[Bug 1826648] [NEW] cupds crashes with core dump
Public bug reported: At home my cupsd daemon crashes all the time. Sometimes I'm able to print a few pages but in most cases it ends-up restarting and sending tons of crap to my printer resulting in multiple wasted pages with non-sense characters printed on it. I ended-up manually creating a core dump by launching it from root with: # cupsd -f -c /etc/cups/cupsd.conf (will attach core in post) I tried using the default drivers for my printer then using the Samsung provided ones with same result. My printer is a Samsung C460W. Here is the systemd status: $ sudo systemctl status cups ● cups.service - CUPS Scheduler Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/cups.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled) Active: failed (Result: core-dump) since Sat 2019-04-27 09:49:09 EDT; 12min ago Docs: man:cupsd(8) Process: 15292 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/cupsd -l (code=dumped, signal=ABRT) Main PID: 15292 (code=dumped, signal=ABRT) avr 27 09:49:01 eclipse systemd[1]: Started CUPS Scheduler. avr 27 09:49:02 eclipse cupsd[15292]: free(): invalid pointer avr 27 09:49:02 eclipse systemd[1]: cups.service: Main process exited, code=dumped, status=6/ABRT avr 27 09:49:09 eclipse systemd[1]: cups.service: Failed with result 'core-dump'. avr 27 09:49:09 eclipse systemd[1]: Stopped CUPS Scheduler. I wasn't able to find the core dump it refers to so that's why I ended- up generating one by invoking cupsd manually then launching ubuntu-bug against the cups package. [Bug 1624317] Re: systemd-resolved breaks VPN with split-horizon DNS
Same here. Issue still on going with zesty 17.04 and quite painfull to deal with. [Bug 1624320] Re: systemd-resolved appends 127.0.0.53 to resolv.conf alongside existing entries
>From the man page systemd-resolve can run in 3 mode of operations. 1) Ubuntu 17.10 default - The default is to list the 127.0.0.53 DNS stub (see above) as only DNS server. This file may be symlinked from /etc/resolv.conf in order to connect all local clients that bypass local DNS APIs to systemd-resolved. This mode of operation is recommended. 2) WHAT YOU WANT: systemd-resolved maintains the /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf file for compatibility with traditional Linux programs. This file may be symlinked from /etc/resolv.conf and is always kept up-to-date, containing information about all known DNS servers 3) PRE-17.04: Alternatively, /etc/resolv.conf may be managed by other packages, in which case systemd-resolved will read it for DNS configuration data. In this mode of operation systemd-resolved is consumer rather than provider of this configuration file. The fix: root@localhost:~# ls -la /etc/resolv.conf lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 mar 7 20:20 /etc/resolv.conf -> ../run/resolvconf/resolv.conf root@localhost:~# rm -f /etc/resolv.conf root@localhost:~# ln -s /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf root@localhost:~# ls -la /etc/resolv.conf lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 32 mar 8 07:30 /etc/resolv.conf -> /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf Finally firefox started working properly along with all my command line tools... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1624320 Title: systemd-resolved appends 127.0.0.53 to resolv.conf alongside existing entries To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1624320/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1414010] Re: wifi problem
I've been having this issue since I've bought my laptop. No issue at all using windows. Connection drops every now and then on linux (ubuntu) and android (4.4r2 using 3.18 kernel as well). Also can now always reproduce when rebooting from android-x86 to ubuntu where the connection simply won't activate at all with tons of syslog errors! I first tought it was mainly due to sleep/resume but it's totally unreleated. I now presume the interface need a some sort of full reset at reboot or is badly re-initialized after reboot. Even then at cold boot the connection eventually drops as well. Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard Product Name: HP Split 13 x2 PC (HP Split 13-m110ca x2 PC) Two issues: 1- badly re-initialized after reboot resulting with not being able to activate wifi connection resulting in a need for full shutdown + cold-boot (rebooting from android-x86 to ubuntu does that) 2- connection drops often even after cold-boot Issue still on-going with 3.19 Maybie related to #1360969 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1414010 Title: wifi problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1414010/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1183392] Re: package grub-pc 2.00-14ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
between 12.04 up to 14.10 the grub update process being invoked at every kernel upgrades eventually disapeared... Note that I did had to boot using live cd image at multiple occasions and force reinstall of either grub or kernel on my system (after having done multiple manual bind- mount over dev, proc and others so the dpkg process works ok). Now all kernel updates works flawlessly. I could potentially reproduce by reinstalling 12.04/12.10 and re-upgrade but i don't whish to go that route. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1183392 Title: package grub-pc 2.00-14ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1183392/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 884628] Re: Cannot login using SIPE, working in pidgin though
I think I have found all related info on this bug... it's actually being caused by empathy not asking to accept the CA certificate at connection time. Therefore you need to have a local copy of your(s) OC server(s) certificate(s). Here is my starting point, more specifically comment #19 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=754395#c19 That eventually leads to: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=579116#c3 Which interestingly relates as well to an existing launchpad but: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/telepathy-haze/+bug/417432 WORKAROUND: I ended-up finally being able to resolve the issue, hopefully for good! I did the following (found from a previous post on redhat bugzilla): openssl s_client -showcerts -connect MY_OFFICE_OC_SERVER_FQDN:sip-tls I've copied the certificate portion to a file named MY_OFFICE_OC_SERVER_FQDN.pem in /usr/share/purple/ca-certs. The relevant info was such as below. Note that I was having two certificates being offerred therefore in the file I also have the related header such as:: 0 s:/DC=aa/DC=bb/DC=cc/DC=dd/CN=blabla i:/C=XX/O=OfficeName/CN=blablaRootCA -BEGIN CERTIFICATE- blabla -END CERTIFICATE- 1 s:/DC=aa/DC=bb/DC=cc/DC=dd/CN=blabla i:/C=XX/O=OfficeName/CN=blablaRootCA -BEGIN CERTIFICATE- blabla -END CERTIFICATE- And voilà! Now only need empathy to do that automagically. ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #754395 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=754395 ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #579116 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=579116 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/884628 Title: Cannot login using SIPE, working in pidgin though To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/884628/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1361290] Re: hard time with wifi connection after suspend/resume
I finally ended-up being able to test a 3.17 mainline kernel (as rc1-2 had issues with the touchscreen). [Bug 1361290] [NEW] hard time with wifi connection after suspend/resume
Public bug reported: I have to say that since I upgraded to 14.10 I've been having tons of problems with my wifi. Some of them seemed to be related to network- manager while in some other cases not... I've noticed the following entries in dmesg after suspend/resume which happend at the same time as my wifi was having hard time to allow me viewing web pages or apt-get commands being really really really slow. [Bug 1312489] Re: [HP Split 13-m110ca x2 PC] Touchpad not working
From what I read, paulravin, you are not using the 3.15-rc5+ kernel as available at (use latest even if aimed at utopic dist): http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D I am using that since a few weeks already. Once the patch is being backported to ubuntu 14.04 default kernel (so called cherrypick for 3.13) it will then become fonctionnal by default using the regular ubuntu packages. As a side note the official mainline patch is here (which hopefully will be backported to default ubuntu): https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=2f433083e854ec72c19dc9b0e1cebcc8e230fd75 And there cannot really be any offending commit since basically no code is involved. +1 ;) Seriously, there is no reason why, when flushing disk cache through reboot -f, makes grub being corrupted afterwards. [Bug 1051280] Re: reboot into grub prompt after system update
The following is equivalent to yanking out the power cord: echo 1 /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq echo b /proc/sysrq-trigger AFAIK not reboot -f. Now, it's not like reboot -f had been triggerred at the millisecond where th update-grub or kernel upgrade process has been completed... or used in conjunction with a apt-get dist-upgrade -f reboot -f... really, NO! actually, many minutes went by. I feel like we are feeding the trolls now... so nevermind, plain simple, keep it as invalid, lets not fix that and simply keep it for documentation sake. Eventually somebody else will find and fix the real root-cause through another bug entry and perhaps even refer to this one. [Bug 1051280] Re: reboot into grub prompt after system update
Today I updated the kernel to 3.5.0-18-generic and resulted into a grub rescue again with a message ELF smaller than expected. Again, booted using the live-cd (old 11.10 version), ensure to have network access through the GUI then hit CTRL-ALT-F1 to get to a shell then did the following (with /dev/pts this time..) sudo -s mount -t xfs /dev/sda3 /mnt mount -o bind /dev /mnt/dev mount -o bind /dev/pts /mnt/dev/pts mount -o bind /proc /mnt/proc mount -o bind /sys /mnt/sys chroot /mnt Reinstalling the linux* packages from the /var/cache/apt/archives did not worked. Neither did the reinstallation of the grub packages... What finally worked: apt-get purge grub-pc grub-common rm -fr /boot/grub apt-get update apt-get install grub-pc grub-common --- selected only my /dev/sda drive for installation, and not my / partition /dev/sda3 exit (from chroot) umount everything properly (really usefull? not sure...) umount /mnt/dev/pts umount /mnt/sys umount /mnt/proc umount /mnt/dev umount /mnt reboot -f and voilà! finally got a working grub and being able to boot. Hoping that totally purging + stripping out the /boot/grub directory will solve my problem once and for good... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1051280 Title: reboot into grub prompt after system update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1051280/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1051280] Re: reboot into grub prompt after system update
I now presume there are two bugs, most probably related... 1- Failure to reconfigure grub properly OR update the init image when invoked through regular apt process. I cannot tell for sure but, if I only apply a kernel update using dist-upgrade it seems to work ok but when there are a lot of pending updates and some of them requires to either update-initrd or update-grub (can't tell), i get a grub rescue prompt with: error: ELF header smaller than expected. 2- Failure to apply grub update: Yesterday there where a few updates but nothing noticable such as a kernel upgrade. Although there was a grub update comming in. After rebooting I got this error in a grub rescue prompt: error: invalid arch-independant ELF magic. The exact same problem had happend the night before and curiously enough it matches the apt cache dir content. [Bug 803858] Re: No language chooser on login screen in LightDM
Sadly, it is really anoying of not having this option set default... Here's a good reason for hat: At my office, for multiple reasons, we are using KDE into our operational environment. We have a full french/english setup and KDE allows to switch between both languages perfectly fine BUT: There is no way to force GTK applications to also run in the language choosen by the user unless it internally has specific options for it. Therefore, if the system wide language is set to english, french users will have to manually set the language into OpenOffice (since it does have such option) while they will have to be stuck with an english firefox gimp mostly every other gtk apps. Same goes the other way around... Since the user using the desktop is never the same each day, the language varies depending of who's sitting at that specific desk all the time. So we are stuck at having one of the two languages not fully functional. How can I properly get around this issue without having a language chooser at the login screen that will set all background locales properly at login time? For this specific reason I am strongly suggesting for a return of this option into GDM as it was default and working well in previous ubuntu releases up until this is finally set by default into lightdm: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gdm/+bug/1015114 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/803858 Title: No language chooser on login screen in LightDM To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/803858/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1051280] [NEW] reboot into grub prompt after system update
Public bug reported: Every time I do a system update, the alter reboot ends-up into a grub prompt like if grub configuration was not available. I first tought that this was only happening when upgrading the kernel but no, it does also happend at other times as well. I don't know what package it is related to, I presume it's a grub2 problem invoke by another package needing to call update-grub but can't tell yet? It started doing this around 1-2 months ago durring early snapshots of 12.10 (upgraded from 12.04 to it). This morning i noticed the upgrade to grub2 and i was hoping this would be fixed but no, it happend again. In order to fix the problem I use the live DVD from where I CTRL-ALT-F1 into command prompt then: I mount my / partition mount -t xfs /dev/sda3 /mnt mount everything else required for update-grub2: mount -o bind /dev /mnt/dev mount -o bind /proc /mnt/proc mount -o bind /sys /mnt/sys Then update grub: update-grub2 Note that a the last 2-3 updates (of more than 100+ packages) I manually invoked update-grub2 right after, with no result beside getting a grub prompt at reboot. Other cases (where I would not be invoking manual grub update after reboot) there would be a proper grub greeter with choices but the kernel would panic at boot time... although this kernel had not been updated in days?!?! ** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1051280 Title: reboot into grub prompt after system update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1051280/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 987761] Re: precise-server-i386 installation hangs upon retrying the auto network configuration
Having similar problem. Extending the waiting time for DHCP netcfg/dhcp_timeout=120 (installation option) or ensure portfast is activated on the gigabit swtich will ensure dhcp works out properly. Otherwhise this happends on my x86_64 arch in both virtual and physical environments.
