[Bug 909870] [NEW] unity and dash incorrect behaviour

2011-12-29 Thread Twig
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1) Click on the dash Home icon

2) Instead of using the dash, click on one of the icons on the sidebar
of an application that is already running

3) The application moves to the foreground but the title bar is not
usable and only becomes so when you either:

a) Click on the application window
b) Click on the application icon in the sidebar

What I would expect to happen is that the application moves to the
foreground and the title bar is usable immediately.

Hope this makes sense. Have not tried with applications on the sidebar
which aren't running.

Thanks,
Twig.

[Bug 801305] [NEW] unity does not interact with onboard correctly

2011-06-23 Thread Twig
Public bug reported:

When bringing up the unity dash, I would expect to be able to type using
the onboard onscreen keyboard application in order to search the
machine. When the onboard application gains focus, however, the dash
disappears.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Launch Onboard
2) Bring up the dash (top left corner of the screen - I hope I have the correct
terminology)
3) Click on Onboard to try and enter text. Dash disappears.

I would expect the dash to remain present and to be able to use the
onscreen keyboard to navigate.

Cheers,
Twig.

[Bug 766612] Re: nfs mount points do not appear in the unity launcher and there is no way to add them manually

2011-04-26 Thread Twig
From my point of view, I would be happy if such mount points were
bookmarks for Nautilus and appeared in Unity as other mount points,
CDs and external drives currently do.

It may be that there needs to be a distinction between local and network
drives in order to avoid clutter. SMB shares don't display in Unity
either but this isn't as important to me as I use such shares on a
temporary basis. However, it would be nice to be able to manually pin
(frequently used) items to the launcher.

Thanks,
Twig

[Bug 766612] [NEW] nfs mount points do not appear in the unity launcher and there is no way to add them manually

2011-04-19 Thread Twig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

I have several nfs mounts listed in my /etc/fstab and would expect them
to appear in the Unity launcher. My local drives appear here and any
drives I add after boot such as CDs or external hard drives appear
correctly. It does not appear to be possible to add the mount points
manually by for example dragging them from the desktop to the launcher
(as I would expect to be possible).

Thanks,
Twig.

[Bug 643031] [NEW] Nautilus doesn't display downloaded .iso file

2010-09-19 Thread Twig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Recently upgraded to Maverick. I downloaded the following .iso image
(with Firefox) to my Desktop:

http://www.phoronix-test-suite.com/?k=pts_desktop_live

The file isn't displayed on the desktop and is missing in Nautilus even
if I show hidden files. Other programs such as brasero or mplayer show
the file and I am able to access it via gnome-terminal - I renamed the
file this way in order to see if it had any effect which it didn't.

I'm not sure if this affects any other filetypes or files and
unfortunately, the linked .iso image is 1.4Gb

[Bug 399821] Re: [i845] karmic fails to initialise display on boot. 2.6.31-3 + drm + Intel 845G

2010-06-08 Thread Twig
Further problems with the new 2.6.35 kernel - 2.6.35-1-generic
#1-Ubuntu:

If I boot with no parameters passed, I am unable even to ssh to the box
(as I have been able to with earlier kernels)

If I boot with nomodeset paramater, I get ubuntu running in low-graphics
mode with the following errors:

(EE) intel(0): No kernel modesetting driver detected.
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

followed by no display but I can ssh to the machine.

It seems that whatever fixed the problem in #53 hasn't been applied to
newer kernels. If someone can show me where to start investigating this,
I'd be happy to do so.

Thanks,
Twig

[Bug 399821] Re: [i845] karmic fails to initialise display on boot. 2.6.31-3 + drm + Intel 845G

2009-12-21 Thread Twig
Mainline kernels 2.6.32.2 and 2.6.33rc1 DO have the same problem.

If I pass the nomodeset parameter, the machine boots fine.

Where would I find the latest karmic-proposed kernel to test?

[Bug 399821] Re: [i845] karmic fails to initialise display on boot. 2.6.31-3 + drm + Intel 845G

2009-12-17 Thread Twig
Andy:

When this issue surfaced in the Karmic development cycle, the mainline
kernel builds always worked. However, I'll try the mainline builds and
the karmic-proposed and see if I can narrow down the issue further when
I get in front of my test box - likely early next week.

This is now re-occurring with Lucid since very early in the development
cycle and has been persistent over the last few kernel updates. I will
try and isolate the kernel version in which this first occurred
(although I suspect it was when the first 2.6.32 landed)

[Bug 488990] [NEW] Recent Documents list in Places menu not updated correctly for .exe files

2009-11-26 Thread Twig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine1.2

Not sure if this also occurs in the wine package which is shipped in
Karmic by default although I will check.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Open a .exe file using wine
2) Observe the Places - Recent Documents list and see the .exe is at the top
of the list
3) Open one or more other documents and observe that the .exe has moved down
the list
4) Launch the .exe again from the list
5) The .exe does not move to the top of the list. This is inconsistent with the
behaviour of other filetypes

Hi,

Please could you provide specifics of the web site(s) you are trying to
access. If possible, try to access the site with a different browser in
order to verify if this is an issue with Firefox. Please also follow the
steps outlined by John Vivirito to try with a new profile.

Thanks,

[Bug 441338] Re: CD drive not eject after cd inserted them becomes unusable karmic

2009-11-19 Thread Twig
I also have the exact issue described. One thing I've noticed is that it
affects burning .iso images in Brasero. I can do the following:

1) Insert blank cd
2) Blank CD icon appears on desktop
3) Try to burn .iso image to CD
4) Image fails to burn and disk fails to eject.
5) Eject will always work from the desktop but hardware eject does not.
6) Repeat the process and the image will never burn correctly.

However if prior to this process, I insert a playable DVD and then eject
it, the image will consistently burn.

I will check whether the icon disappears from the desktop in step 4)
above as I am not in a position to test at the moment.

[Bug 438494] Re: Brasero reports blank CD's free space incorrectly.

2009-10-11 Thread Twig
Having just burned another ISO image, I think I may have spotted a
possible connection. The free space reported seems to in fact be the
total amount of space available on the blank cd minus that which would
be used by the files contained within the image.

So, for example, if my blank CD can hold 700Mb of data and my ISO image
is 100Mb, Brasero will report something similar to:

Blank CD-R Disc: 600Mb of free space.

[Bug 294406] Re: 2.6.27-7 kernel does not recognise Liteon DH20A4P CD / DVD burner

Hi,

Thanks for responding. There's no way I can feasibly test this any more
as it applies to two versions I no longer run on my system and a
configuration I've changed anyway (as reported). It can be closed in my
case and the only reason I left it as unresolved was in case it affected
anyone else.

Thanks,

[Bug 416693] [NEW] Several Issues with Terminal Server Client Error Dialog box

2009-08-20 Thread Twig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rdesktop

Steps to reproduce this bug:

Connect to a Windows server with Terminal Server Client and disconnect
producing an error dialog. This error dialog itself may have been
produced by another bug. However, the dialog box is a default one.

Problems:

1) The Default size of the dialog box isn't wide enough to accomodate the text:
Terminal Server Client Error
2) If a user clicks the details dropdown to show information and then clicks it
again to hide information, the dialog box is not correctly resized.
3) The bold text is too generic. An error has occurred is superflous when
combined with the accompanying warning symbol.

Suggestions:

1) Either increase the horizontal size of the dialog box or preferably remove
it and show the information as below.
2) Correctly resize the dialog button in the case mentioned above or see below.
3) Consider having the actual error text accompany the warning symbol
4) Merge the countdown timer for reconnect with the Connect button in order to
improve the UI and conserve space.

Version of Ubuntu: 9.04 Jaunty
Version of rdesktop: 1.6.0-2ubuntu1

Thanks,
Twig

[Bug 399821] Re: [i845] karmic fails to initialise display on boot. 2.6.31-3 + drm + Intel 845G

2009-08-11 Thread Twig
Hi,

Just to clarify: The mainline kernel works fine. I can test the latest
mainline but it won't be for a day or so.

None of the Ubuntu kernels work since rc2. All patches which I've
applied have been to the Ubuntu kernel source (by downloading the linux-
source package). I hope this is the right way of doing this.

I've tried the patch I mentioned and also those suggested on upstream
bug 22980 at comment #7 (although I'm not sure how to apply the third
patch as it doesn't seem to be a patch to the kernel source code).

All kernels boot correctly if I pass the nomodeset parameter.

Thanks,
Twig.

[Bug 399821] Re: [i845] karmic fails to initialise display on boot. 2.6.31-3 + drm + Intel 845G

2009-08-03 Thread Twig
I had more time than I orginally thought today to do some further
testing (and lots of googling) and have made some progress.

The mainline 2.6.31 rc3 kernel worked correctly. I can boot the
problematic rc3 kernel by passing the nomodeset parameter.

If I pass the VGA = ask parameter to the rc2 kernel I get a list of VGA
modes. If I do the same thing with the rc3 kernel I get the same list of
VGA modes plus a second set of VESA modes (none of which appear to
work).

That led me to this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
vesa/+bug/401214

and I've tried turning debugging on as suggested with:

echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/module/drm/parameters/debug

Although didn't get any extra output.

A little more searching led to a very similar looking bug report:

http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20115

with a patch attached at comment #50. I'm now at a point where I
probably need to learn how to patch a kernel which I won't get chance to
do today. However, at least it looks like this has been narrowed down to
a problem with KMS. Alternatively, I could be headed in completely the
wrong direction as this stuff is a bit over my head. Let me know if
there's anything else I can try. I'll post any further results.

Twig.

[Bug 269256] Re: NowPlayingScreenlet.py crashed with error in connect()

2009-04-28 Thread Twig
I've added your PPA and upgraded. Unfortunately, I can't now get the
nowplaying screenlet to launch despite trying a few things:

Rebooted
Switched compiz off / on
reset the config for the nowplaying screenlet

I've also tried altering the view to show running screenlets and the
nowplaying screenlet is never listed as running.

I'm using rhythmbox as a music player. Let me know if you need any other
details.

[Bug 365945] [NEW] screen-profiles refresh causes inability to scroll in ssh session

2009-04-24 Thread Twig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: screen-profiles

This may not be a genuine bug and it is just a minor annoyance. I have
the new screen-profiles package installed and running in Jaunty and set
to autorun when I ssh into my machine. I'm using the ubuntu-black
profile. When I run a command with a large output and try to scroll up
to look at the top of the output, periodically it will jump back to the
bottom. I believe this is caused by the refresh on one of the status
notifications which is part of the screen profile.

This behaviour is occurring on Jaunty final. I'm using Putty on a
windows machine as my ssh client.

** Affects: screen-profiles (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
