[Bug 458290] Re: [karmic] Wireless disconnects and doesn't reconnect

2010-06-30 Thread Victor Van Hee
I'm having the same problem. Wireless does not automatically connect
despite being asked to. Lucid seems to attempt connection when I log
in, fails, says disconnected eventually. If I click on the dropdown
menu and click the SSID of my wireless router, the connection then
works. Other computers (Mac and Windows) maintain connection to my WPA
router with no difficulty.

great. No graphical issues at all when I load up. Thanks.

With the live cd daily jaunty build from yesterday 09-Feb-09, I still

[Bug 274850] [NEW] The calendar xxx is momentarily not available message in Sunbird 0.9

2008-09-26 Thread Victor Van Hee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

In the newer version of sunbird 0.9 (actually the lightning 0.9 plugin
for thunderbird), I'm now getting a little exclamation mark in a yellow
triangle by a few of my davical caldav calendars (not all of them,
though). When I mouse over the exclamation marks, I get a Calendar xxx
is momentarily not available message. 0.8 didn't give me this message.

...But the calendar _seems_ to be working just fine. I can still add
and modify and delete events. I don't know if this is a 0.9 sunbird
issue or a davical issue. Not sure how to find out, either. Let me
know if you need additional info.

[Bug 272947] [NEW] failsafe (vesa) mode does not work in Intrepid Alpha 6 on ASUS notebook

2008-09-21 Thread Victor Van Hee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

vesa failsafe mode doesn't work 'out of the box' in Intrepid Alpha 6 on
my notebook (ASUS F8Sp) in Intrepid. Seems like it's not detecting my
hsync and vrefresh modes for my notebook screen, because when I enter
some correct hsync and vrefresh ranges in xorg.conf, it works. It's
also not automatically detecting what resolutions my monitor supports --
I can only choose from the default (800x600) resolution when I finally
do get into the gdm. Don't know if I should file this resolution
issue as a separate bug or not...

This is mainly a problem because none of the ATI drivers works for

[Bug 272406] [NEW] cannot start gnome X in intrepid (gray screen with horizontal thin flashing black lines)

2008-09-20 Thread Victor Van Hee
Public bug reported:

When I load up the latest live 64 bit ubuntu intrepid CD, I can't get
into the GUI. When Gnome tries to come up, I get odd
rainbow-like patterns around the edges of the screen fading into
the center (this might be intentional, but I've never seen it in
Hardy). Then a blank gray screen appears with intermittently
flashing horizontal thin black lines.

Hitting Shift-Alt-F1 takes me here to file this bug. I have an ASUS
F8 Sp (F8Sp) notebook with ATI Radeon HD 3650 graphics card.

Gnome works just fine on this laptop with the proprietary (fglrx)
driver in Hardy, but not this new, more Intrepid version.

Let me know if I can provide any other details.

[Bug 267185] Re: ati driver gives a white screen on xserver

2008-09-15 Thread Victor Van Hee
I'm having the same problem with ATI Radeon HD 3650 on ASUS F8Sp
notebook, except I get a white screen with intermittent horizontal dark
stripes. 64 bit Intrepid, Alpha 5. Driver identified as radeon. Ctrl-
Alt-F1 lets me go to command line.

Vesa 'safe mode' just crashes to command line without starting the gdm,
but no white screen. Vesa seems to identify no valid resolution /
frequency combos for this laptop screen.

Hardy works just fine on this computer / configuration (fglrx or vesa).

[Bug 264462] Re: Radeon Driver fails to load on 2 Sep daily [ATI HD3870]

2008-09-14 Thread Victor Van Hee
I'm having a similar (?same) issue on an ASUS F8Sp laptop with ATI
Radeon HD 3650 running Intrepid Alpha 5 64 bit Live CD. On starting the
GDM, I get a gray screen with intermittently flashing horizontal lines.
Everything seems to be working except the X, because I can hit Shift-
Alt-F1 and drop to a fully functional terminal. I'm attaching the xorg
log file. The xorg.conf file appears to be completely unconfigured (no
drivers or anything in it), although if I try 'X -configure' I get an
xorg.conf file that has the radeon driver in it, but it doesn't work
either (gray screen etc as above).

[Bug 192502] [NEW] bluetooth audio skips, cuts out

2008-02-16 Thread Victor Van Hee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluetooth-alsa

In Gutsy Server edition and using bluetooth-alsa 0.5cvs20070602, I'm
experiencing issues streaming audio from a dongle to an audio receiver /
headset device. After quite some time getting things connected and
working (it was fairly difficult without a GUI), I get good quality
audio for brief periods of time followed by intermittent loss of sound
(~2-3 seconds at a time). When I boot into Windows XP using the same
dongle (ASUS) and headset and stream music, the problem never occurs. I
had the same problem with a previous completely different dongle /
headset combination I was using previously.

Whether I use the pcm.A2DPD device or the pcm.bluetooth device doesn't
seem to matter -- I still get intermittent loss of sound.

The only error messages that I can find are long streams of the following in

[Bug 153995] Re: Cannot exit gnome-rdp fullscreen when visual effects are enabled

2007-11-26 Thread Victor Van Hee
The workaround described by Andy V works for me -- thanks. I also
created a launcher by right-clicking on the desktop and clicking create
launcher. Then I put 'rdesktop -g 1024x767 hostname' in the
'command' line and gave it a name. Now I can just click on the icon
that this process created, and CTRL-ALT-ENTER actually works.

Is this going to be fixed more permanently?
