[Bug 1883847] [NEW] Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 failed

2020-06-17 Thread Damien Cooke
Public bug reported:

Calculating the changes

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This was caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
This is most likely a transient problem,
please try again later.
If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If
you want to investigate this yourself the log files in
'/var/log/dist-upgrade' will contain details about the upgrade.
Specifically, look at 'main.log' and 'apt.log'.

[Bug 1822394] Re: [Dell BIOSes dated 27 Mar 2019] laptop keyboard & touchpad not working at gdm screen after boot

2019-09-27 Thread Bryn Cooke
It's worth mentioning that even with the downgraded bios the mouse
cursor frequently gets stuck requiring a screen flex to fix.

In addition the downgraded bios exposes similar sticking on Windows. So
I can only imagine that resolving this was the purpose of the bios
update in the first place.

Once updated to the latest bios cursor behaviour is good on Windows.

[Bug 1845570] Re: Ubuntu OEM Slide Show has the Disco background

2019-09-27 Thread Will Cooke
I did the OEM install in Virtualbox, and I see the E mascot and updated E
screenshots. Closing this as invalid, but if I'm missing something please let
me know.
I suspect this was spotted because the "photos" screenshot uses a photo from D,
where the E wallpapers were not available at the time of creating. However,
you should notice that the Music slideshow is update to represent current world
events.

The error message suggests that it might be casper which has crashed,

[Bug 1845198] [NEW] GNOME Shell seemingly locked up at login

2019-09-24 Thread Will Cooke
Public bug reported:

In 19.10, and also running the X PPA from
http://ppa.launchpad.net/canonical-x/x-staging/ubuntu

When I logged in (after having attached a Bluetooth speaker in order to
test if it was being reconnected correctly) GNOME Shell isn't responding
to mouse or keyboard input.

The clock continues to tell the right time, and the mouse moves around
the screen and is repainted correctly.

[Bug 1845188] [NEW] Ubuntu 19.10 Community Wallpapers

2019-09-24 Thread Will Cooke
Public bug reported:

Attached are the winning entries from the wallpaper competition for
19.10 (minus one where the artists didn't reply to my emails).

These have been resized (and where needed cropped) to 3840 x 2160.

I've put them all through Squoosh. Most are JPGs, but one is a PNG, the
gradients didn't respond well to being JPGed. I have tried to keep the
size below 500k where ever I can, but in some cases it has gone over in
order to keep the quality acceptable.

Total size of the wallpapers is 5.6MB.

It's possible that this is related to the Mutter fix from last week which

[Bug 1844643] [NEW] [UIFe] Change default theme to Yaru Ambience variant

2019-09-19 Thread Will Cooke
Public bug reported:

We've made a decision to ship the new Yaru themes light and dark as
options in EE, not as the default.

The default will actually be "Yaru Ambience" which is a very similar
visual style to the traditional dark window header bars as in Disco.
This will preserve the traditional look of the Ubuntu desktop for 19.10.

There is a minor bug in Yaru Ambience which is being worked on right now
(limited to GNOME Boxes and Videos) but I am filing this bug now in
order to try and land the new changes as soon as that bug is fixed.

The upshot of this change is that screenshots made since UI freeze could
now look wrong when using the default theme. However, screenshots from
previous Ubuntu releases will look more similar to 19.10.

[Bug 1843899] Re: gnome-shell calendar widget is not centered on the screen

2019-09-17 Thread Will Cooke
Closing as wontfix. We won't fix this for release. The alternative
would mean that the clock wouldn't be centered with half-tiled windows.
The clock is centered on the workspace.

[Bug 1844137] [NEW] Battery icon in top bar looks "red" when battery is not low

2019-09-16 Thread Will Cooke
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 19.10 the battery icon in the top bar looks red (actually it's
orange rgb(245,121,62)) even when the battery is full, e.g. 99%.

The orange colour makes it look like a warning that the battery is low.

[Bug 1844130] [NEW] Preview not show when clicking on dock icon where 2 or more windows are open

2019-09-16 Thread Will Cooke
Public bug reported:

Observed behaviour:
In Eoan when clicking on an application icon on the dock where there are two or
more windows doesn't open the preview. This is how it worked in D for example.

Expected behaviour:
Click on an icon in the dock where two or more windows are open should open the
preview showing the mini versions of the available windows.

[Bug 1841744] [NEW] Drop fwupdate from the archive from E

2019-08-28 Thread Will Cooke
Public bug reported:

Further to this bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fwupdate/+bug/1787254

We can now move forward and remove fwupdate from the archive. The new
tool fwupd replaces fwupdate, and fwupdate is now seen as legacy.

This won't have any effect on the ability to update firmware etc, the
tooling all uses fwupdmgr.

I would like to get Mario's +1 on this bug report before we proceed and
to make sure that my assertions are correct.

[Bug 1837437] [NEW] disk content permanently lost when changing LUKS password

2019-07-22 Thread Will Cooke
Public bug reported:

This is fixed upstream. Logging this bug to track the fix in to Ubuntu.

>From the upstream bug:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=928893

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

Install system using normal full disk encryption LUKS+Ext4.
After install open gnome-disk-utility and change
encryption password. It gives some error dialog and
now you are royally screwed. It deleted the only
LUKS keyslot. Cannot add new keyslots because of that.
All data will be lost after reboot.

Here is output of luksdump:

udo cryptsetup luksDump /dev/sda5
LUKS header information
Version:2
Epoch: 4
Metadata area: 16384 [bytes]
Keyslots area: 1678 [bytes]

Tokens:
Digests:
  0: pbkdf2
Hash: sha256

Salt: XX XX XX XX XX

I changed salt and digest. No Keyslots are present!!!

I tried this 2 times in a row with new install,
exactly same result.

[Bug 1833277] Re: LIvepatch widget should link to secure boot information on error

2019-07-01 Thread Will Cooke
We dont need to worry about 19.10 as Livepatches aren't produced for
non-LTS releases.

I think we need to do some research in to how to best detect if
Secureboot is enabled or not. If we can do that without too much bother
we /could/ look at that setting, and at the error text produced by the
livepatch cli and tie the two together. That feels a bit clunky though.
I'll ask whoever is going to work on this to comment here.

We can now open that URL for users when they click on /something/.
Either the bubble or the "More info" link from Software & Updates. I've
ask mpt to take a look at the design.
