[Bug 434232] Re: cryptsetup prompt is overriden by upstart and xsplash in Karmic

2009-12-25 Thread af-fsfe
I am using an encrypted home partition, and I experience the same
problem as GOo in #13 _although_ I am using the bootwait option in
/etc/fstab. However, using bootwait on /home should not have any
effect anyway.

There are currently lots of bugs related to this issue, and bug reports
seem to overlap.

I have been using Ubuntu from the beta of Warty Warthog, and this is the
third release that broke my encryption setup, which is not complex at
all anyway. I know I am being unprofessional now, but this SUCKS, guys.
It really should be possible to mount an encrypted home at system boot
without months of bug-reporting. Karmic is final, is it?

[Bug 117314] Re: latest kernel(2.6.20-16.28) update gives boot problems

Same problem as dschneller: The kernel update fixed the fixed the boot problem,
but now the nvidia module fails to load.
And, hell, NO, I won't file ANOTHER bug.

I know I'm being unprofessional now, and I never thought I would. But
this is the 7th system-breaking bug in 3 months for me, and my hardware
and my system setup is not that exactly exotic. When one bug is fixed, I
run into another. Really, this SUCKS. I've been using GNU/Linux for 11
years now, but I've NEVER encountered a Distribution with that many
critical bugs.

Please do some more testing before releasing kernel updates. Feisty is

No. I'm using a passphrase, not a key file.

I guess this bug will be hard to fix, since it might overlap with other

different setups. I will try to do some more investigation.

[Bug 91405] Re: can't open crypted device since 2:1.0.4+svn26-1ubuntu1~edgy1

2007-03-14 Thread af-fsfe
As reported, the update to 1.0.4 broke my setup.

I'd like to give some more information, maybe that helps.

I had dist-upgraded my dapper system, including the crypt devices, by
using Ubuntu's update-manager.

After that, I struggled with Bug 62571
(https://launchpad.net/upstart/+bug/62751), which basically had the effect that
cryptsetup did not prompt for the passphrase at system boot.
As a workaround, I implemented a fix to /lib/cryptsetup/cryptdisks.functions,
as suggested in comments 18 and 21
(https://launchpad.net/upstart/+bug/62751/comments/18).

After that, my crypt device setup worked just like before the dist-
upgrade.

With the update to 1.0.4 it broke again.

[Bug 91405] Re: can't open crypted device since 2:1.0.4+svn26-1ubuntu1~edgy1

2007-03-11 Thread af-fsfe
I can confirm the problem. After the upgrade to 1.0.4+svn26, my crypt partition
stopped working.
When doing a ls /dev/mapper, the crypt device was not listed any more.

Finally, I downgraded to 1.0.3, which resolved the issue.

IMO, this is a highly critical issue, since is rleaves whole partitions
unfunctional.

The bug occurs to me even if there is *no* SD card present in the built-
in card reader (Ricoh R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro). It does not make a
difference.
