[Bug 870874] Re: LDAP user with automounted nfs homedir cannot login

2012-05-13 Thread Ahmed El-Mahmoudy
Regarding comment #39, where Lennart mentioned to install nscd, I'd like
to add that this solved several problems that I have at our company. The
setup here is that users login using LDAP account (but we don't use any
network FS). Since the upgrade to 12.04, some users started to complain
that Thunderbird is always crashing at startup, or that Nautilus doesn't
startup. So after installing nscd, those problems went away.

[Bug 998694] [NEW] Sync texlive-extra 2011.20120509-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2012-05-13 Thread Ahmed El-Mahmoudy
Public bug reported:

Please sync texlive-extra 2011.20120509-1 (main) from Debian unstable
(main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Merge with Debian; remaining Ubuntu changes:
- debian/control: Drop texpower from Recommends to Suggests as
it is in universe, and drags in context and xpdf.

Texpower is now shipped as part of texlive-extra, hence the change is no
  longer required.

Changelog entries since current quantal version 2011.20120424-1ubuntu1:

texlive-extra (2011.20120509-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * new upstream snapshot (Closes: #670336)
  * texpower take over
. ship the TL packages texpower and tpslifonts (formerly blacklisted)
. provide a dummy transitional package texpower
. add the necessary conflicts and depends
  * fix wrong link in README.source (Closes: #671920)
  * pdfjam take over (actually done already earlier)
. ship the TL package pdfjam
. provide a dummy transitional package pdfjam
. add the necessary conflicts and depends

when using a file browser in XFCE/Xubuntu using 12.04. I'll open the
natilus window then work in some other window and when I come back to
the nautilus window by clicking on it the window goes to the lower right
corner of the screen with the mouse pointer representing a hand.

[Bug 876007] Re: nautilus uses 100% of CPU

2012-04-26 Thread Ahmed Al-Alousi
Don't you think it's a bit reckless closing bugs and brushing them aside
like this, as if people reporting them are mere idiots. This is a
really serious bug, and only two days ago I managed to waste a complete
48 hours because of the 100% CPU usage and unresponsiveness of the
system.

You say to obtain a back trace; how on earth are you supposed to do that
when the system is simply frozen and the bug affecting not a single
package, but every single package that one can use to copy files across
- take your pick, do a large copy of either a large contiguous file or a
large number of files, and bingo you have it.

One would have thought a team with brains the size of a planet would
surely have seen this, rather than hide behind political crap that
distinguished Micro$oft and it's pile of Windoze trash. So how about
you get off of your hight horse, move those fat a***s, acknowledge the
bug and give a more meaningful answer to everyone's complaints? Bah
Humbug !!

[Bug 978807] Re: 'Cypress Trackpad' incorrectly detected as 'ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse' in 'Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook''

2012-04-17 Thread Ahmed Shams
Hi,
Their is a workaround, it is to remove and install psmouse driver, please open
your Terminal(Ctrl+Alt+T) and run:

sudo rmmod psmouse
sudo insmod /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/input/mouse/psmouse.ko

Did that work for you?

[Bug 930938] Re: Kinetic 2-finger scrolling no longer works after upgrade to 12.04

2012-04-17 Thread Ahmed Shams
Hi Chow,
Just wanted to inform you that someone(Robert Hooker) has opened a task
reporting(bug #983614) that the last changes to Property Synaptics Coasting
Speed is causing to him the Unity dash to open spuriously with on bcm5974
touchpads with xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.5.99.902-0ubuntu5. I couldn't
mark it as dup due to difference of symptoms.
Thanks and sorry for subscribing you without asking.

[Bug 972013] [NEW] Cheese doesn't start

2012-04-02 Thread Ahmed Toulan
Public bug reported:

Trying to start cheese from the terminal got this error:

(cheese:6333): Gdk-WARNING **: The program 'cheese' received an X Window System
error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
  (Details: serial 146 error_code 1 request_code 138 minor_code 66)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

2012-03-27 Thread Syed Haseeb Ahmed
Public bug reported:

I see two home folders, one being the Home folder which opens by
default and when I hit the back icon on the above right of the screen,
I am taken to the home folder (which is the correct folder). I am
unable to save any of my works because of this two home folders issue. I
just need to have one correct home folder which it should be. Any help
on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

[Bug 957956] [NEW] Blank installation screen ubuntu 11.10 on Lenovo Ideapad Z575

2012-03-17 Thread Uzair Ahmed Faisal
Public bug reported:

Trying to install Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit on Lenovo Ideapad Z575 does not
work. The installation menu is all garbled and I am unable to use the
mouse in there or even set the option for nomodeset. Can you please
ensure that Ideapads are next on your ubuntu hardware certifications
list?

Also, f# options do not show and things are overlapping - it looks as if
Ubuntu is not ready for Lenovo Ideapad?

[Bug 949878] Re: /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon hogs CPU

2012-03-13 Thread Ahmed El-Mahmoudy
Backtrace for /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon

Funny thing is that I wasn't able to attach to the process unless I used
sudo (although the process was owned by my user!!)

Another funny thing is that after detaching (or maybe that happened
after attaching), the process stopped hogging the CPU.

[Bug 943877] [NEW] Clicking an icon on the launcher, that was previously set to be Keep in launcher, duplicates the icon and the program that it runs

2012-03-01 Thread Ahmed Fakhry
Public bug reported:

If I open some applications, for example, the terminal, and then I right
click on its icon on the launcher and choose Keep In Launcher and
close the application.

When I try to reopen that application again by clicking on its icon on
the launcher, the application opens, but the icon on the launcher is
duplicated, as if there are two instances on the application are
running.

When I close that application, the duplicated icons remain on the
launcher.

If I try to open it again, another icon will be added to the launcher
making them all three icons.

I have to right-click one of those icons and remove the Keep In
Launcher option, while the program is running, and then close it, in
order for those multiple icons to disappear.

[Bug 862374] Re: login sound does not play

2012-02-27 Thread Ahmed Fakhry
The same problem occurred to me suddenly, although I'm using ubuntu 11.10 the
final release, and it's been working with me very well for the last 5 months.
Just yesterday, it stopped playing the log-in sound, and I don't know why. To
help you better identify the problem, this occurred after I had a dependency
problem with the software update, and I had to fix it using
sudo apt-get install -f

I had to follow the instructions in comment #8 in this page to make the
login sound work again.
