Thinkpad P52s here. Same symptoms. Blacklisting nouveau indeed helps.

Same here. Using Lenovo P52s with a docking stations and two screens
connected to displayport. The crash does not happen if there are no
displays connected. The crash happens also if I try to change the
display order in settings.

Building kernel drivers for newer kernels requires gcc 4.9. Workaround
steps:

apt-get install gcc-4.9
rm /usr/bin/gcc
ln -s /usr/bin/gcc-4.9 /usr/bin/gcc
dpkg-reconfigure virtualbox-dkms
