[Bug 40116] Re: Thinkpad 600e sound hardware not detected with Ubuntu Dapper Drake live CD (Flight 6)

2008-02-05 Thread Ulfzart
As Warren Butler wrote (except, maybe the lines into /etc/modprobe.d
/alsa-base - i didn't add them) , and plus setting acpi=off
pnpbios=off... makes the sound working, BUT it works TOO low.

Some people told that the sound very low even on other notebooks, still
they have the hardware volume on the top, and software volume on the top
too.

I've managed to find how to fix it!

run 'sudo alsamixer' and set the PCM volume hi (use arrows right/left to scroll
to the PCM, and up/down to set it), after setting the right volume press Esc.
don't remember how to save it permanently (but this is listed in the HOWTO and
not hard to find).

Thank you

[Bug 124922] Re: Video plays very slow using gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg

2007-07-10 Thread Ulfzart
As far as I have investigated, the bug is not primarily connected to the
gstreamer-.10-ffmpeg package. The systems performs the same with ffmpeg
package installed.

So. The bug is occured when I send my laptop to the sleep mode (suspend
mode). Hibernation mode still not tested.

Reinstalling the packages doesn't work to make the video run better -
only the deINSTALL and then INSTALL order may help. After that all is
working ok, until next sleeping of the machine. Even reboot BEFORE sleep
mode doesn't affect the video playback rate. And reboot AFTER sleep mode
also have no positive affect to fix the problem.

The problem occurs BOTH with ffmpeg and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg packages
(and I may suppose, that with other video codecs too...) and with ALL (I
guess, still tested only 3) video players.

Why does the sleep mode distort the video codec??? Is it only
Xubuntu/IBM TP/Suspend mode/Video problem/kernel? Or some mixture.

If anyone direct me, how to test it further, I will surely do.

P.S. I ask the moderator to link my two messages and to replace them
into another bug category. Thank you.

[Bug 40503] Re: Synaptics touchpad detection (regression)

2007-07-09 Thread Ulfzart
I mean, that if there is another methods to check for the laptop
platform, they should be used, but still, we need to check, whether the
computer uses battery or not. If the hardware is old, there is no way to
hotplug the battery (correct me if I'm wrong), so some people will use
the laptop without it, and they don't need some battery-modules in the
memory, that will just slow down the system. Also they won't be able to
hotplug the battery (even if thay do... then the modules should be
loaded). That was my idea.

Thank you.

[Bug 124922] Video plays very slow using gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg

2007-07-09 Thread Ulfzart
Public bug reported:

Initial data:
System: IBM ThinkPad 600x, 320 Ram, 12 Gb HDD
OS: Xubuntu 7.04 (installed via LiveCD)
--

Problem: after installation of the packages to play different mpeg, avi
etc. files everything is going ok. After a few restarts (not sure that
restar itself produce the problem, still try to investigate), the video
begins to play VERY slow - frame by frame.

Tested on files: *.mpg, *.mpeg, *.avi, *.wmv; And on videoplayers -
xine, totem and mplayer.

What helped: deinstalling (but not a total removement) of this package
(nothing else is touched). Immediate reinstalling via the Totem player
codec-searching (didn't try via synaptic). No additional redownload of
the package reqiured.

After reinstall all is working. The problem then appeared again. And
that way of fixing worked again too.

Now I will try to make it more clear what steps are making the package
to function wrong. Any help will be appreciated.

Re: [Bug 40503] Re: Synaptics touchpad detection (regression)

2007-07-08 Thread Ulfzart
If should check for the laptop... I mean, it would be much better, if it
check for that.

2007/7/8, Tormod Volden [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

So the question remains: why is the default setup procedure creating
the xorg.conf file in some different way?

Because when the installer CD starts and configures X, the battery
kernel module is not loaded, and therefore the laptop-detect script does
not see the battery and does not recognize the computer as a laptop and
then does not write the synaptics section.

For the specific card names turning into Generic: the mapping between
PCI IDs and names is in the libdiscover1-data package, which is
deinstalled at the end of the installation.

[Bug 60621] Re: usplash resolution error in boot and halt

2006-10-04 Thread Ulfzart
As for the bug being Low, it isn't hampering anything, as the system
still works even if the picture is ugly. And it didn't effect everyone
either, only a certain amount of us with apt-get upgrades and what
not.

Disagree! I made a fresh install, from alternate version!!! And it was
almost absolutely collapsed! I couldn't start even Xserver (made a few
tries, and always was the same!) Sure, the usplash bug (on the
configuring|installing process) is connected to the failier of the
Xserver, which i had to REINSTALL either!

I think, that bug is much MORE important, cause it can at least reject a
lot of new ppl, who would try to use Ubuntu instead of win for example.
They will see the console... they will try to use manual commands (which
will not work due to the corrupted installation!!!) and say linux is
not that good (in polite words...) what will they do then? U may
guess...

I vote to raise the importance of the bug!

[Bug 63906] Xserver and Gnome not installing properly on the Think Pag 600x

2006-10-04 Thread Ulfzart
Public bug reported:

When i tried 6.10 Edgy (and 6.06 LTS) after installing on my ThinkPad
600x i've got the console! and no way to startx.

on the 6.06 LTS i could start gnome manually

on 6.10 Edgy Beta i had to REINSTALL xorg, gnome completely (found, that
they just were not installed (may be some files only)). When i typed
startx - i got an error. Used aptitude. And dpkg. Now all is working.
But reinstalling distro repeated the bug!!!

But messed a lot...

PS. Installation was made from alternate version in text mode, no
additional options.

[Bug 60621] Re: usplash resolution error in boot and halt

2006-10-01 Thread Ulfzart
Ok friends, now, i have solved the problem! But in quite OTHER way! Here
it is:

1) to make the bootscreen and unboot screen in normal resolution, u
should have to edit /etc/usplash.conf file. For complete new users in
Linux (who managed to get to the point of editing files - enter cd
/etc/ and then use command sudo chmod a+rw usplash.conf this will
make the file writable to you. Next step is to edit it (preferably with
vi) - use command vi usplash.conf. What u have to do - is to replace
640 and 480 by the numbers 1024 and 768 (width and height). This is the
most common resolution. Or some other numbers (not tested).

2) Run command sudo update-initramfs -u. Wait! Before it will be
finished, cause on the slow proc it can take a few minutes to go (may be
even more). So when the console back again, type sudo reboot.

3) Now u will have to immediately see unboot screen, and after reboot -
nice grafical screen from the start. IF U STILL CANNOT RUN STARTX (this
problem is common with the usplash bug) - proceed to this operations (u
will probably see, that the server is just not installed, neither is
gnome):

4) run sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg - it will install the
X-server. Then use sudo aptitude and enter not installed files /
Gnome files - install almost ALL of them (use + and g - buttons).
Be sure u have it all.

5) run sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg - follow the instructions of
the package. Advice - try to use 16 bit screen to improve the
perfomance.

6) reboot, and see the nice gnome Ubuntu.

Hope - this will help others.

PS. Keep the Alternate-CD 6.10 Beta in your CD-ROM - u will need it to
update packages.

PPS. Before i came to this solution, i spent more than five hours of my
sleeping :( Don't make my mistakes - use the right way. And please -
report the result here!

(To the developers - why alternate simple instal doesn't copy xserver
and gnome???)
