[Bug 1788370] [NEW] multimail contrib hook missing

The directory `multimail` inside
https://github.com/git/git/tree/master/contrib/hooks is not part of the
package while the other hooks are present, especially the `post-receive-
email` hook that recommends to use `multimail` instead.

[Bug 1665736] [NEW] unstable packages installed without warning

2017-02-17 Thread Vampire
Public bug reported:

The openjdk-9 packages are packages of unstable early-access preview builds of
Java 9.
To users that are not aware of release dates for Java it looks like those are
stable ready-to-use packages.
Maybe there should be a prominent warning added that has to be dismissed
actively on installation and that warns that these packages contain unstable
early-access preview builds.

[Bug 1088775] Re: gwibber does not refresh Facebook feeds

2013-01-05 Thread Vampire
To be clear, my fix is for version 3.6.0-0ubuntu1 of package
gwibber-service-facebook. If you have a different version, the line number is
maybe different, but I guess the workaround is the same as long as it is the
same problem.
To verify that you have the same problem, run the following two commands

killall gwibber-service
gwibber-service -do

Now you should get some output during the run that reads like:

Dispatcher   Thread-5: ERRORfacebook:receive Operation failed
Dispatcher   Thread-5: DEBUGTraceback:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gwibber/microblog/dispatcher.py, line

  File /usr/share/gwibber/plugins/facebook/__init__.py, line 369, in __call__
return getattr(self, opname)(**args)
  File /usr/share/gwibber/plugins/facebook/__init__.py, line 393, in receive

  File /usr/share/gwibber/plugins/facebook/__init__.py, line 329, in _message

The 3rd line from bottom of this excerpt gives you the faulty line which
is 329 for me.

If so I guess this was a coincidence.

[Bug 1088775] Re: gwibber does not refresh Facebook feeds

2013-01-05 Thread Vampire
@Theodore

When Gwibber gets the answer from Facebook, it checks whether the answer
contains a key named privacy.
If the feed contains a key named privacy it reads out its subkeys
description and value unconditionally, assuming they are always present.
For the description subkey this is not true, as it is not present, or not
present anymore.
My WORKAROUND, NOT FIX as people call it, just checks for the presence of the
description subkey before trying to read it and if it doesn't find it sets it
to Unknown. Because I don't know whether this description is relied on
elsewhere in the code I do the else path with Unknown. If the description is
not used anywhere, the else path can be left out. Because of this uncertainness
and because I don't want to look through all the code to find out, it is a
WORKAROUND, not a proper FIX.
But it works find and doesn't mess up the security or privacy of Gwibber.

@Theodore, as I wrote it, just replace

if data.has_key(privacy):
  m[privacy] = {}
  m[privacy][description] = data[privacy][description]
  m[privacy][value] = data[privacy][value]

by

if data.has_key(privacy):
  m[privacy] = {}
  if data[privacy].has_key(description):
m[privacy][description] = data[privacy][description]
  else:
m[privacy][description] = Unknown

[Bug 1088775] Re: gwibber does not refresh Facebook feeds

2013-01-04 Thread Vampire
The problem is that the feed doesn't contain a description sub-key for the
privacy key.
Obviously this was present before but is no longer present.
But the code depends on it being there.

Workaround:

sudo vim /usr/share/gwibber/plugins/facebook/__init__.py

replace line 329 which reads

  m[privacy][description] = data[privacy][description]

by

  if data[privacy].has_key(description):
m[privacy][description] = data[privacy][description]
  else:
m[privacy][description] = Unknown

This is not a suggested fix as I don't know whether the else is needed
as I don't know whether some other code depends on description being
set in m.

[Bug 795098] Re: Natty: java menus have a mouse offset after de-maximizing in Unity

2011-06-15 Thread Vampire
Hm, strange. Actually I'm not able to reproduce it now.
I've had a head-crash of my system HDD and had to do the upgrade again.
Actually I was on Human Theme and are on Ambience now, but switching back
doesn't reproduce it.
I also have another graphics card now. I've had a crappy X300 before which had
too less GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE and because of that I had to configure my monitors
so that one was above the other, maybe that was the cause of the problem.
Now I'm on a different graphics card with Xinerama and the monitors
side-by-side and it doesn't reproduce.
Actually I've had some more strange issues when I had the monitors configured
one above the other that are all gone now.

[Bug 795340] [NEW] unity launcher doesn't show starter correctly until restart

2011-06-09 Thread Vampire
Public bug reported:

I'm having a problem. I distribute a Java application. jEdit to be
precise. The application also provides a .desktop file in
/usr/share/applications/. Directly after installing the .deb package,
the Dash can find the application, but if I start it, only a gray box
with question mark and title win0 appears in the launcher. Pinning
that is not possible, or rather it is possible but non-functional and
also vanishes if you restart unity. This behaviour exists until Unity is
restarted. From then on all behaves well. If I replace OpenJDK by Sun
JDK everything works right from the beginning, so I think this is an

[Bug 566309] Re: guake closes improperly with Alt+F4

2010-07-19 Thread Vampire
I could also simply right click the tray icon and choose close. But
still it is annoying. A security question whether I want to close guake
would also be nice as I usually want to close one application that is
shown below guake and that I thought had focus. I normally never want
guake to be closed. It would even be cooler if guake could remember the
tabs that were open, including there paths and optimally with the full
environment like command history.

2010-04-03 Thread Vampire
You mean 4.3.1. ;-)
What Java do you use derek_c?
If not the one from Sun, I would suggest trying that instead.
You can see the information about the JRE in use from the top of the activity
log.
You can find the activiry log in your settings directory which is ~/.jedit by
default.
Or you can go to Utilities - Settings Directory - activity.log from within
jEdit.

[Bug 441835] Re: Clicking on floppy gives no device media found

2009-12-16 Thread Vampire
Why don't you read what I write before complaining? Please re-read
comment #156. Following it works exactly like that KDE work around as
I wrote already, just better and without the need of starting some 3rd
party software.

[Bug 441835] Re: Clicking on floppy gives no device media found

2009-12-15 Thread Vampire
John, what makes you think this bug could be fixed. Neither a comment
here, nor the status of the bug suggest that it is fixed. So please be
patient and wait for a fix and stop spamming the subscribers of this
bug, this is very annoying. Martin just wrote that the guys now
understand the problem which just means that they know what is going
wrong and why and possibly are able to fix it as they were able to
reproduce it on my box now (I'm Björn Kautler). As it is clearly a bug,
of course they will also fix it, that is just a thing that can not
happen over night, so please be patient. Also it doesn't make any sense
to try commands that are clearly stated to be incorrect. gvfs-mount
/dev/fd0 is incorrect as it is missing the -d, so no sense in trying
it. gvfs-mount -d /dev/fd0 only works as root or maybe if you are in
the floppy group, but then the same user who did the mount also has to
unmount the volume, while this does not mount the floppy into the
floppy drive icon in places, but parallel to it, like also this voice
to text software does. Despite the error messages that appear with this
command, the mounting itself works fine. Noone said that issueing this
command is a fix, it was only part of investigating the source of the
problem.

[Bug 441835] Re: Clicking on floppy gives no device media found

2009-12-15 Thread Vampire
btw. if you have the line /dev/fd0/media/floppy0 auto
rw,user,noauto,exec,utf8 0   0 in your /etc/fstab, you can also
simply do mount /dev/fd0 as any user which has the same effect than
using that voice-to-text program. Then you even can unmount the floppy0
via nautilus. As temporary workaround you could make yourself a shortcut
that issues that command to mount a floppy.

[Bug 441835] Re: Clicking on floppy gives no device media found

2009-12-15 Thread Vampire
John, if you refer to After upstream discussion this should be fixed in
dk-disks after all., then this was just a misunderstanding. What Martin
meant to say was After upstream discussion this should get fixed in dk-
disks after all., just defining the component in which this will get
fixed somewhen in the future. It shouldn't mean that the bug is fixed
already. Of course it will need a software update, so as I siad, please
be patient until one arrives. Noone said it will be fixed without a
software update, I just told you a workaround for the meantime.

 Guys jumping in and going all negative on people does not help.

Correct, that is why I didn't do it. I jumped in and gave Martin access
to my box to find the cause of the problem what he did. THAT helped.
Your dozens of comments without any additional info that mostly contain
whining on the other hand do NOT help in any way. It just annoys anyone
who is subscribed to this bug as for every comment you write, a mail is
sent out. And writing comments in 2 minutes steps without any helpful
information, even after it was clearly stated that the cause of the
problem is clear now IS spam. I didn't attack ALL people, I just asked
you to not spam this bug with unhelpful comments. Instead I actually
attacked the problem in actively helping to find the root cause by
giving Martin access to my box what YOU didn't want to provide. That is
ok, but please don't complain that I attack people instead of the
problem.

For me, this discussion with you is over now. I will not reply to any
comment regarding this anymore, so please don't write any, it doesn't
help and is totally unrelated to this bug.

[Bug 441835] Re: [Karmic] floppy is not working

2009-12-14 Thread Vampire
What that voice to text software does has nothing to do with Gnome or
KDE. Just go to a commandline and do mount /dev/fd0 if the line in
/etc/fstab is present for the floppy. If not, the command would just be
a bit longer, but that has the same effect when letting the voice to
text software do the mount.

[Bug 441835] Re: [Karmic] floppy is not working

2009-12-13 Thread Vampire
Besides that it is not true that there is no way to mount it, I have the
same problem and if needed I would provide root access for Martin to my
box for investigation. Just tell me if you need it.

@ John if you mount the floppy via command line it shows up exactly as
the voice to text software does it.
