[Bug 1617502] [NEW] PCmanfm thumbnails cpu-load and privacy

2016-08-26 Thread Wilfried
Public bug reported:

Wile thumbnails can be helpful and cute, they can also pose a privacy
issue. (Parents can use it to spy on their kids damaging the privacy at
a very early stage)

Also when a folder has a lot of files then the tumbnailer gobbles up
performance at a moment when you need the performance to simply get your
work done. and thumbnails popping up, refreshing the entire folder
thumbnail after thumbnail... It kinda sucks when you are browsing for a
file to edit a tutorial...

Maybe just limit the thumbnail functionality to /Videos /Documents and
/Pictures with an option for users to add more locations.

But for privacy reasons I would personally prefer to have this option turner
OFF by default.
And if LXDE's focus is on Lightweight performance then it also makes sense to
turn it OFF by default.

And maybe make a /.thumbnails inside the folder that the thumbnails
belong to, so that the thumbnails will be deleted when a older is
deleted, cleaning up the thumbnails instead of having a bag of rusty old
nails in one bucket.

Thumbnails are not bad, but the way they are implemented might be
improved a bit.

It's not a security issue but it is a privacy issue. Maibe if
/.thumbnails makes shots of potential confidential .doc or .pdf that it
still may bea security issue?

Live CD switches to 640x480 and displays at 1280x480 all garbled up

Re: [Bug 1294689] Re: Firefox doesn't use dolphin to open download directory

Am 14.01.2015 um 08:56 schrieb Uqbar:
 It's clear that either none is paying attention to this or none is able to
 apply an existing fix.
 The fix is to edit /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache (as root) and to
 make it like this:

 inode/directory=kde4-dolphin.desktop;

 That's it.

That's it - until the next install/deinstall/update a softwarepaket. May
be it would have been useful to read my comment from 2014-12-22,
especially folowing part:

 Everey update triggering /var/lib/dpkg/info/desktop-file-utils.postinst
 created /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache from completely scratch.
 No changes by hand survived. Applications got sorted alphbetically in
 each line again.

Questions?

[Bug 1294689] Re: Firefox doesn't use dolphin to open download directory

2014-12-22 Thread Wilfried Essig
Kubuntu 14.04, all updates till today (2014-12-22):
Had same problem, but with audacious comming up, instead of dolphin.
Deinstalled Audacious. Then Gwenview came up instead.

After some searching i found, that firefox is using
/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache from desktop-file-utils. This was
line for inode/directory :

inode/directory=audacious.desktop;kde4-gwenview.desktop;kde4-dolphin.desktop;kde4-kfmclient_dir.desktop;

Same Problem for pdf, getting gimp instead of okular:
application/pdf=gimp.desktop;kde4-okularApplication_pdf.desktop;

Editing by hand, showed, that ff used always the first entry of this for
directory. Same Problem with  line
application/pdf=kde4-okularApplication_pdf.desktop;gimp.desktop;

Everey update triggering /var/lib/dpkg/info/desktop-file-utils.postinst
created /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache from completely scratch.
No changes by hand survived. Applications got sorted alphbetically in
each line again.

Ugly (but system wide) solution for me now : I added some lines in
/var/lib/dpkg/info/desktop-file-utils.postinst, after update-desktop-database
-q :
---
set -x
grep -v application/pdf=\|inode/directory\|MIME Cache
/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache.xx
cat /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache.willi.kopf
/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
cat /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache.willi
/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache.xx
sort /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache.xx
/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
rm /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache.xx
set +x
---

I can repair that for my family and the school i'm supporting, but I
consider that very annoying especially for unexperienced users. Please
get that repaired.

[Bug 311248] [NEW] system randomly freezes for few minutes

2008-12-24 Thread Wilfried van Hulzen
Public bug reported:

At unpredictable times, not related to load or activity and therefore
untraceable to a package, the system completely freezes. This results in screen
freeze, seeminly not responsing to keyboard or mouse, unavailability of shares
for samba client. Recently I discovered that after (very approximately) 5
minutes the system becomes available again, showing a backtrace in
/var/log/messages, log fragments are attached to the problem report.
Recently upgraded from release 7.10 to 8.10. Problem existed in 7.10 already,

First I think it isn't an xserver bug as I thoght first. Because in the system
logs there weren't any --MARK-- lines.
Also this error didn't happen since the HAL update. I don't if the HAL update
fixes this problem or my BIOS flash.
To your questions: It happend totally randomly.
/usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg-core/script
returns only:

[Bug 90398] zoph: importing images does not work

2007-03-07 Thread Wilfried Horn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: zoph

As default images are uploaded to a directory that is named after the current
date. If it does not yet exist zoph tries to create it using the function
create_dir_recursive.
That fails to check wether part of the path of the to be created directory
exists and tries to create every directory starting from /. Since that exists
mkdir returns an error and the directory is actually NOT created for which the
upload fails. Replacing the function create_dir_recursive by

function create_dir_recursive($directory){
  foreach(split('/',$directory) as $subdir) {
$nextdir=$nextdir$subdir/;
if(!is_dir($nextdir)) {
  if(!create_dir($nextdir))  {
echo Error creating: $nextdir br;
return 0;
  }
}
  }
  return 1;
}

has worked for me.

Thanks!

Wilfried

[Bug 90137] zip import in zoph doesn't work

2007-03-06 Thread Wilfried Horn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: zoph

In import.inc.php the create_dir function returns false even if it
succeded to create a directory and therefore the script dies without
reason. The following diff of import.inc.php worked for me:

138c138
 return 0;
---
 return 1;
142c142
 return -1;
---
 return 0;

Cheers!

Wilfried
