i hope the fix will make it to 9.04

[Bug 346840] Re: Buddy List taskbar icon shows on all virtual desktops

2009-04-09 Thread akhenaton
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 340366 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/340366

i just upgraded ibex to jackalope beta and noticed this bug
before filling a new bug-report i searched for already reported bugs on pidgin
and found this one
the description fits perfectly what i wanted to report, thus i think the bug
the author of this one reported is still present

please, fix this one; it's annoying to see the pidgin's buddy list
'button' on the taskbar present on all workspaces even if it's only,
really, present on one of them

thanks

[Bug 76449] Re: Cannot sort static playlists

2008-11-28 Thread akhenaton
it's a shame a thing like this one requires YEARS to be done; it's still
present in rhythmbox 0.11.6 / ubuntu 8.10 intrepid ibex
ubuntu should, probably, select another default music player [because this one,
rhythmobx, doesn't even have an equalizer, or simple playlist sorting, or...];
even mp3blaster it's a smarter choice [my 0.02$ ]

[Bug 192382] Re: alsamixer broken in hardy - intel hda

2008-05-01 Thread akhenaton
$ lspci|grep Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition
Audio Controller (rev 02)

$ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#*|grep Codec
Codec: Realtek ALC861
Codec: Generic 11c1 Si3054

$ sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils reset
 * Resetting ALSA...
amixer: Mixer hw:0 load error: No such file or directory
(repeated 36 times)
 [ OK ]
$

i also tried to build alsa but still the same problem as before: can't control
the volume or mute the sound
in gutsy all i had to do is put options snd-hda-intel model=auto in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base [and still had only PCM volume in mixer; Master was
missing, but the sound worked well]

a) in gnome the mixer defaults to Realtek ALC861 (OSS Mixer) device and lists
3 pairs of sliders: 1) Volume, 2) Microphone, 3) CD; here comes the problem i
already mentioned: can't control the volume [the Volume slider(s) will jump to
max everytime i try to lower them] or mute the sound
b) if i switch to the next audio device [Playback: ALSA PCM on front:0 (ALC861
Analog) via DMA (PulseAudio Mixer)] i only get one twin slider: Master; this
one seems to work [i can get the output volume lower/higher and also mute it];
the thing is.. i should have at least: one Master, one PCM, one Microphone, one
CD [..] slider pairs [pairs as they are two for each channel: left  right];
another problem with this one: if i lower the volume down the next time i
reboot the welcome/login sounds will have the volume set to loudest [even if i
used to set this one -=Master=- down before restart]
c) the next device is Capture: Monitor Source of ALSA PCM on front:0 (ALC861
Analog) via DMA (PulseAudio Mixer); obviously this one has nothing to do with
play [but recording]; i get only one slider pair (Master) and a microphone knob
[besides the mute one]; the mixer's tab is named Recording, so this Master
reffers to recording not playing
d) the fourth device is Capture: ALSA PCM on front:0 (ALC861 Analog) via DMA
(PulseAudio Mixer), and has only one master slider pair and that microphone
knob like the previous device [c)]

a temporary fix is to set the gnome mixer to the second device [as
described at b)], but this doesn't solve the problem

[Bug 45021] Re: including omnibook module would help with ACPI support on HP laptops

2008-04-29 Thread akhenaton
i really don't understand why the bluetooth driver in omnibook module isn't
pulled out and merged to the kernel tree; it happens to make many internal
bluetooth devices work [at least in hp and toshiba laptops]
if this will not happen too soon, at least ubuntu kernel team could build it
for all of us having one of [many] laptops out there using this [omnibook] just
to turn on the bluetooth in our laptops
[hoping.. the hope is the last to die]

[Bug 192623] Re: Hardware Information (hal-device-manager) crashes when started

2008-04-28 Thread akhenaton
i no longer saw Hardware Information (hal-device-manager) in
System-Preferences [after appling all the lates updates]
anyway, in the meantime i did a clean ubuntu install using the 8.04 final
[release] cd
thanks for your time on this; i wish the other bugs reported [by me and others]
in ubuntu's launchpad be treated as seriously as this one and draw more
attention from the devs [and not being labelled as medium and stay there
unfixed for another 3 or 4 releases as they currently do / will]

[Bug 185470] Re: iwl3945 not functioning : microcode error

2008-02-29 Thread akhenaton
hello Islam Badrel-Dein,

i was happy enough seeing the module problem solved to notice that wlan
isn't quite working; i should have said works as expected only after
at least one wireless succesfully established connection [i was using
the wired connection and haven't switched to wireless immediately after
module installation to test if it works]; well.. it doesn't work for me
either

i switched back to stable [gutsy] after that [and some other breackages
- bug reported on broked circular dependencies]

thanks again for your support

[Bug 185470] Re: iwl3945 not functioning : microcode error

2008-02-27 Thread akhenaton
Hello Islam Badrel-Dein,

firstly i updated all with the last updates and then i followed your
instructions [and 1) removed the old 2.6.22* kernel from previously
installed stable gutsy - too pitty upgrade didn't handle to do this! -,
2) reinstalled/updated the linux-ubuntu-modules together with the
updated version of kernel 2.6.24-10 - i should have thought of doing
this but i haven't! -] and now all works as expected

thank you, man

[Bug 185470] Re: iwl3945 not functioning : microcode error

2008-02-24 Thread akhenaton
hi, Islam Badrel-Dein

i did what you told me to, but to no avail
i'm sure my wireless lan card it's an intel 3945abg and it worked well in
gutsy; now [with hardy alpha 5] i can't see the module for it - nor with
lsmod/modprobe neither in restricted hardware drivers [and YES, the
restricted drivers/multiverse is checked in my repo sources - as you can see:
nvidia 3d binary driver is loaded!]
i attached the output for the modprobe iwl3945, lsmod | grep iwl3945 [which
lists nothing as modprobe can't find the driver module named iwl3945] and
lsmod [with all the loaded modules]

thanks

[Bug 192623] [NEW] Hardware Information (hal-device-manager) crashes when started

2008-02-17 Thread akhenaton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal-device-manager

i'm using:
1) ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy)
2) hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-6ubuntu5

i'm trying to launch Hardware Information from System-Preferences and the
app's window pops up for a very short amount of time and immediately dissappears
this used to work before and noticed it doesn't [anymore] just after an
auto-update [the latest, which, if i'm not mistaken, was a security update for
the kernel and some other stuff]
