[Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver

2012-05-17 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Evan,

As mentioned in #135, you need to enable precise-proposed to get the fix at the
moment. This is not an untrusted source, it is an official Ubuntu source. See
the following links for more information, and how to enable it:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuUpdates
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed

I don't know why this is not in the main repository yet - as most people
have had success, and some have had no effect - it hasn't made anything
worse for anyone. Someone like Martin Pitt who approved this into
-proposed should be able to comment on that.

[Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver

2012-05-16 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Hi all,

For those who have not had success with the fix, I just wanted to mention that
the following needs to be done to make sure the new driver is being used:
- Log into Unity 2D
- Enable precise-proposed
- Install nvidia-current-updates
- In Additional Drivers settings dialog, enable the updated driver by selecting
the version current-updates line and clicking on Activate
- Reboot
- Choose Unity from the login prompt

I just thought it might be useful to re-iterate even though most of
these have been mentioned before, as I made the mistake of missing out
on some at first.

Of course, many of you may have done it already and still not succeeded
- this is just in case you didn't follow all the steps.

[Bug 537325] Re: White text on light background in ambiance

2010-03-20 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
I think the light background in the task bar should be changed into a
dark one. In its present form, it is quite distracting to see the task
bar - it would normally indicate this window is trying to get my
attention, when in reality it is already the currently used window. I
end up consistently clicking on this only to minimize the window I'm
working on.

To differentiate current window from the other windows, it may use a
different dark shade but it shouldn't be a light one.

Thanks for the information, but that's sad to hear. I was using the
latest version provided by Ubuntu at the time I reported this crash (and
my Ubuntu version is also always the latest, starting from the Beta

provided by my distro, but if the bugs in these versions will not be
fixed, I'll not report them next time.

[Bug 444135] [NEW] update-manager did not clean up after dist-upgrade

2009-10-05 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Hello,

When upgrading from Jaunty to Karmic, an error appeared during
configuration of samba packages. This was normal since I had manually
deleted the conf file for samba from /etc at some point and forgot to
place it back. I wasn't aware that this would cause problems during the
upgrade.

However, after failing at this point, the message appeared saying upgrade was
not completed successfully. However, except for the 5 samba-related packages,
everything was done. update-manager halted at this point and did not complete
the remaining two steps:
Clean Up
Reboot.

I rebooted and got into Karmic just fine. I corrected the errors by
restoring the samba conf file and running dpkg --configure -a.

The problem is that that clean up was never done, and I am left will all
the stale packages from Jaunty.

I feel that update-manager should have completed all the steps and then
gracefully exited with the error message. In this case because of a
missing conf file it halted the process abruptly.

Log files from /var/log/dist-upgrade are attached.

[Bug 335644] Re: Audio replaced with static

2009-04-16 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
One of my recent updates resulted in the same thing. I'm relieved that
the solution is to just to raise the PCM volume. I have had this before
when I had upgraded to Intrepid, and couldn't find a resolution so did a
clean re-install to get sound working again. I was scared I would have
to reinstall again.

I'm thinking it is a bug that the PCM volume is set to 0 by some
updates. Is this assumption correct and will there be a fix for this?
While it is easy for me now that I know it, it would be a big pain for
others who haven't realized the magic trick.

Thanks.

[Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB disk are very slow

2009-02-15 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Perhaps an extra piece of info which may be useful - I've recently bought a
Western Digital Passport portable hard drive. The USB transfer rates with this
drive are good (7-10MB/s).
However the USB flash drive performs as described by others above. The speed
decreases after some 70-80 MB is copied and comes down to ~400KB/s.
Running an up-to-date Intrepid.

[Bug 285695] [NEW] Nautilus asks for user password when launched

2008-10-18 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Steps to reproduce:

Click on Places menu
Click on any option like Home
Nautilus pops up the gksu password prompt.

Clicking on any local bookmarked folder name produces the same result. It
should not do that, but just open the said directory. This started happening
after I upgraded to Intrepid beta from Hardy.
Currently running an up-to-date Intrepid.

[Bug 99508] Re: Window titlebar displayed not right with compiz enabled

2008-10-17 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
This bug has 28 duplicates, how can it be affecting a small number of
people? I'm sure there are plenty of people who haven't commented here.

For me also the hardy workaround had fixed the problem, but it has reappeared
now that I've upgraded to Intrepid.
An annoying thing about this is that if you are working with a changing title
bar, like compose a new mail in evolution and start typing the subject - then
it will exhibit the behaviour which is distracting.

[Bug 262939] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in memcpy()

2008-08-30 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Take a look at the bug data of duplicate bug 262981, which is a similar
crash. There a message was selected and delete button was pressed.

Only thing I noticed in both cases is that the internet connection was
unstable and slow at the time, but that shouldn't have made evolution
crash.

[Bug 153727] Re: Ethernet device's number increases by one after every reboot

2008-08-30 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
I've had this problem in Gutsy and Hardy both, so a WONTFIX saying works
with Hardy won't be right.

Leann: Are there 2.6.27 debs to install on Hardy? I wont be able to move
to Intrepid yet, as this is my only laptop. I will be willing to give it
a shot if there were 2.6.27 was available for Hardy, if they are safe
enough and won't eat up my data.

Thanks!

[Bug 219648] Re: Laptop battery runtime reduced in Hardy compared to Gutsy

2008-08-30 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Leann: Yes, the issue is still present in Hardy. Why has this been
marked Incomplete? If you need any information please let me know and
I'll try my best to get it for you. I'm changing the status to Confirmed
as several people have confirmed this issue.

Regarding the 2.6.27 kernel, as I mentioned in another bug report I am
willing to test it if it is available for Hardy and not dangerous to
use. It is not possible to upgrade to Intrepid Alpha as this is my only
laptop.

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-08-02 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Emmet,

I'd say the bug is not fully resolved yet. 1 and 3 were the issues,
haven't had an issue with 2 myself.

For 1, it fails at step F (on my Nokia phone, I get Sending Failed
message).

For 3, it was failing at step I when I last checked, which was not a
long time ago. However, I just tried again and I am able to browse the
contents. Don't think there have been any bluetooth-related updates
since I last checked, so wonder how it is working now. But good to see
atleast some quick way to get the files to my computer from the phone is
working now.

So now, only 1 is an unresolved issue for me. Hope others can confirm on
that.

[Bug 252324] [NEW] Add Crawley to available clock applet locations

2008-07-27 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Public bug reported:

I'm unable to add Crawley (UK) as a location in the World Clock, to display
time and weather information. The location is present on weather.com:
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/local/UKXX0816?from=search_city

It should be added to the list of locations.

I'm running an up-to-date Hardy.

Thanks!
