Hi Bryce, I was able to resolve by following this guide https://askubuntu.com/questions/225786/how-do-i-re-install-samba#225802 |sudo apt-get purge samba samba-common sudo apt-get install samba | I do not recall changing anything in smb.conf except the following |[GLOBAL] client min protocol = SMB2 client max protocol = SMB3| I believe I was following https://askubuntu.com/questions/1009455/smb-2-or-3-with-samba-version-4-3-11 and the goal was to mount SMB2 share (but it never worked). [Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock
running 16.04.1 Fujitsu Lifebook E752 single head. no screensaver that i know of. i don't use locking, but when returning from sleep the screen is locked. so far, most of the times the pw-field is there, but not usable. i also think that there should be icons in the top right corner and a clock maybe? the space is empty. just now i had a case of pw-field missing altogether. found this bug. did not find any newer bug, so i post here. initially recovered with workaround "unity --replace" which made the PW- field show up. i could unlock the desktop, seemed fine. now desktop totally screwed up: alt-tab unresponsive, launcher missing, top-bar missing, whole thing looks funny. mouse works, can use scroll-wheel and mark text in a left-over, fullscreen terminal, but not type.. put computer back to sleep, woke up again, now got a gray box that says "Chris" (my username) "Password", a field and button s switch user and unlock. never saw that before. might be because i tried to use described locking procedure (ctrl-alt-l) which was suggesting to fix some things, which did not seem to work. typed PW, screen went away. back to screwed up desktop. keyboard seemed useless. noticed that ctrl-n opens file-browser. works repeatedly. with those windows open, i can use alt-tab to switch between these new windows. browser, netbeans, thunderbird (should all be still living in the background) are not presented. task-switcher looks funny, too. just a row of images and a box around the middle one. used file-browser to start a video. worked. can now use alt-tab to switch between file-browser and videoplayer. i am a noob. if you need something, tell me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311316 Title: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1311316/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1558768] Re: gvfsd-trash causing high CPU-load when try to empty trash with thousands of files
This persists - big nuisance. 1. Create an empty folder 2. Execute "touch bspl{0001..7000}.c" (simply crates 7000 empty files) 3. Move the files to trash The system consumed 8GB RAM and 8GB SWAP - heavy usage of CPU - you can monitor with top If I am to wait a few min it will resolve and both RAM and SWAP would go down to 1.5GB If I want to get out of it somehow - I can killall gvfsd-trash and killall nautilus Then go to ~/.local/share/Trash/files$ and empty the content and also go to ~/.local/share/Trash/info$ and empty the content I use Darktable (beautiful RAW image manipulation program). Often I have to delete thousands of files that take a few GB of space. Having a trash is desirable feature as it gives safety net for few days. I installed vlc media player using the default method on Ubuntu 10.something and then recently upgraded to 12.04. I think I reinstalled VLC media player at that point. I tried 'vpnc -dpd--idle 0' option in both 9.04 and 9.10. It does not seem to work. It worked fine in 8.10 w/ and w/o dpd-idle 0 option. More detailed description: 1. I use vpnc --dpd-idle 0 myvpn.conf to get to the network behind a firewall. 2. Connection is made properly and I am able to access all resources behind the firewall. 3. After several minutes of inactivity my applications such as network drives, email, etc. stop responding. 4. typing vpnc-disconnect returns appropriate response vpnc ... terminated (this is same as when termination the vpn session within couple of minutes of starting it) 5. trying to access the web with firefox fails. 6. trying to start vpnc again fails. 7. restarting the computer allows for everything to function properly again. 8. what also seems to work w/o restarting the computer is deleting resolv.conf in /etc directory and regenerating it with a sudo ln -s /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf 9. however, even after following step 8 the same problem occurs after several minutes of inactivity after logging back in. [Bug 365881] Re: wubi installer's pyrun.exe says no disk
I posted an answer on 6/10/09 stating that when I put a blank CD in my 2nd DVD drive I did not get the exception error message. On trying to duplicate this, I again got an error message when putting the Ubuntu Live CD in disc drive 1, even though had put a disk in my 2nd drive. So I pulled the USB connection cable from my HP Photosmart D7160 printer which contains a card reader, essentially disconnecting my printer (with a card reader) from my computer; put the Ubuntu CD in my disc drive and no error message. So simply disconnecting my printer’s USB cable solved the problem for me. I tried this several times and no error message. So in my case at least, it appears to be the card reader on my printer causing the problem. I must have had my printer disconnected (because I was trying everything I could think of) when I put the blank CD in my drive and erroneously thought I had solved the problem at that time by inserting the blank CD in my empty disc drive. I am sorry for the confusion, but glad I have isolated the problem at least on my computer. I hope this might work for some of the others having this problem. -- wubi installer's pyrun.exe says no disk https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365881 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 365881] Re: wubi installer's pyrun.exe says no disk
I am a newbie at all of this. This is my first post. But I was having the same problem on my Vista computer. It has both a Drive E (a DVD/CD- RW drive) and a Drive F (DVD RW drive). I’d insert the Ubuntu 9.04 installation disc in Drive E and I would get the error message Windows no disk exception processing message, ditto if I put it in Drive F: By clicking on Continue a couple of times the screen with the three installation options comes up. Ok, on my XP machine with just a CD drive there was no problem. The installation screen with the three options came right up. I found this post on the web: http://itknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com/itanswers/windows-no-disk-exception-processing-message-c013/ It states: “The event indicates that the server received an exception of STATUS_NO_MEDIA_IN_DEVICE (c013). The error occurs when the server tries to access a shared resource (for example, a CD-ROM or floppy disk) which has no media (that is, no disk) in the drive. To prevent these errors, insert a disk in the drive.” I put a blank CD in my F drive, the Ubuntu CD in the E drive and no problem. [Bug 307220] [NEW] Error when tkgate starts simulator
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: tkgate When clicking on Start the simulator-button in tkgate I get an pop-up saying: Failed to start simulator '/usr/share/tkgate-1.8.7/libexec/gsim'. I've never used tkgate before, so I don't know what should have happen. The program will continue to run after the error, and it seems the program thinks the simulator is running. Pressing C-s e will abort the simulation. A which gsim tells me that it is located in /usr/bin/gsim, so it seems like it is a path that is wrong. [Bug 248010] Re: Update manager is extremely problematic - had to cycle power to kill it
I should also mention that this update manager problem occurs before I even click on the icon - the update manager runs in the background, and slows the computer to an absolute halt at random periods in time. -- Update manager is extremely problematic - had to cycle power to kill it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/248010 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 248010] [NEW] Update manager is extremely problematic - had to cycle power to kill it
Public bug reported: I am using Ubuntu 8.04, and the update manager is the orange / grey coloured icon on the top right of the Gnome window. The update manager is going totally out of control on my computer. It is swallowing the entire system resources, causing the disk to thrash, and rendering both the Gnome desktop and the consoles totally unresponsive. I would have thought that something like an update manager would be set to run with a high nice level, but it seems to run at nice level zero, and it actually prevents me from using the computer. Today I had to switch off the computer's power in order to kill the update manager - there was literally no other way to access the computer, since it was using so many system resources that I could not even log in via a console. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Update manager is extremely problematic - had to cycle power to kill it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/248010 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 164231] Re: NFS regression causes subsequent mounts from same superblock to silently use previous mount options
Is there already a plan to release the fix for NFSv4 problem? I only ask as there haven't been any changes for almost a month now.
