I had the same problem since 4.9.0-4-amd64 Recently I updated the kernel to version 4.14.0-3-amd64 and now everything works as it should. [Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system
Fresh install from the kubuntu alternate install cd. I can both confirm the issue with the nvidia-driver and konsole/gnome terminal as well as confirm the --notransparency workaround working.
