[Bug 1263015] [NEW] ASUS Zenbook UX302LG - black screen on boot
Public bug reported: Install via LiveUSB created with unetbootin off the saucy amd64 iso was able to be completed with nomodeset. First boot into installed system resulted in lightdm cowbell being played but a backlight on / blank screen on the display. using nomodeset on installed system results in framebuffer/console being usable - but no X able to start (cannot find screen). tried some alternative kernel options : acpi_backlight=vendor, video=1920x1080-24@60 but with same results. Tried using different kernel as per bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1195483 pinned and upgraded to trusty kernel images - slightly different result in that backlight goes down and breifly have a red screen tear in upper left of screen for several seconds before reverting to same behaviour as saucy kernel. (blanked screen, backlit, lightdm cowbell plays). [Bug 1263015] Re: ASUS Zenbook UX302LG - black screen on boot
Upstream drm-intel-next build resulted in working lightdm/screen ; http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel- nightly/2013-12-18-trusty/ ** Description changed: Install via LiveUSB created with unetbootin off the saucy amd64 iso was able to be completed with nomodeset. [Bug 1263015] Re: 8086:0a16 [ASUS Zenbook UX302LG] Black screen on boot
Unfortunately whilst I get the screen up on boot, the first time the screen is blanked either by power management, or switching a VT or standby(closing lid) - I loose the screen and need to do a reboot to get it back. Not very useful unfortunately. I have tried a couple of different 3.12 kernels mainline and zen patches - neither work (original behaviour, no screen at all). Going to try a mainline 3.13 kernel today and see if it behaves the same as the drm-intel-next -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1263015 Title: 8086:0a16 [ASUS Zenbook UX302LG] Black screen on boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1263015/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1195483] Re: [Asus ZenBook Prime UX31A] Installation, Live and Check disc do not start
Experiencing similar behaviour from zenbook ux302lg. Pinning and upgrading to trusty kernel gives me slightly different outcomes (I get a backlight down and red streak appear) before backlights up and blank screen where I hear the Cowbell of lightdm. I don't get the red tear at all with Saucy default kernel. I'LLC get an apport dump and attach soon. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1195483 Title: [Asus ZenBook Prime UX31A] Installation, Live and Check disc do not start To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1195483/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 458952] Re: [needs-packaging] ec168 DVB-T chipset drivers + firmware
I think a packaging bug/request for the firmware should be separate. The kernel option to enable the kernel specific parts and driver is simply a .config oversight on the Ubuntu Kernel maintainers behalf. This driver works well and means users with the card are having to maintain out of tree v4l-dvb kernel tree's on top of the ubuntu kernels, making their systems very unmaintainable. This is also confirmed as being present in the vanila kernel build options. Running stable under test conditions reported above with 256.52. vdpau now does not lock up computer, have not had locks ups during normal compiz enabled ubuntu-desktop settings. Switching VT's also is ok. I have not however tested with DPMS turned back on as of yet. And have not tested with Twinview. I have in the past turned off xinerama as it has caused issues for me. Will do some more testing with the .52 release over the next couple of days. [Bug 626159] [NEW] Xorg instability and freezes : nvidia-current 256.44 - amd64 and ubuntu maverick
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Hi there, latest drivers installed by either distro repo or by the installer with Ubuntu maverick fail often and regularly. Always reproducable using x264 video and vdpau output via mplayer and doing resizes ff/rwd of video. Also occurs doing simple things (open firefox/ view menu of application launcher). DPMS off makes slightly more stable although still crashes with mplayer test. Have tested against 2.6.35-17 and 2.6.35-19 maverick amd64 kernels. Have also tested with xorg-edgers ppa xorg versions but with same results as described here. System hangs, often still able to get in via network, however doing intensive things (cat large syslog ) will hang the process. Xorg and any offending triggering application cannot be killed manually. gdm restart also does not work. shutdown now and reboot will not trigger reboot. Power must be cycled. Attached are various dump I was able to obtain during a freeze. nvidia-bug report hangs during collection so may be incomplete. Also the ABI for the 256.44 drivers is out of date and needs updating, but this is a seperate issue to the general instability. Have attempted using xorg-edgers ppa with same result. Also attempted to use the 256.35 drivers but it complains of missing linux-vdso.so.1 library and X does not load. Please note that the installer log info in the nvidia bug report shows the old installer log where attempted manual install of .35 beta driver. This was removed and the dump relates to the repo supplied nvidia- current (256.44) drivers, it is valid just a little misleading at the top. [Bug 626159] Re: Xorg instability and freezes : nvidia-current 256.44 - amd64 and ubuntu maverick
Am hopeful based on this changelog: Changelog from upstream 256.52 * New upstream release. Changes since 265.44: [sic: 256.44] - Fixed a bug that prevented XvMC from initializing in most cases. - Added support for xorg-server video driver ABI version 8, which will be included in the xorg-server-1.9 series of releases. - Fixed a bug that caused extremely slow rendering of OpenGL applications on X screens other than screen 0 when using a compositing manager. - Fixed a regression introduced after 256.35 that caused stability problems on GPUs such as GeForce GT 240. - Fixed a slow kernel virtual address space leak observed when starting and stopping OpenGL, CUDA, or VDPAU applications. - Fixed a bug that left the system susceptible to hangs when running two or more VDPAU applications simultaneously. -- Xorg instability and freezes : nvidia-current 256.44 - amd64 and ubuntu maverick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/626159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 616023] Re: nVidia card : X won't start since 1.9 update, no screens found
I get frequent system hangs and kernel oops's when using the 256.44 drivers and current meerkat xorg. tried adding xorg-swat ppa, but nothing from that repo anyways except for more recent nvidia-settings package. System freezes in one of two ways: 1) X freeze and keyboard freeze ( mouse is still movable but may have screen tearing/corruption) Still able to ssh into machine, but cannot switch between virtual terminals. Shows Xorg at 100% cpu utilisation, and there is NO way to kill the xorg process. reboot and shutdown now (acpi event shutdowns) do not work any more. However I still am able to launch new processes etc. ... except for X related stuff. 2) As above but also causes complete freeze (mouse is still moveable) but networking/existing running services are become unavaialbel. Using KDE hangs are more frequent than with gnome desktop. On exit from SMplayer with vdpau seems to reliably cuase the bug. Using GT240 PCI-E card. -- nVidia card : X won't start since 1.9 update, no screens found https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/616023 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
