[Bug 2079848] [NEW] Plugins don't load due to error in nemo-compare.py

2024-09-06 Thread Ubuntu User
Public bug reported:

Issue was on a fresh install of Ubuntu 24.04 with nemo loaded via app
centre.

Plugin view was slow to load, description for nemo-compare missing and
no other plugins show. This includes fileroller installed via apt.

Running "nemo --debug" shows -

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/nemo-python/extensions/nemo-compare.py", line 168, in
get_name_and_desc
description = _("Allows file comparison from the context menu")
  ^
NameError: name '_' is not defined

Removing the underscore fixes the error and plugins then load correctly.
There seems to be a scoping issue with the i18n binding as it's done in
another method rather than globally so not available in the
get_name_and_desc method.

[Bug 1944581] Re: Session preference not respected; Wayland session started despite Xorg being selected

2021-09-24 Thread ubuntu user
Hello,

Thank you for your comments. The system log is included.

The user is logged in. I have verified that Xorg was already selected on
the login prompt, though I did not perform the explicit re-selecting
that is required to actually register the preference.

As a result, the Wayland session was started, despite Xorg showing as
the preferred session.

[Bug 286853] Re: auto scroll icon in print preview doesn't appear at mouse position

2021-09-22 Thread ubuntu user
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

When opening a print preview in Firefox 3.03 and clicking on the scroll
button, when auto scroll is enabled, the auto scroll icon appears, but
  not at the mouse position.

  To reproduce:
  Step 1: Start Firefox

If auto scroll is not enabled, do so:

Step 2: Go to Edit > Preferences

Step 3: Go to the Advanced tab and select "use auto scroll"

Now, press the middle mouse button to test auto scroll. The auto scroll
icon should appear at the position of the mouse cursor.

Step 4: Go to File > Print Preview and use the auto scroll function.
You'll see that the auto scroll icon won't appear at the position of the
  mouse cursor.

[Bug 1944581] [NEW] Session preference not respected; Wayland session started despite Xorg being selected

2021-09-22 Thread ubuntu user
Public bug reported:

Session preference, in this case, is ignored in two scenarios:

* Cold boot, first log in: Even when Xorg session is picked through the cog
menu in the bottom right, Wayland session is started. Only when explicitly
re-selecting Xorg from this session picker, despite being selected and
displaying as selected already, the Xorg session is registered as the preferred
one.
* Gnome session crash ("Oh no! Something has gone wrong" error). After
restoring session, Wayland starts by default, despite initially choosing Xorg
session.

[Bug 1812128] Re: No IRQ handler for Vector

2020-04-23 Thread Ubuntu User
Wow, this is really old. I am sorry for the lack of information. The
built-in system is obviously flawed, as previously noted. Further, I no
longer use Xubuntu, and have been very happy moving to Debian for a long
time now. No more errors and screw-ups from trying to reinvent the
wheel, and no more bad tech support.

Thanks anyway.

[Bug 1812057] Re: Upgrade Lost Firefox ESR

2019-01-18 Thread Ubuntu User
Obviously this has nothing to do with PPAs. This has to do with the
system wiping out all the installed programs and forcing manual re-
installations.

In this specific case, Ubuntu also damaged the linkages between programs
and their data. This is most bizarre because one would have thought
that the upgrade process would do no such thing and the strong promotion
to do the upgrade would imply to most people that their productivity
would be protected.

[Bug 1812057] Re: Upgrade Lost Firefox ESR

2019-01-17 Thread Ubuntu User
Olivier, I'm afraid that you appear to be laboring under a
misunderstanding. Please note that the issue is not what is supported,
but rather the stupidity of upgrade design that wipes out existing
programs. There is absolutely no reason to not care enough about users
to not leave things alone.

Of course I recognize that I am assuming that software people should
care about others. Just MHO.

« Please report bugs with my packages to **me** not to the upstream projects. »

I don't know what this means. Please explain.

[Bug 1812057] [NEW] Upgrade Lost Firefox ESR

2019-01-16 Thread Ubuntu User
Public bug reported:

System was upgraded from Xubuntu 14 to 16 by DVD. It wiped out many
things, including the installation of Firefox ESR.

ESR was manually reinstalled, but there appears to be no integration
with the former profiles. While they still exist, both Firefox Quantum
and Firefox ESR see the exact same profiles. There appears to be no way
to remedy the problem.

No crash is involved. If -profilemanager is used in Firefox, the same
choices appear in both versions. This was not the case prior to the
upgrade.

[Bug 1767968] Re: systemd-udev cause high cpu load after upgrade to bionic

2018-04-30 Thread ubuntu user
I have the exact same problem, also a Dell computer (Inspiron
something). CPU load is almost always at 100% and temperature sensors
measure over 100C! My computer has become unusable.

Also seeing a lot of these:
CPU1: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events =
2738)

Curious if this bug is a duplicate of

[Bug 1759836] Re: systemd-udevd consumes 100% of CPU

Do you see lines like the next one in your journal?

systemd-udevd[512]: Process 'hid2hci --method=dell
--devpath=/devices/pci:00/:00:1a.0/usb3/3-1/3-1.2/3-1.2:1.0'

I count more than 200 of that line per second in the journal and my Dell
Inspiron (older model) registers temperatures of over 100C!

[Bug 1589046] [NEW] Monospace font scaling changed between 15.10 and 16.04

2016-06-04 Thread ubuntu user
Public bug reported:

Verified booting system from live CD. Scaling of monospace font(or
window with monospace font inside) has changed. In 16.04 the same
monospace fond is smaller - visible in geany and Eclipse (see
screenshot). Font is DejavuSansMono 10 (default ubuntu monospace font)
in both cases . I think the scaling of same font should not change.

[Bug 1413659] Re: Precision Touchpad does not work in Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS after installing ubuntu on new Acer Aspire E 13 ES1-311C03V

2016-03-08 Thread john q ubuntu-user
It is an Acer problem. Here is a fix that worked for me.

Reboot and hold F2. You'll be in BIOS.
Under Main, go to Touchpad.
It will be on Advanced. You should change it to Basic.
Save changes and exit.
Your touchpad should work.

[Bug 403592] Re: CPU goes skyhigh when starting to play.

2009-07-23 Thread ubuntu user
Sounds more like hardware/driver issues instead of an alien arena bug.
What graphics card and cpu do you have, and does this happen for other
games? I think this is a pretty common occurrence for advanced graphics
games, at least for me. There are several in-game options to decrease
graphics if you really want to lower cpu usage.

[Bug 218049] Re: scrollkeeper-update failed with "corrupted double-linked list" during update-manager update

2008-06-28 Thread Ubuntu user
Reinstalled Ubuntu 8.04 once again, and same thing happened. The package
"update-manager" and "rhythmbox" couldn't get updated because during
their setting up "scrollkeeper-update" crashed with the aforementioned
error. So, to be more precise, the number of crashes is 2 during the
update -- the first update after clean install of Ubuntu 8.04.

[Bug 218049] Re: scrollkeeper-update failed with "corrupted double-linked list" during update-manager update

2008-06-28 Thread Ubuntu user
On a clean install of Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) from the official CD, on
a uniprocessor system, I just got several crashes during the first
update of the system (via the Update Manager):

For example, setting a new version of update-manager itself (quoted from
the update details log):

Setting up update-manager (1:0.87.27) ...
*** glibc detected *** scrollkeeper-update: corrupted double-linked list

In my opinion, this makes the Ubuntu installation risky to use for the
"normal user", i.e. I don't know the side-effects of these crashes at
update time, and I will have to reinstall Ubuntu from scratch when this
bug is resolved.

Yep...

Later versions have fixed the problem.

They turned out to be related to the gigabyte network card's drivers.

[Bug 224967] [NEW] [hardy] Multiple "parser errors" during installation

2008-04-30 Thread Ubuntu user
Public bug reported:

In the final Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy):

Applications->Add/Remove.../->Sun Java 6 Runtime. Looking at the console
(Details) during installation, I notice many "parse errors". This is on
a clean Hardy install (I have installed only a single non-Java related
application before trying to install Java).

Java seemed to install successfully, but I certainly won't attempt using
it for anything serious after seeing those ominous errors.

Interestingly, after removing it, I re-installed it, and I didn't get
these errors, but of course that doesn't mean that the damage isn't
there. I'll try reinstalling Hardy and report back.

** Affects: sun-java6 (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

Re: [Bug 72208] Re: No manual pages for ncplogin and ncplogout in package

2008-02-08 Thread Ubuntu User
That's what I was originally wondering.

If they exist for BSD, is there a license issue that restricts them from
being added to the man pages for the Linux counterparts of the same
commands.

If noting the license difference is all that is required, why aren't more of
the "undocumented commands" in the debian archive gaining documentation by
including the BSD docs with the appropriate notifications of license
differences in place?

Thanks for the clarification.

[Bug 162050] Error with Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7173A; drive practically unusable with Ubuntu

2007-11-11 Thread Ubuntu user
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) fails to install from a CD (not a DVD) in a Sony
NEC Optiarc AD-7173A, a recent DVD drive model. During the file/package
installation stage, there occurs a red error screen and installation
cannot continue.

I have tested this on two different computers -- Asus P4P800 and Asus
P5B-VM. I have tested multiple times on each computer.

The same Ubuntu CD I tested with isn't defective, either, because I have
used it with other CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives and have successfully managed
to install Ubuntu.

The same drive works under Windows Vista without getting any read or
write errors.

I haven't tested yet with Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy), and will report when I
do.

[Bug 153980] Re: 7.04->7.10 "Upgrade" fails: "Getting upgrade prerequisites failed"

2007-11-06 Thread Mike (another Ubuntu User)
I have the feeling that many mirrors are not fully up to date yet.

After changing the sources to http://archive.ubuntu.com and
http://security.ubuntu.com the upgrade worked for me on all machines.
When my upgrade was finished I changed my sources.list back to
ftp.hosteurope.de again. New updates arrive properly now.

Cheers

@ gcb:
Your log states: Failed to fetch
http://.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty-backports/Release.gpg Could not
resolve '.archive.ubuntu.com'

This means your /etc/apt/sources.list doesn't contain a valid source for
the packets because "http://.archive.ubuntu.com"; isn't a valid URL. Try
"http://archive.ubuntu.com"; instead (without the"." after "http://";) or
check http://www.ubuntu-nl.org/source-o-matic/ for a valid source near
you.

[Bug 153980] Re: 7.04->7.10 "Upgrade" fails: "Getting upgrade prerequisites failed"

2007-10-31 Thread Mike (another Ubuntu User)
I'm running 2 computers (Feisty Fawn 7.04) since a few months. On one
computer (I call it 'server') I run apt-proxy configured to get updates
from http://ftp.hosteurope.de/mirror/archive.ubuntu.com (but it doesn't
matter which source I use as I tested several different sources). The
second computer (I call it 'client') is using the apt-proxy of 'server'.
I updated 'client' to Gutsy Gibbon using apt-proxy from 'server' last
week. This was working fine without any trouble.

After feeling sure about the new distribution I tried to update 'server'
today. It is configured to use it's own local apt-proxy. This system was
always working fine before. But the update procedure on 'server' fails
with the error message ("Getting update prerequisites failed").

I already reconfigured Synaptics to update the main branch only which
did not solve the error.

Here's my /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log:

[Bug 158061] [gutsy] Automatic suspend broken on Asus P5B-VM

2007-10-28 Thread Ubuntu user
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

Manual suspend works, but not the automatic one. I get a desktop
notification saying “Sleep problem”. I did not experience this problem
with Ubuntu 7.04. Also, it seems that the solution should be a very
simple one, because manual suspend and resume DO work. Isn't automatic
suspend just a timer that fires off the same script that works when the
suspend button is pressed? Obviously not.

I have previously reported another bug, present in both Feisty and
Gutsy, which may or may not be related; I provide a link here:

[Bug 157778] [gutsy] Crashing with "Deskbar has unexpectedly quit"

2007-10-27 Thread Ubuntu user
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: deskbar-applet

After doing a couple or so searches via the deskbar applet, I am often
getting this error, asking me whether I want deskbar-applet to reload or
not. Some time after reloading, it crashes again. I've got this
happening several times over several machine reboots, so the crashes
seem to be often enough to be a significant problem.

[Bug 147437] "Terminal" app constantly wobbles when maximized

2007-09-30 Thread Ubuntu user
Public bug reported:

This is with System->Appearance->Visual Effects->Extra set, so that
wobbling windows takes place.

After a clean boot, opening, maximizing and closing a few applications
for a short while and/or opening, maximizing and closing "Terminal" a
few times, *ALWAYS* leads to the "Terminal" not stopping to wobble a
little when in a maximized window state. The wobbling is large enough to
make the "Terminal" totally unusable when maximized.

I wonder what is different for "Terminal" -- this doesn't seem to happen
with other applications.

[Bug 134619] Re: pc does not power off or restart after suspend-resume cycle is done at least once

2007-09-14 Thread Ubuntu user
I have the same motherboard model -- Asus P5B-VM. I have applied the
latest BIOS (BIOS 0901 downloadable from Asus). Indeed, if suspend has
been done once, reboot does not finish any more. But shutdown seems to
work (however, I think I saw it hang once, but I am not sure). Attached
is the output of dmidecode. Here's also the output of "uname -a":

Linux computer-2 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Fri Aug 31 00:55:27 UTC 2007
i686 GNU/Linux

My Ubuntu is clean install of Feisty, default software repositories and
fully updated.

Please advise on how I can test / help further.
