAICT completely outside the mission
of gSTM and a perfectly good replacement exists for it (using
ssh_askpass, as suggested elsewhere).

having a separate and relatively untested codebase that does something
security-related (bugs in code that asks for passwords is totally a
security concern, I'm sorry to disagree) just seems like asking for
trouble, when there's a well-tested and widely-used equivalent available
with a minor code change (that I've already submitted) on a different
gstm bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstm/+bug/276534) as
mentioned above.

[Bug 276534] Re: gstm should drop gaskpass and Depend: ssh-askpass

2008-11-22 Thread Trochee
I believe it is a mistake to maintain a separate security-sensitive
application (asking for passwords) inside a tangentially-related
package, when a perfectly good -- and well-maintained -- programs exist
for the same purpose. ssh-askpass-gnome is even part of openssh, which
is (I think) necessary for gSTM.

Choosing 'Won't Fix' -- including gAskPass makes this package
unnecessarily bloated and is well beyond the scope of a graphical tool
for organizing SSH connections.

I can confirm a very similar problem on Hardy firefox:

I've attached a similar gdb dump. However, things stop so severely that
I am not offered the chance to apply the backtrace. This is with a new
default profile (no extensions added to this profile).

This does not crash on opening gmail and logging in. it does crash upon

[Bug 276530] [NEW] gaskpass does not grab focus

gaskpass does not grab focus. This behavior contrasts with the behavior

[Bug 276534] [NEW] gstem should drop gaskpass and Depend: ssh-askpass

2008-09-30 Thread Trochee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gstm

There are several well-audited, well-supported implementations of ssh-
askpass available in ubuntu (for example, ssh-askpass-gnome). Given the
bugs in gstm's gaskpass utility (#276517 #276525 #276529 #276530) it
seems like it would make sense to drop that utility and defer to the
more widely-used ssh-askpass implementations.

I imagine this is a drop-in (er, drop-out?) replacement, and the
maintainers could guarantee that ssh-askpass was present by adjusting
the Depends: line in the package description to include ssh-askpass.

** Affects: gstm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 276534] Re: gstm should drop gaskpass and Depend: ssh-askpass

2008-09-30 Thread Trochee
I've attached a patch that removes the calls to gaskpass and changes the
Depends: accordingly.

** Attachment added: does not alter SSH_ASKPASS; Depends: ssh-askpass

[Bug 173350] Re: Caps lock LED changes state even when caps lock is mapped to ctrl

2008-04-27 Thread Trochee
I have this problem as well on Hardy B5, to which I upgraded this
morning 27 April from Gutsy. (My system has incrementally updated since
Dapper, so there *may* be cruft, but I've been pretty good about
revisiting my dotfiles.
