[Bug 1906655] Re: Ethernet interface broken (Flags mismatch irq) after upgrading to kernel 5.8.0-31

2021-01-10 Thread Ville Ranki
This is still happening to me on up to date 5.8 kernel. I'd consider it very
serious
bug as for non-technical user the internet just stops working and updates
cannot fix it.

Workaround is to choose 5.4 kernel from grub menu.

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

I'm probably experiencing the same bug, although it happens right after
login. I can't click on windows and keyboard doesn't do anything. It can
take minutes until gnome starts working. Really annoying.

[Bug 1804626] [NEW] Vagrant does not work: Invalid gemspec in [/usr/share/rubygems-integration/all/specifications/rbnacl-libsodium.gemspec]: stack level too deep

2018-11-22 Thread Ville Ranki

1. apt install vagrant (on 18.04 lts)
2. vagrant box list

Invalid gemspec in [/usr/share/rubygems-integration/all/specifications

vagrant up also causes the same error and nothing happens.

Looks like the ubuntu package is broken according to is discussion on

[Bug 1719576] Re: Gnome-screensaver process keeps running after it's uninstalled

2018-01-15 Thread Ville Ranki
Removing the settings wouldn't help as the process is not stopped when
the package is removed. The bug most probably still exists in 17.10 and
future releases unless it has been fixed upstream.

[Bug 42401] Re: lpadmin: Request Entity Too Large

2017-12-27 Thread Ville Ranki
The bug seems to be back after 11 years. I recently upgraded from 17.04 to
17.10 and my printer stopped working. Adding it via cups web interface causes
"Request Entity Too Large".
There is plenty of free disk space.

# lpinfo -v

Should I file a new bug or change back to new or confirmed?

[Bug 1733888] Re: iwlwifi Error sending STATISTICS_CMD: time out after 2000ms.

2017-12-07 Thread Ville Ranki
To be realistic I probably won't be testing this with different kernels.
It's happening on a production laptop which I need daily and is a bit
tricky to reproduce. Maybe someone else suffering from the issue can do
the tests.

More info: the bug doesn't happen on every boot. Suspend/resume cycles
may trigger it. I haven't found a way to reproduce it reliably.

[Bug 1733888] [NEW] iwlwifi Error sending STATISTICS_CMD: time out after 2000ms.

2017-11-22 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

This started happening today so probably a new issue caused by a kernel
update.

Randomly, maybe every 45 minutes wifi disconnects and reconnects.
Attached is a log output from dmesg. Looks like issue is in the iwlwifi
driver. Disconnect causes TCP connections to drop so it's quite annoying
for end user.

ThinkPad T460p, up to date kernel on Ubuntu 17.04.

[Bug 1719576] [NEW] Gnome-screensaver process keeps running after it's uninstalled

2017-09-26 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

Steps:

1. Run Gnome (see note)
2. apt remove gnome-screensaver
3. Let the screensaver lock the screen
4. Try unlocking

Screen unblanks but the screensaver does not prompt for password and
there is no easy way to resume working.

Note:
Really I ran Cinnamon with both cinnamon-screensaver and gnome-screensaver
running (they should block eachother!) causing two lock screens. I uninstalled
gnome-screensaver as guided somewhere, but the actual process wasn't killed.

Fix for the bug is that the prerm script should kill remaining gnome-
screensaver processes and/or gnome-screensaver should unlock if it
detects it has been removed and cannot operate anymore. This should be
tested well as it poses a security risk.

[Bug 1366840] Re: sftp freezes nautilus after standby / resume cycle

2017-05-18 Thread Ville Ranki
I dug some information on this.

First, the workaround is: killall gvfsd-sftp

The bug is very much related to these gnome bugs:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=559065
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=563793

gvfs should be smart enough to unmount shares after a timeout if the
share can't be reached. This also could be done in Nautilus with more
user configurable parameters.

Same behaviour on v4.7-rc1. Tested on different PC as 4.7 doesn't even
boot on my laptop.

[Bug 1590345] [NEW] Difficult filenames crash tracker-extract

2016-06-08 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

Try this:

mkdir -p
"/tmp/yomyoha%20(2)/Petelius.ja.Hietanen-Y%C3%B6my%C3%B6h%C3%A4/Luontoilta/"
touch
"/tmp/yomyoha%20(2)/Petelius.ja.Hietanen-Y%C3%B6my%C3%B6h%C3%A4/Luontoilta/10_K%E4%E4rmetanssi.mp3"
/usr/lib/tracker/tracker-extract
"/tmp/yomyoha%20(2)/Petelius.ja.Hietanen-Y%C3%B6my%C3%B6h%C3%A4/Luontoilta/10_K%E4%E4rmetanssi.mp3"

tracker-extract crashes. File name like this causes tracker-extract to
crash on every boot on my system which is quite annoying. Tested on
ubuntu xenial.

[Bug 1589498] Re: Device file not created for TRC rudder

2016-06-08 Thread Ville Ranki
I recently acquired the hardware so I don't know if it has worked on
earlier kernel versions. I'll test with latest upstream.

[Bug 1589498] [NEW] Device file not created for TRC rudder

2016-06-06 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

(I reported this on linux-input ml but never got any replies. I hope
this reaches someone who has any clue what's wrong)

I have a USB HID joystick (professional grade rudder pedals) which
are not properly recognized as joystick. Event device is created,
but no /dev/input/jsX device node file. Other USB joysticks are
recognized and proper node files are created, so I suppose this
is a kernel issue. If not, could you point me to right direction?

Here's all info I could dig out of the device. Tested on kernel
4.4.0-22-generic on Ubuntu 16.04. The pedals output sane events
when testing with evtest, but are not found by applications as
the jsX file is missing.

[Bug 1580635] [NEW] Nothing happens when trying to add online calendar

2016-05-11 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open gnome-calendar
2. Open calendar settings
3. Click on "Click to set up" on any of the online accounts.

Nothing happens. There is no error message or anything. The gear icon
next to "Online accounts" header also does nothing.

I killed the calendar and ran it from command line. Clicking on any of
these buttons outputs:

$ gnome-calendar

** (gnome-calendar:5108): WARNING **: Couldn't open settings: Failed to
execute child process "gnome-control-center" (No such file or directory)

Package gnome-control-center is not installed. If it's required for
calendar to work, it should be a dependency. At least there should be
warning dialog that explains this.

Tested on 16.04 on Cinnamon desktop.

[Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

"Me too", with Ubuntu 15.10 and Jolla Sailfish (not Android!).
Workaround in comment #40 works, though you need to run /usr/lib/gvfs
/gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor to detect the phone.

"Me too."

Is this related do docker? If so, I installed it from Ubuntu's
repositories. Now this crash happens on every boot so it's quite
annoying.

Running Ubuntu vivid (15.04).

2015-10-24 Thread Ville Ranki
"Me too" here, except with Logitech DiNovo Edge mouse+keyboard combo.
The keyboard stops working while mouse works and "unknown main item tag
0x0" is found in the log.

#1410699 and #1442896 are probably related or duplicate.

This used to work until end of summer 2015. I don't know an exact date.
Running Ubuntu 15.04.

[Bug 1498390] [NEW] Blueman-applet uses 100% cpu

I'm doing some bluetooth development so I connect and disconnect devices
often. I managed to get blueman-applet to a state where it uses 100%
cpu. Any of test programs are not running so this is a fault in blueman-
applet.

May be related to #667701

Here's a stack trace of blueman-applet eating up 100% cpu:

[Bug 1441253] Re: hanging suspend job prevents shutdown

2015-08-14 Thread Ville Ranki
I just experienced the same issue, but I don't have anything related to
btrfs in logs. I also had a problem on a laptop (Thinkpad E540) with
external HDMI monitor not waking up. I tried to wake up the monitor by
closing and opening the lid. Finally I tried to shut down in the display
manager but nothing happened. Journalctl showed the same Failed to
start poweroff.target: Transaction is destructive. error. Before this
Suspend has never worked on the laptop.

Perhaps the issue is in non-working suspend hanging and not related to
btrfs.

[Bug 1463376] [NEW] Google account needs re-authorization

2015-06-09 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

I have set up a Google account in Online Accounts app. Every few weeks
there is a notification that applications can no longer access it and it
needs re-authorization. I don't know if this is by design.

When I set up the account, Ubuntu should remember it forever until I
disable the account or change my credentials in Google.

It is bad usability that the account must be re-authorized and causes
users not to use the feature. I understand this increases security, but
mandatory re-authorization every few weeks is way too often from user's
point of view.

Disconnecting and reconnecting the cable solves the issue until next
reboot, so I don't think it's a DHCP configuration issue. Other PC's on
the network work fine.

This has also been reported as kernel bug #1459985 as it's still unknown
what causes the issue.

persists.

[Bug 1459985] [NEW] r8169 ethernet stops working after a while

2015-05-29 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

I have a lenovoE540 laptop with a r8169 wired onboard ethernet. When
the computer is started, ethernet works fine for about 20-30 minutes.
After that network stops working.

dmesg shows that initially the link is up and stays up:

[ 41.806656] r8169 :04:00.0 eth0: link up

There are no other networking related messages. Networking starts
working again if I disconnect and connect again the cable. After this
networking works until computer is shut down.

This is reproducible and happens to me every day. There are also other
reports on r8169 issues but I didn't find a matching bug report on
launchpad. This happens only to this computer on network, so I doubt
it's a DHCP or other network misconfiguration issue.

[Bug 1419507] Re: gpu-manager writes wrong driver in xorg.conf fro nvidia-prime

2015-05-12 Thread Ville Ranki
This still happens on 15.04. I have a ThinkPad E540 with Optimus
graphics. Plugging in a HDMI display causes display to go blank.

I found this blog posting which explains that the issue is related to
gpu-manager not working correctly:

http://vxlabs.com/2015/02/05/solving-the-ubuntu-14-04-nvidia-346-nvidia-
prime-black-screen-issue/

This bug is a serious for people using laptops with NVidia Optimus as
it's not possible to connect a HDMI monitor to the device. The solution
in post above is way too complicated to be a good workaround.

[Bug 1445003] [NEW] No way to close background colour dialog

2015-04-16 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

1. Create a document
2. Open File / Document Properties
3. Click on Background colour

A colour chooser dialog appears, but there is no obvious way to close
it. It stays on screen if document properties dialog is closed.
Screenshot is attached.

Workaround: press ESC to close it.

If this is intended behaviour, please tag as a usability issue.

[Bug 1430696] Re: Bluetooth audio instability: Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle

2015-03-11 Thread Ville Ranki
I'd like to add that i have now a different laptop (Lenovo E540) than
previously, so the bug most probably isn't in the general bluetooth
hardware drivers. Other people suffer from the bug with a large variety
of hardware.

[Bug 1430696] [NEW] Bluetooth audio instability: Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle

2015-03-11 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

(I'm creating a new bug as instructed at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/898347/comments/29)

I havea Nokia BH-216 bluetooth headset. Generally it works well, but
randomly (after 5-15 minutes of use) it gets disconnected.

The kernel log output looks like this:

[ 3272.270382] Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle 0
[ 3272.270383] Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle 0
[ 3272.270384] Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle 0
[ 3272.270384] Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle 48
[ 3272.270385] Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle 0
[ 3272.270386] Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle 0

With quick googling this seems to be happening to other people with
other hardware and distributions so i suppose this is a BT audio bug in
kernel. Bug #898347 is related.

Tested on up to date Ubuntu 14.10 x86_64.

[Bug 1429822] [NEW] Cannot examine bug locally: apport-retrace is not installed

2015-03-09 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

On a Ubuntu 14.10 system, when i try to examine bug locally i get error:

Failed to execute child process apport-retrace (No such file or
directory)

This is because package apport-retrace is not installed by default.

Suggested solution: ask apport-retrace is needed but is not installed. Install
it? from user
and continue after it has been installed.

[Bug 1423182] Re: Gnome-flashback: No (easy) way to log out

2015-02-19 Thread Ville Ranki
I just tested, it's possible to add the User menu to panel manually and
then log out. So this is just a case of bad default configuration. Do
you know which package handles that?

[Bug 1423182] [NEW] Gnome-flashback: No (easy) way to log out

2015-02-18 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

I just installed Ubuntu 14.10 and Cinnamon desktop. Cinnamon fails
(another issue) and starts Gnome-flashback as a fallback desktop.

The default Gnome has only Applications and Places menu and no way to
log out or restart the computer.

Workaround is to start a terminal and reboot the computer from it.

[Bug 1423182] Re: Gnome-flashback: No (easy) way to log out

2015-02-18 Thread Ville Ranki
The fallback desktop should be easily usable by non-skilled users and
currently it is not. This is not a bug but bad default configuration.
Perhaps it would be a solution if gnome-session-flashback would depend
on indicator-applet and any other packages possibly needed.

[Bug 1323276] [NEW] Rhythmbox UI lagging in actually_add_monitor

2014-05-26 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

1. Launch rhythmbox, it works nicely for 15-30 mins
2. At some point RB's UI becomes very sluggish. For example changing song may
take 15-30 seconds.

This happens every time i run RB so it's easily reproducable.

I investigated it a bit, and seems that the UI thread is blocked in
actually_add_monitor. Full

[Bug 495458] Re: preview windows is displayed as garbish

2014-01-23 Thread Ville Ranki
After 4 years this is still happening in Saucy. I suppose nobody is
maintaining XSane. Whitis's workaround works.

[Bug 959492] Re: easytag crashed with SIGSEGV in taglib_tag_title()

2014-01-22 Thread Ville Ranki
How about upgrading the Ubuntu package to latest version (2.1.9)? This
prevents normal use of Easytag.

[Bug 959492] Re: easytag crashed with SIGSEGV in taglib_tag_title()

2014-01-22 Thread Ville Ranki
Also upgrading easytag to 2.1.8 (trusty version) and taglib to 1.9.1-2
did not solve the issue.

Finally i built easytag 2.1.9 from git sources and it has the issue
fixed.

2.1.8 does NOT solve the issue so i'd suggest packaging 2.1.9 for
trusty.

[Bug 775702] Re: Some menu icons missing in Inkscape since upgrade to 11.04

2014-01-17 Thread Ville Ranki
It's sad that this bug still exists after 3 years. On Saucy with
Cinnamon desktop the icons are not displayed (no missing icon shown).
Perhaps it's time to remove appmenu.
