Re: [Bug 473215] Re: Enable wireless greyed out in nm-applet
Hi Michał, Your advice to blacklist the dell-laptop kernel module worked for me. Thanks! Going by what Costi has written, Dell must be trying to save power by not enabling the hardware till the wifi signal appears, but they've not handled the situation where the signal is present before the laptop is booted. [Bug 368491] Re: Cannot mount partition on iSCSI LUN
This is not a bug, please close this ticket. When the multipath-tools package is installed, the device-mapper takes exclusive control of new disks - provided they are not blacklisted in multipath.conf. It does this so that it can create a multipath device node. This is so that when a disk is discovered with the same wwid it can be added under the multipath device node. For example, if the iscsi initiator logs in to a target and /dev/sdg is created, this will be taken by device-mapper which will then create a node under /dev/mapper/ corresponding to /dev/sdg. If the iscsi initiator logs into another target and /dev/sdh is created, and this has the same wwid as /dev/sdg, then device-mapper recognises that they are alternate paths to the same LUN and attaches /dev/sdh to the same node under /dev/mapper. So the solution is just to try and mount the node under /dev/mapper instead of the /dev/sd* node, if multipath-tools are installed. Sorry for the confusion - I didn't realise when I raised this bug that I had multipath-tools installed. Or even what multipath-tools was for! Got it! There's a conflict between open-iscsi and multipath-tools. After removing multipath-tools, mounting iSCSI LUNs works fine! [Bug 199270] Re: Nautilus clutters up my desktop with icons when I browse to an SMB share
I can confirm this behaviour. When I run the nautilus file browser, my desktop gets covered with icons representing every single directory under my home dir (which is an NFS mount). If I do not run the file browser, only the icons under $HOME/Desktop appear. Once the icons have appeared, the only way to get rid of them is to reboot. Simply logging out, and then logging back in does not work. Please see the attached screen shot. I believe this is a bug rather than a feature as the icons suggest that I have separately mounted each subdirectory via nautilus, whereas actually I just have a single mount point, namely my home directory. All that appeared on the screen was a small smiley face in the bottom right corner. I managed to recover the PC by doing the following * insert Knoppix live CD (version 3.4 - burnt 2004-05-17) * In Knoppix I ran grub * I entered exactly the same two commands as above * rebooted This time the BIOS successfully started the grub bootloader and grub successfully booted the kernel from the new partition. I repeated this twice. Each time, running the commands from Ubuntu's grub trashed the bootloader, and running the commands from the Live CD's grub recovered the bootloader. This lead me to suspect that the problem was either with Ubuntu's version of grub, or with the fact that the partition specified (as root) was being used differently when Ubuntu was running.
