[Bug 1698656] Re: navigation panel icons missing on standard install of 17.04

2020-12-02 Thread Vincenzoml
Still present in 20.10.

The proposed workaround works for me:

1) sudo apt install qt5ct oxygen-icon-theme

2) run qt5ct, select oxygen icon theme, apply.

[Bug 1717481] Re: Playing videos has scrambled colours in various applications, but not all applications, both with xorg and wayland

[Bug 1368716] [NEW] No sound from zita-a2j in ubuntu 14.10

2014-09-12 Thread Vincenzoml
Public bug reported:

I used to run zita-a2j in ubuntu 14.04 just fine. In ubuntu 14.10, I
start the program and see a jack connection port, but no audio passes
through (I hear no sound, e.g., when connecting system input to system
output). Using the same argument, the alsa_in tool (which does the same
thing as zita-a2j, with worse precision) works nice.

[Bug 1297790] Re: Unknown audio device dialog pops up every time I plug in headphones

2014-05-16 Thread Vincenzoml
This is a usability bug. It is terribly annoying to have to click on a
dialog when plugging in headphones; I plug in headphones every time I
turn on my laptop, and that additional click defeats the just works
feeling of ubuntu. There may be technical reasons to pop that dialog
out, but this is not a good end user experience.

[Bug 1297790] Re: Unknown audio device dialog pops up every time I plug in headphones

2014-05-16 Thread Vincenzoml
For those who really want to get rid of the dialog in the meantime, here
is what I did in order to quick-fix my own system. I made a simple hack,
and followed the steps listed here to rebuild the unity-settings-daemon
package

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpdatingADeb

The hack (to be done in place of the patch -p1 step in the guide) is
to disable the new functionality; I did this in a possibly very
inappropriate way, please don't blame me too much. I edited the file
unity-settings-daemon-14.04.0+14.04.20140414/plugins/media-keys/what-
did-you-plug-in/dialog-window.c and added return 0; as the very first
line of the function wdypi_dialog_run. There may be better ways.

My two cents on the solution is to chose a fallback, issue a
notification, and allow the user to configure the default behaviour in
the audio settings. That would be less in the way.

[Bug 812728] Re: [oneiric] Optionally hide user name in panel

2011-10-19 Thread Vincenzoml
The package is now named dconf-tools I guess. It would be lovely if
these options could be set based on the percentage of the panel that
stays free: a netbook easily becomes unusable; there is too few space
for the application menus in oneiric by default. Let me know if this is
not already into consideration, then I could open a bug report or a
feature request or whatever is appropriate.

Re: [Bug 745304] Re: Graphics corruption after hibernate with Intel GMA 3150 chipset

2011-07-11 Thread Vincenzoml
2011/7/9 sasha1024 745...@bugs.launchpad.net:
Just as a notice: the described problem can be workaround by doing sleep
(aka standby aka in-memory-suspend) after resuming from hibernation.

I.e. the system is restored from hibernation, the screen is broken (only
the right 1/10 of the screen works). Then press Ctrl+Alt+F2, type your
login, Enter, type your password, Enter, type sudo pm-suspend, Enter
(then your password again and Enter again if your sudo is configured to
ask password), wait until it falls asleep, then move your mouse to wake
it up -- and VOILA -- the screen now works ok.

VOILA does not describe the process :) However, one can just close
and reopen the laptop screen to achieve the same effect, that's much
easier than logging into a console.

OTOH, I know these comments don't help but... is there any hope to see
this regression fixed in natty? It had been promised that it would
have been quick, it's three months already, over six.

[Bug 762604] [NEW] hibernate on eeepc 1005HA (intel 945 video) broken in natty, worked in maverick, was fixed one week ago, broken again today

2011-04-16 Thread Vincenzoml
Public bug reported:

I am running natty. When I first installed the alpha hibernate was
broken (video garbled, I'll attach a video) but I could not report the
problem. Then recently (I'd say two weeks ago, so around 1st of april
2011) it was fixed by updates. However after that something bad and
unrelated happened and I reinstalled from a daily live. The problem is
again there as of 16th of april.

The problem is that the display is garbled, no characters are visible
but what appear to be random pixel lines. It's so even in the consoles
(ctrl+alt+fn).

In the attached video you can see the problem. First, I am on the locked
screen after hibernate. Then I enter my password. As you can see the
computer is perfectly working but video is garbled. I can click on the
shutdown menu and all the rest. In the third part of the video I switch
to a virual console and press enter repeatedly. What can be seen is a
series of white messed-up pixels where white console text lines should
be.

[Bug 743049] Re: Suggested applications should show description in a tooltip

2011-03-28 Thread Vincenzoml
Thanks. Thinking of my proposed solution, it would be annoying to tablet
users. A simpler one is just to add another button e.g. saying see the
suggested applications in software center that just... does what it
says.

[Bug 743049] [NEW] Suggested applications should show description in a tooltip

2011-03-26 Thread Vincenzoml
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

I file this as a bug, but if you think it should be a suggestion I'll
post it to brainstorm. I see it as a bug especially because it has a
simple solution: in unity I can see proposed applications in the
applications menu. They're great, they look attactive, but the names are
often uninformative. I then fear to click on them, since launching
software-center on a netbook is a heavy process, and also because if I
click on one, the other ones disappear.

Just adding the description of each package in a tooltip (maybe with the
screenshot too) would solve the problem. I could then move my mouse from
one icon to another and learn what things are. To get more information
or install I could then go to the software center.

** Affects: unity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 631088] Re: Incompatibilty with Windows font Deja Vu Sans 9.9990234375 makes evince menu unreadable

2011-03-25 Thread Vincenzoml
I don't have windows at all but I have a bug with the very same
symptoms: boxes instead of letters in evince. This came after a recent
upgrade to natty. I don't know where to look at, but I have some ms
fonts installed (I think this comes from some restricted-extras
package).

[Bug 631088] Re: Incompatibilty with Windows font Deja Vu Sans 9.9990234375 makes evince menu unreadable

2011-03-25 Thread Vincenzoml
Finally, I don't have the above mentioned link in my home directory at
all, and unistalling the packages ttf-dejavu-core and ttf-dejavu-extra
does not help. Let me know if I should file a separate bug.

[Bug 580300] Re: IMAP not able to fetch messages

2011-03-24 Thread Vincenzoml
I am testing natty. Please, this is urgent. Evolution does not work AT
ALL with gmail and imap. One gets random errors related to unable to
fetch messages, and then non-standard headers are displayed, like if
the message parser would consider non-standard e-mail headers as a show-
stopper for fetching the body. Please could you just make imap+ the
default for gmail? Otherwise milions of users will trash evolution and
possibly ubuntu saying that it does not work.

Just my 2 cents. Please prioritize this bug and look into it.

** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu)

[Bug 733312] Re: Natty: missing notification area

2011-03-13 Thread Vincenzoml
Marco, thanks for sharing this extremely useful information. I find it
completely pointless that this configuration option is not advertised
during alpha testing. Also: the dropbox people should be contacted (even
if I am ready to bet that no ubuntu bigs will do that).
