Ok, neither setting the scaling governor to performance, nor appending nohz=off 
to kernel arguments seems to help.
Attaching /var/log/messages, maybe it'll give a hint about the cause of these 
lockups to someone.

[Bug 211977] [NEW] cpufreq ondemand governor causes kernel panics with 2.6.24-12-generic x86_64

Public bug reported:

With ondemand scaling governor i often experienced kernel panics on my amd64 x2 
4200+
Had to put 'echo performance  /sys/.../scaling_governor' in rc.local;
Can't check with newer kernel now, will be able to do so at about 8am 
2008-04-05 CET, maybe.
Probably cpufreq has some issues with smp machines.
