[Bug 1031893] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04 fails to boot after kernel update on T400

2012-08-01 Thread anis
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I just performed a 150 MB upgrade to 3.2.0.27 with my Thinkpad T400
and after reboot Ubuntu stopped working: I do get the grub screen but
after choosing Ubuntu, with Linux 3.2.0-27-generic a black screen with
blinking cursor appears and stays. After that, I can only shutdown the
system with the power button. I have a second OS to choose from in grub
which is Windows Vista but booting fails as well.

Please, any help is greatly appreciated. (Wished I had not done the last
backup a week ago...)

[Bug 1031893] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 fails to boot after kernel update on T400

2012-08-01 Thread anis
Can't start the terminal unfortunately.

I followed the instructions given in the link.

DONE 1. Boot the machine.
APPEARS AUTOMAT. 2. During the BIOS screen, press the shift key and hold it
down. You should see the GRUB menu after the BIOS loads.
DONE 3. Navigate to the kernel entry you want to boot, and press 'e'.

DONE 4. Then remove the quiet and splash keywords (found in the line
starting with linux)

NOT AVAILABLE 5. Starting with Natty (Ubuntu 11.04), also remove the parameter
vt.handoff=7, and on the line that reads set gfxpayload=$linux_gfx_mode,
replace with set gfxpayload=text
DONE 6. Press 'Ctrl+x' to boot.

After that, see attachment above; btw, I get the same when starting Win
Vista in the Safe Mode.

[Bug 1031893] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 fails to boot after kernel update on T400

2012-08-01 Thread anis
I tried adding an acpi=offline to grub: ubuntu booted and gave me a
short glimpse of my desktop but after a few seconds the system shut down
by itself again. Does not work a second time.

** Tags added: apport-collected running-unity staging

** Description changed:

- Please, any help is greatly appreciated. (Wished I had not done the last
- backup a week ago...)

2012-06-27 Thread El Achèche ANIS
Hey,
I have the same problem here.. But not with XUbuntu..
I did a fresh install using the command-line option (in the alternate CD), then
I installed MATE Desktop, now I have the same error when trying to start
nm-applet.

After purging and reinstalling I came across another work around explained here

[Bug 1001553] Re: mysql-server failed to start after daily upgrade, reinstalling does not help

2012-06-01 Thread Rehan Anis
well, to avoid reconfiguring uninstalled packages, I use aptitude and
tomboy/knotes
just ask sudo aptitude purge mysql-common
and it will display a list of packages needs to be removed, copy and paste them
to notes.
then accept the solution.
After complete removal and reinstalling mysql
copy the list of apps from notes and write in console
sudo aptitude install [CTRL + SHIFT + V] [HIT ENTER]

that will save your couple of days... :D

[Bug 1001553] Re: mysql-server failed to start after daily upgrade, reinstalling does not help

2012-05-22 Thread Rehan Anis
This problem is resolved only after the following lines
aptitude purge mysql-server mysql-server-5.5 mysql-client mysql-client-5.5
mysql-common

removing mysql-common removed dozens of other packages, which I copied and now
reinstalling.
after that I removed the mysql etc folder

sudo rm /etc/mysql/ -R

and reninstalled the mysql

sudo aptitude install mysql-server mysql-client

This resolves the problem, however the bug is there and should be sorted out.
JazakAllah

[Bug 987159] [NEW] ps2 mouse not working but touch pad does

2012-04-23 Thread Rehan Anis
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 184049 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/184049

Public bug reported:

I have a dock station for my laptop which has additional ports.
I have dual boot windows 7 and ubuntu 12.04 Beta (upgraded right now from 11.10
because of the same problem).
The same mouse is working fine under windows 7, while in Ubuntu, it worked for
the first boot with mouse plugged in, after that, it does not work at all, only
the light under it works (its a hp optical mouse) to show it is detected by the
computer, and also suggested by the following commands and their output.
~$ xsetpointer -l | grep Pointer
2: Virtual core pointer [XPointer]
4: Virtual core XTEST pointer [XExtensionPointer]
13: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad[XExtensionPointer]
14: PS/2 Generic Mouse[XExtensionPointer]

Now I don't know how to resolve this problem.

Please note that previously I have USB optical Track Ball, Which I replaced
with this Hp Optical Ps/2 Mouse.
It worked for the first boot only in Ubuntu 11.10, after that nothing seems to
work.

[Bug 468420] [NEW] [175517.201379] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000001

2009-11-01 Thread anis
Public bug reported:

This bug occurred today after I woke up my T400 (Karmic Koala) from
suspend modus. Within 1 minute the computer automatically restarted and
got stuck in the screen (with the loading bar) before the log-in window.
The colors were fading away until the screen was white, then coming
again back with a blueish shade, everything still frozen. Very weird.
After hard reset it worked again normally.

ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: Your system might become unstable now and might need to be
restarted.

[Bug 335563] [NEW] Epson C91 Printer not detected

2009-02-27 Thread Anis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cupsys

Hello.
I have a Epson C91 Printer which is normally plugged in and with the right
driver (there's no driver for it, the C88 or DX4050 usually do it) and it's not
detected, it's not under lsusb either, and this happens to me quite frequently,
it's only rarely detected. What's wrong with it.
Thanks in advance.

[Bug 211966] Re: nautilus-share report a warning about missing /var/lib/samba/usershares

2008-07-20 Thread Anis CHEBBI
you can solve this by adding a line in smb.conf

sudo gedit /etc/samba/smb.conf

in the [Global] section

add
usershare owner only = False

save smb.conf

it works like a charm
