I am attaching bold-arabic.odt, which has two Arabic words in bold that

apport-collect gets stuck, most likely because it is being run behind a

[Bug 899841] [NEW] Blank screen on booting Ubuntu 11.10 from RAID

2011-12-04 Thread Youssef Eldakar
Public bug reported:

I run a network of machines each having 4 hard drives. Most are
installed as JBOD (just a bunch of disks), but some are installed as
RAID, where / is on a RAID1 device. After upgrading to 11.10, the RAID
machines display a blank screen right at the beginning of the boot
process and stop there - most of the time. The system does respond to
Ctrl+Alt+Del at that state, and, every once in a while after many
successive reboots, the system does boot successfully. I tested this on
two different hardware configurations (nVidia chipset and Intel chipset)
and with both 64- and 32-bit Ubuntu with no difference in results. The
JBOD machines do not suffer from this issue.

Turning off modesetting does not seem to help. Given that the non-RAID
(jBOD) setup works fine, I am thinking the issue is probably a GRUB+RAID
issue, not a graphics issue. I noticed in 11.10 that /boot/grub/grub.cfg
uses mduuid/* as opposed to md/*. Could that have something to do with
the problem? I wonder if there is a preseed configuration to instruct
grub-installer to use md/* instead of mduuid/*.

[Bug 886474] [NEW] Poor audio quality with ffcook

2011-11-05 Thread Youssef Eldakar
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 11.10 (libavcodec-extra-53 4:0.7.2.1ubuntu1),
audio quality during playback of FFmpeg COOK streams (ffcook), found in
RealMedia files, is poor as a buzz is present during the full length of
the stream. This is a regression since Ubuntu 11.04, where FFmpeg COOK
streams played back with good audio quality.

FFmpeg Sipr/Acelp.net streams (ffsipr), also found in RealMedia files,
are not affected.

[Bug 743136] Re: grub2 fails to install on md0

2011-08-17 Thread Youssef Eldakar
The simplest workaround I could come up with for getting grub-installer
to succeed with RAID devices on Natty was:

d-i grub-installer/skip boolean true
d-i lilo-installer/skip boolean true

d-i preseed/late_command string ln -s ../md0 /dev/md/0; grub-installer
/target

[Bug 743136] Re: grub2 fails to install on md0

2011-08-11 Thread Youssef Eldakar
Is this supposed to be fixed in Natty? I am using a standard partman-
auto-raid/recipe in a preseeded Natty install and am running into the
same issue:

d-i partman-auto-raid/recipe string \
1 2 0 jfs / \
/dev/sda5#/dev/sdc5 \
.\
0 4 0 swap - \
/dev/sda6#/dev/sdb6#/dev/sdc6#/dev/sdd6 \
.\
1 2 0 jfs /usr \
/dev/sda7#/dev/sdc7 \
.\
5 4 0 jfs /var \
/dev/sda8#/dev/sdb8#/dev/sdc8#/dev/sdd8 \
.\
0 4 0 jfs /tmp \
/dev/sda9#/dev/sdb9#/dev/sdc9#/dev/sdd9 \
.\
5 4 0 jfs /srv \
/dev/sda1#/dev/sdb1#/dev/sdc1#/dev/sdd1 \
.

Symlinking /dev/md0 to /dev/md/0 before running the grub-install seems
to get it to succeed.

I am sorry if this is not the appropriate place for this comment.

[Bug 558569] Re: Unable start as live cd Lucid Beta 2

2010-07-19 Thread Youssef Eldakar
I, too, am experiencing trouble with Ubuntu 10.04 with a 2.6.32-21
-generic-based installer on:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8623 [Apollo
CLE266] integrated CastleRock graphics (rev 03)

I am doing a text mode netboot install and not setting up X. The
installer is unusable with distorted broken dialogs and unreadable font.
I tried booting the kernel with video=vga16fb:off,viafb:off, but that
did not fix the broken screen.

I understand this is still an open issue, but I am at least looking for
a workaround to be able to netinstall machines in text mode.

[Bug 232469] Re: wget does not use network proxy in some cases

I am running Lucid behind a non-transparent proxy. I was experiencing
the same issue of wget not working in postinst scripts while installing
packages, but I was able to get it to work by setting http_proxy in
/etc/wgetrc. I would love to fix this bug, but I am confused as to which
is the culprit: postinst scripts, wget, apt-get, gnome-terminal, gnome-
control-center, or something else.
