[Bug 1879805] Re: nzbget not working because of free unrar

2020-12-11 Thread Am Laher
I've come to install nzbget 3 or 4 times in the past 5 years. Each time,
I forget about this workaround and almost give up ...

> nzbget not eligible for universe anymore (it has to be moved to
multiverse)

I'd sooner see it in multiverse and working properly.

Alternatively, I think we might be good if nzbget itself was able to
hint at the problem itself ... Possibly this code could be changed to
recognise "invalid option" errors, and to make appropriate
recommendations:

https://github.com/nzbget/nzbget/blob/f8f9dd2b6d82d4be96c45a70f889162a43e7a461/daemon/postprocess/DirectUnpack.cpp#L209

It might also be beneficial to add some info in the UI - e.g. the
`UnrarCmd` notes.

I'll see if I can make a PR for this in nzbget

[Bug 1790966] Re: Electron apps segfault on glibc 2.28 (cosmic)

2019-04-18 Thread aM
If it still matters to anyone, I've managed to get Crashplan's desktop
app to run, by downloading Electron 2.0.8, extracting libnode.so from
the archive, and replacing /usr/local/crashplan/electron/libnode.so with
the one from the electron 2.0.8 zip.

My system is Debian, but I imagine that this can work for Ubuntu as
well.

(This is of course not in any way supported by Code42 or anyone else)

Since upgrade from kubuntu 17.10 to kubuntu 18.04, I had the problem
described in this post :

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1031302/ubuntu-with-full-disk-
encryption-bad-password-after-upgrade-to-18-04

My successful workaround was to type my passphrase as if I had set it up
from an azerty physical keyboard with a qwerty software layout. No big
deal (and, I think, not the same bug ?), although I wanted to luksAddKey
my true passphrase so I could avoid the bother.

However, when I gave the passphrase(s) to the prompt (as shown above),
cryptsetup wouldn't recognize any of them, either the true one (azerty
physical and software layout) or the weird one (azerty physical layout /
qwerty software layout).

Ok, I fixed it. I did a huge bulk install of fonts using your "in home

page and search…). Reinstalling FF did not help, neither using a new

yet). I could'nt reproduce the bug I had before sending it to BQ's
repair dep'.

Only thing they did : "reinstall the software".

[Bug 1533251] Re: Ubuntu phone / Aquaris E5: no ringtones when receiving calls, no sound when receiving messages; no sound on speakers

2016-01-29 Thread AM
Same bug here since the 8/01. No sound through main speaker (ie. no
ringtones, no sound from games or videos), just stopped working and no
sound since. Pathwind bug tested too, plus 2 factory resets. Updated to
OTA-8.5 since early december (when I received the phone) and it worked
fine until early january. All other in/out work (microphone, jack & ear
speaker).

I didn't use the testing modus though.

I sent back the phone to BQ (also thinking it was hardware-linked), for
now they were unable to reproduce my problem -- but they reinstalled the
software. I'm waiting for more details, I'll post them here.

Greetings,
The T410s is now fairly old and used for testing. For quite a while it
is no longer running Ubuntu 12.04 and, hence, I unfortunately cannot
supply the desired information. Sorry.

[Bug 1023913] [NEW] Problems with hibernate

2012-07-12 Thread am...@gmx.ch
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64, Hardware: Lenovo T410s (using Intel graphics),
i5-540 M.

When running pm-hibernate, and when according to free the RAM
occupation is below the swap size, hibernation does not take place. When
running subsequently cpufreq-info, only one thread shows up (there
should be 4). To put the CPU into its normal state requires a reboot.

A partial fix: executing (as root):
sync; echo 3 /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
sync; echo 0 /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
cat /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
frees memory. A subsequent hibernation (with pm-hibernate) then works.

Thank you,
François P. Rotzinger

The mode of the secondary composite TV output is indeed 640x480 only,
the primary VGA is at 800x600. We need to run TV-out at 640x480, which
is where we see the problem. Please find output of /var/log/messages,

2012-02-25 Thread Unnikrishnan-am
Some more information: The kernel we're running at is 2.6.31.7, but the
drm stack has been upgraded to 2.6.32.24. This was done to enable
widescreen display support, and also to try to solve the problem with
the TV-out. That did not help. I then patched in the fix provided in
comment 43, and that is where we stand currently.

Re: [Bug 822611] Missing required logs.

2012-02-17 Thread am...@gmx.ch
I do not know, whether I have done everything right; if necessary, I'll
repeat this process.

The failure of hibernating seems to be related to the buffers that are
not purged: with free, I can see that most of the RAM is used by
buffers. As it looks, the entire RAM is transferred to the swap; the
buffers should be liberated.

Many thanks for looking at these issues! Best regards,
François

Re: [Bug 822611] Re: Hibernate does not work

2011-10-13 Thread am...@gmx.ch
Greetings:
Many thanks for looking at this problem! Since it is about 2 months ago
I reported this bug, I have re-installed 10.04 (for other reasons).

When I installed 10.04 for the first time on the T410s (in May 2010),
suspend and hibernate worked fine. With the progressive installation of
updates, hibernate suddenly did not work anymore giving the error
message that not enough swap is available. Using the Gnome system
monitor, memory usage was typically ~800MiB, and the swap space is 954
MiB. After a failed hibernation, 3 of the 4 threads were running at
maximum frequency and, using cpufreq-selector, I was unable to put
them back to the ondemand state. This problem is still present after
the re-installation of 10.04 (after 11.04). Possibly, the increase of
the swap will fix the hibernation-failure, but the loss of control of
the CPU state might remain. To help you debugging, I executed the
suggested commands before hibernation and after the failed hibernation
(it was not necessary to reboot; there is no crash, but 3 threads are at
maximum frequency; resetting with e. g. sudo cpufreq-selector -c2 -g
ondemand failed).

The requested files are uploaded, except /var/log/kern.log.0which was
not present.

To get the CPU state to ondemand, I shall reboote now; if a kern.log.0
file is created, I'll updoad it.

Please let me know, if you need further information.

Many thanks!
Best regards,
François P. Rotzinger

[Bug 822611] [NEW] Hibernate does not work

2011-08-08 Thread am...@gmx.ch
Public bug reported:

After having clicked on hibernate, the screen turns dark, but
hibernation does not take place. When e. g. the shift key is hit, the
screen asking for the password (as after locking the display or awaking
from suspend) appears. CPUs 1,2,3 are then at maximum frequency, CPU 0
at powersave frequency. This problem can be reproduced readily.

[Bug 644740] Re: [GM45] GPU Hang when enabling KDE desktop effects

2011-01-18 Thread am
I have also seen this problem. I have ubuntu 10.10 (not kubuntu). I
upgraded from Lucid. Ubuntu and gnome work fine, but I decided to give
kde a try and I installed kubuntu-desktop via synaptic. I got the same
problem. I have a lenovo w500 laptop and lspci gives

Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 07)

Same problem. I get the hangcheck error when effects are enabled.
Gnome still works fine and I use full effect there.

[Bug 582025] Re: Dell XPS M1330 - Suspend and Hibernate do not work in 10.04, worked in 9.1

2010-07-24 Thread Am Elder
I'm also having a suspend / hibernate problem on my Dell E6400. I have
an nvidia gpu, using the proprietary driver. No SD cards in the
machine. For me, hibernate and suspend stopped working in Jaunty and
I'm just now getting around to trying to looking for a fix.

When I tell the laptop to suspend or hibernate, the laptop goes to an
illuminated black screen and doesn't sleep. When I press a key or touch
the trackpad, the Log On dialog box appears. I haven't experienced a
freeze either going into or coming back from suspend or hibernate.

This problem appeared in autumn last year after I had been running
Jaunty for several months. This spring, I updated to Karmic and then
straight through to Lucid and the problem remains.

I'll attach a file containing the last two log reports from my /var/log
/pm-suspend.log. One records me trying to suspend, the second trying to
hibernate.

It looks to my untrained eye that the important lines in both cases are:

/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/98tuxoniceui suspend
suspend:/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/98tuxoniceui: 10: cannot create
/sys/power/tuxonice/user_interface/enable_escape: Directory nonexistent
Returned exit code 2.
Thu Jul 22 04:47:58 CEST 2010: Inhibit found, will not perform suspend

[Bug 594852] [NEW] upower gives incorrect data/misleading data

2010-06-15 Thread am
Public bug reported:

I am using lucid. I have a dell inspiron 6000

this agrees with the bios, so I believe it to be correct.

the incorrect stat is percentage. Note that it is 18%, i.e. different
from what acpi reports. this battery is an older battery and only holds
about 65% of the design capacity when full. So, energy-full seems to be
wrong as well. I don't know what capacity is, but as I said the last
full capacity is about 2/3 of the design capacity, so it could be that.
In fact, 18%/67%= 27% agrees with acpi, so that is probably what
capacity means.

Anyways, this is causing my gnome-power-manager to report the wrong
charge as well.

[Bug 348204] Re: [Jaunty] Intel wireless 3945ABG is unstable and disconnects frequently

2010-01-14 Thread I am Matt Jones
karmic with kernel 2.6.31 Intel 3945 abg. Problem still exists. Mine is
much more severe. Computer hangs when trying to obtain an IP address
from the AP. WICD and NM produce the same results. After a full system
reboot WICD will connect to the AP but has no connectivity. When pinging
a url or an IP I get about 90% packet loss. After a minute or so the
connection will drop and will not connect again regardless of what I do.
This was a problem in 8.04, went away in 8.10, now it has rendered my
laptop useless again. When I boot from a live cd with an older kernel
the wireless works properly. Every time this has happened I've removed
Ubuntu and installed Windows waiting for the next release. I guess its
time to break out the XP cd again.

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2009-06-16 Thread Am Elder
I agree that this is a feature worth adding. Having grown up with this
convention, it's still a surprise that Nautilus doesn't do it.

That said, the One Hundred Papercuts overview asks for:
- issues with existing features, rather than requests for new features

I'd love to see it in a future version of Ubuntu, though.

[Bug 247263] [NEW] debugfs: lsdel/undel not working ?

after.
(touch a; sync;sync; rm a ; sync; sync; umount /mnt; debugfs -w /dev/my/vol:
lsdel; undel inum )
In NO case was the deleted inode found, nor could we acess it by number.
Debugfs seems to enabled from what we can see in the source package.
To me it seems, that some recent changes in ext2/3 broke this function.

[Bug 221872] [NEW] Ping throwing should be...but was .. errors

2008-04-25 Thread Dan Am
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: iputils-ping

A bug in ping exists whereby packets returned after 1s+ throw funny
error messages:

64 bytes from slowhost.mydomain.com (12.37.112.12): icmp_seq=17 ttl=254

According to http://twiki.org/cgi-
bin/view/Wikilearn/PingWrongDataByte0Bug a fix exists, but is not yet
implemented widespread it seems. Since the message can drive a network

apparently returns positive for any Address and per my reseach is some
kind of scam from an individuo named Blars. Blars should be removed from
the package.

Re: [Bug 211355] Re: [Hardy] HP Compaq 6710b: Hang before or after Suspend with fan full blast

2008-04-05 Thread Dan Am
Leann,
here's another set, with tonites kernel-updates applied. No change in
behavior. Note that load still seems very high on successful resumes.
Theory: Maybe important resume processes get killed, because of high load in
the failing resume instances ? As mentioned earlier I once had the audio
system killed, with an error message to that extent. I don't know how the
cpu overload killer (whatever it's called), selects processes to kill, OOM
as a parallel mechanism is not very selective. My2c...good luck.
Best
Dan

 Hi Dan,

Per the kernel team's bug policy, can you please attach the following
information. Please be sure to attach each file as a separate
 attachment.

 * cat /proc/version_signature  version.log
 * sudo lspci -vvnn  lspci-vvnn.log

Can you also attach your dmesg output (dmesg dmesg.log) after an
attempted suspend/resume cycle as outlined here:
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend

For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer

 Hi ,
with yesterdays upgrades my suspend bug changed. Before the screen stayed
 dimmed. That is handled.
Now the computer hangs, with CPU heating and fan going full blast, which
 is worse.
 Sometimes before, sometimes after suspend.

Re: [Bug 211355] Re: [Hardy] HP Compaq 6710b: Hang before or after Suspend with fan full blast

2008-04-04 Thread Dan Am
Hi Leann,
ok, here we go. Interestingly enough, the suppend from command line as
suggested in the Wiki Article worked twice . Only load was at about 50 ,
so audio crashed.
After that I closed the lid, and resume failed.(also occurs when I suspend
from the battery control in Gnome) dmesg.log is from that cycle.
Guod Luck, and if you need me to do something let me know.
Best
Dan

[Bug 127173] Re: strange Xorg screen blanking control after resume from suspend to disk

2008-03-31 Thread Dan Am
I seem to have a similar problem on compaq 6710b. After resume screen
just stays blank. If I go to console and back to graphics or kill X the
backlight comes back on.

[Bug 127173] Re: strange Xorg screen blanking control after resume from suspend to disk

2008-03-31 Thread Dan Am
There seems to be a problem with /sys/class/backlight, which gets
referred by /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/99video:

reset_brightness() {
for bl in /sys/class/backlight/* ; do
[ -d $bl ] || continue
[ -f $bl/brightness ] || continue
BR=$(cat $bl/brightness)
echo 0 $bl/brightness
echo $BR $bl/brightness
done
}

However /sys/class/backligzht is empty and thuis the function just has no
function. Loading of modules lcd and cr_bllcd does not change this.
Still working on it...
