[Bug 2064177] Re: Window borders and shadows missing from GTK3 dialogs (if autologin is enabled and Xorg is used)

2024-06-04 Thread Bernard Robbins
Logging off and on again fixed the issue with me. I have autologin on.
Effects Thorium Browser but not Chrome. Also effects my Slack install,
but no other apps so far.

[Bug 2064694] Re: Can't install ksmbd-tools package on Ubuntu 24.04

2024-05-06 Thread Bernard
you're right, I was looking for *.deb in ~/ksmbd-tools and it was in ~/

The new installation seems to be looking for the configuration file in the
/usr/local/etc/ksmbd directory and not /etc/ksmbd like the previous one.
However, after installing and restarting the service, errors appear:

[Bug 2059117] Re: Ubuntu 22.04 crashed repeated times due to last kernel update

2024-03-27 Thread Bernard Stafford
Wiping the drive Ubuntu is installed on.
I am marking this as an invalid bug report.
The Ubuntu 22.04 is now unusable and not fixable with the current kernel.
Not falling back to the previous kernel.

[Bug 1967859] [NEW] Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop Guide add-on

2022-04-05 Thread Bernard Stafford
Public bug reported:

On the Ubuntu Desktop Guide for the new
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Jammy Jellyfish Ubuntu Desktop Guide documentation that is
being wrote.

Include a Firewall category within the Network, Web,
& email section.

The firewall category should link to the UFW wiki page.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UFW
This way new users have information how to configure
the firewall on Ubuntu. Mainly as a security aspect
especially for new enthusiasts starting with Ubuntu that do not know their is a
firewall.
Looking at the current desktop guide for 20.04 LTS
the information for a firewall is missing.

[Bug 1955854] [NEW] After update to linux kernel 5.13.0-22-generic, cannot power off, cannot reboot, and cannot sleep PC.

2021-12-27 Thread Bernard Helyer
Public bug reported:

I'm running Kubuntu 21.10 on a Lenovo Ideapad 320, dual booting with
Windows 10.

After installing the kernel update to 5.13.0-22-generic, shutting down,
rebooting, sleeping, etc all fail in the same manner; the display shuts
off, but the power remains on (the LED powerlight doesn't go off if
powering off, flash if sleeping, etc). Disabling acpi doesn't appear to
do anything.

Booting into 5.13.0-21-generic (the previous kernel) restores all
functionality.

Did not work on Live "Try Ubuntu" session.. Live session just reboots into
another Live session.
This is from a USB during Live QA Testing. Not an Install..

To the Developer for a fix on QA Testing on the Impish Build.
Only to further the progress of the New OS Ubuntu 21.10 Impish.
More testing will need to be accomplished before the due date of 2021-08-19
feature freeze.
Hopefully everything will be finalized before the final release on 2021-10-14.
Time is of the essence. This has to do with the warning after boot only...!
within gnome-shell.
Held back because you are a developer and determined it is not retentive, that
obviously shows up during a live boot session as described during QA Testing. I
suggest Relay this to the developers... Please I will Retest in 2 days..

Daily 20210721 .iso . This Bug was reported in QA Test Live Session.
Just installed .iso in Virtual Box from a download file,
Tested as Live Session, Success. Loaded good everything worked.
Except for some outdated files that apport would not collect.
Most likely files being used until developed ones finish.
Please check your media and .iso checksum.
Could have a corrupt download or bad USB.

On Ubuntu Desktop AMD daily 20210721.This bug report is reported on testing
Live Session.
Notation .iso works good in Virtual Box. Except for some old expired packages
used, still in development; apport would not send report. Image loads fine.
Live session works good.
Please check your media and .iso checksum or gpg.

[Bug 1928323] [NEW] call from xdg-email with attachment crashes claws-mail

2021-05-13 Thread Bernard Moreton
Public bug reported:

When claws-mail is set s the default email client, calling
xdg-email --subject HELLO --body "Body text" --attach FILENAME EMAILADDRESS
causes claws-mail to terminate.
No errors are reported to the terminal

Any call without "--attach FILE" works fine.

This bug also affects LibreOffice "send", where it appears that the
problem may be related to an encoded filename.

It also affects simplescan "send" function, already reported as Bug #1909941,
where it is suggested that the problem may have gone away in Claws version
3.17.8
But this is not available in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, and in the meantime simplescan
and LO have missing functionality.

[Bug 1803604]

2021-05-12 Thread Bernard Moreton
Until communication between xdg-email and claws-mail is fixed in Ubuntu LTS,
I've resolved the problem by (a) adding a claws-mail line in the apparmor
profile for senddoc and reloading the policy. and (b) setting
Tools/Options/Internet/Email to specify /usr/bin/claws-mail.
I don't like messing with system files like that, but it now works again
properly.

[Bug 1748895]

2021-05-05 Thread Bernard Moreton
I believe there is a bug in xdg-email affecting --attach
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdg-utils/+bug/1909941?comments=all)
(sorry, the last attempt closed on me before I'd finished)

The fix for that wor3ks in Claws-mail 3.17.8, but not in 3.17.5 which is
the latest version for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

I get the same error when calling xdg-email --attach FILENAME from the
command-line as seems to be occurring when it is run from senddoc.

I've asked for a backport of Claws 3.17.8 to Ubuntu 20.04 ... !

[Bug 1748895]

2021-05-05 Thread Bernard Moreton
In the current version of LO, 7.1.2.2 (Ubuntu build, on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS),
there has been no change to senddoc since the last installed version (7.0.1.2),
but the behaviour is significantly different.

1
Using the supplied senddoc (7.1.2.2), and trying to send a PDF attachment,

(a)
if Tools/Options/Internet/Email is set as ,
Claws-mail freezes, so that no ALT-TAB is possible, and has to be shut down,
and I gete a message on Terminal:
 /home/mbm/.claws-mail/mimetmp/.comments: unlink: Is a directory
** (claws-mail:7281): WARNING **: 11:27:50.598: failed to convert encoding of
file name: Invalid byte sequence in conversion input

(b)
If Tools/Options/... is set to /usr/bin/claws-mail
I get an LO error window 'unable to find a working email configuration
and an error on Terminal
"/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/senddoc: 387: /usr/bin/claws-mail: Permission
denied" (perhaps from AppArmor ???)

(c)
If Tools/Options/... is set to /usr/bin/xdg-email
then focus switches to the Claws-mail client, but no Compose window appears,
and no error message is given, but the Claws-mail window is frozen, without
focus, and needs to be clicked intofocus before anything more can be done.

2
Using the fix script I suggested some while ago, and trying to send a PDF
attachment,
if Tools/Options/Internet/Email is set to /usr/bin/claws-mail (my standard
client), I get a LO error "unable to find a working email configuration".
If I set the option to either /usr/bin/xdg-email or to ,
I get an error on my Claws-mail client, File doesn't exist or
permission denied", and the email clinet is closed altogether when I close the
er3ror message window.
and sometimes (not always) I get an error on my Terminal,
** (claws-mail:7281): WARNING **: 11:27:50.598: failed to convert encoding of
file name: Invalid byte sequence in conversion input

3
I note that in senddoc, against the "sylpheed | claws" entry, there is
ATTACH="${ATTACH:-}${ATTACH:+ }$2"
and against xdg-email there is
MAILTO="${MAILTO:-}${MAILTO:+&}attachment="$(echo "file://$2" | "${URI_ENCODE}")

The use of URI_ENCODE here is probably not right, the UTI file usage
(file://$2) certainly doesn't work when passed to Claws-mail, and xdg-
email doesn't seem to recognize it either.

[Bug 1909941] Re: xdg-email changes break simple-scan email functionality

2021-05-05 Thread Bernard Moreton
I have the same problem on 20.04 LTS (fully updated).
xdg-email --subject SUBJ --attach HAR.pdf
gives:
/home/mbm/.claws-mail/mimetmp/.comments: unlink: Is a directory

** (claws-mail:10611): WARNING **: 15:50:25.346: failed to convert
encoding of file name: Invalid byte sequence in conversion input

If the fix to xdg-utils works in claws-mail 3.17.8 , can that be back-
ported to 20.04 LTS, please?

[Bug 1926963] [NEW] Karma a change in Launchpad karma settings?

2021-05-03 Thread Bernard Stafford
Public bug reported:

Could the Karma settings be changed to reflect the completion of an
entire package translated in Ubuntu Translations? Completing each and
every translation for each package reflect as extra karma points. Some
individuals skip from one translation to another, this is fine. My self
start a the first translation and complete each and every one to the
very last translation for each and every package I accomplish.

Recently I have been translating language for Ubuntu 7 days a week. My Karma
score keeps declining.
As well I have been Answering questions on Ubuntu.
The Karma Score has not reflected work done. These are trying times with the
virus. Why are we declining the Karma Score for hard diligent work accomplished
during these trying times. This is only a slap in the face more or less. These
are only a few. This has been happening for years.
Very discouraging. This needs to be checked. Especially for the individuals
that are uploading code for the next Ubuntu release. Karma should reflect the
input of work being accomplished.

Thank You
Bernard
