[Bug 1326216] Re: Kernel panic (kernel 3.13.0-27-generic) on ASUS UX31A
Christopher, not sure why you say there is a contradiction--the live kernel I found on the iso was 3.13.0-24, and the linux-image listed on the page you provided is also 3.13.0-24. again, if utopic avoids 3.13.0-27, they should be fine. regarding reverse bisect--it looks like this may not be necessary, because there was apparently a recent update to the kernel--my system now has 3.13.0-29 on it, and that does NOT panic. so: 3.13.0-24 is fine, 3.13.0-29 is fine, but 3.13.0-27 is bad. this, along with the panic backtrace, should hopefully be sufficient for the ubuntu developers to identify the bad code, and ensure it does not appear in any future ubuntu releases. ::ann ** Tags removed: needs-reverse-bisect -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1326216 Title: Kernel panic (kernel 3.13.0-27-generic) on ASUS UX31A To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1326216/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1326216] Re: Kernel panic (kernel 3.13.0-27-generic) on ASUS UX31A
I loaded the daily-live cdimage "utopic-desktop-amd64.iso" (dated May 20) on a USB stick, and booted with that. since the kernel version on that is 3.13.0-24-generic, there was of course no problem with booting. the problem is with the next kernel in line, 3.13.0-27. so long as the utopic team stays on 3.13.0-24, you should be fine :-) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1326216 Title: Kernel panic (kernel 3.13.0-27-generic) on ASUS UX31A To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1326216/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1326216] Re: Kernel panic (kernel 3.13.0-27-generic) on ASUS UX31A
Marking as confirmed per jsalisbury's instructions. The bug does NOT exist in 3.13.11.2, specifically linux-image-3.13.11-03131102-generic_3.13.11-03131102.201405081435_amd64 I suppose it would be possible to do a bisect, but doesn't the backtrace provide enough information to debug this? ::ann ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1326216 Title: Kernel panic (kernel 3.13.0-27-generic) on ASUS UX31A To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1326216/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1326216] [NEW] Kernel panic (kernel 3.13.0-27-generic) on ASUS UX31A
Public bug reported: Kernel version 3.13.0-27-generic causes a kernel panic on bootup. the precise test kernel from comment #177 works for me (no more constant crashes on a core i5-based p8-h67-m pro asus motherboard). also, ubuntu 13.04 also appears to be stable on my system, so it looks like the ubuntu developers are doing a good job stabilizing the graphics system. thanks! ::ann -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1140716 Title: [regression] 3.5.0-26-generic and 3.2.0-39-generic GPU hangs on Sandybridge To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1140716/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1158293] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel causes xserver to crash
wow. this is obviously a problem for a number of people, so it is disappointing that the ubuntu developer reaction is to discount and invalidate this bug. we are all trying to help make ubuntu better, why be dismissive about that? since the graphics is crashing, it is extremely difficult to capture dmesg or the i915_error_state. but i did get lucky and managed to get in a virtual terminal after about 20 minutes of rebooting and trying. attached please find the three requested attachments (next two in next posts--how do you add multiple attachments?). ** Attachment added: "dmesg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1158293/+attachment/3616700/+files/dmesg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1158293 Title: xserver-xorg-video-intel causes xserver to crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1158293/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1158293] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel causes xserver to crash
i have also been affected by this bug, but i think it is not from xserver-xorg-video-intel. instead i believe it is due to some change in the kernel. i have a core i5 based system using the integrated graphics, on a p8h67-m pro motherboard. i am running 12.04. when an update came out in mid-march, the system would have constant crashes and hangs upon loggin in to the desktop. the characteristic behavior of the bug is that there will be graphics glitches, such as flashing, text changing to gibberish, temporary hangs that may recover--but sometimes don't. however, the mouse pointer always works. i tried a few things to help isolate the bug, such as reformating and reinstalling ubuntu, trying different versions of xserver-xorg-video-intel, and different versions of the kernel. the version of xserver-xorg-video-intel does not affect the behavior (at least compared between the original version in 12.04, which is 2:2-17.0-1ubuntu4.1, and the updated version, which is 2:2-17.0-1ubuntu4.3). 64 bit vs. 32 bit install of ubuntu 12.04 does not affect the behavior. what does cause the crashing is using a recent kernel, especially 3.2.0-39-generic, but 3.5.0-23 also has the bad behavior. in contrast, the original kernel from 12.04 (3.2.0-29-generic) is rock-solid stable. kernels in between these 2 seemed hit or miss: up to 3.2.0-32 appear stable, but later kernels sometimes would hang at boot (at the purple screen after grub), or hang while running, while other times they would behave ok. however, 3.2.0-39 is terrible. booting into a virtual terminal (text mode) is stable even with the new kernels. i did manage to catch some errors in one of the sessions (either kernel 3.5.0-23 or 3.2.0-39, not sure which) in the xorg.log--here is the section (these were just after the modelines): (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing.
