[Bug 771448] Re: desktop wall edge flipping broken
Hi, Paddy Landau, I am able to get it working conistently finally with help from Ubuntu forums Open ccsm, go to Preferences Plugin list and uncheck the box Automatic Plugin Sorting, on the right panel Enabled Plugins, move wall to the bottom of the list (or close to the bottom) and then restart Ubuntu. It has been working consistently ever since. This works in Ubuntu 13.10 64 bit. I think it would work in 12.04 as well . For 12.04, I used to go to gconf-editor and go to apps compiz-1 general screen0 options and edited the list and put wall at the bottom or close to it. [Bug 1185616] Re: wings3d does not run on ubuntu 13 that needed dependencies.
You can install a static copy of wings3d by simply downloading a .run file from it website, make it executable and run it. It will install a static copy of wings3d in /home (or you can run it in /opt) with all the dependencies bundled with it. The dependency problem likely will never be fixed (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/erlang/+bug/438365) It is no big deal as far as wings3d is concern because installing the static version with the .run file is as easy or easier than apt-get and there is no dependecy problem to worry about. I add an affect me too simply because I think they should at least have the courtesy to remove wings3d in the repository if they can't fix or won't fix the dependency problem. [Bug 1162954] Re: Nvdia blank black windows
Hi Andre', Did you try using alt-tab to pick windows where there are a few instances of the same application in use (say two pdf files opened with evince) so that 1) they are minimized and 2) focused to full screen? As described in post #13 this appears to be the only scenario in which I would still get the black windows using alt-tab (wth the shift switcher it is a bit unpredictable, this will always produce black windows, but there are other scenarios which will result in black windows only some times, described in #13) I have never enabled focus animation as far as I can remember (it was set to 'none', I think). At the moment I have replaced the stock Compiz build from the repository with version 0.9.10.2 from https://launchpad.net/~smspillaz/+archive/compiz-experimental and ccsm doesn't even have a focus option in animation. Warning. Don't use the Compiz experimental ppa now as the Unity build apparently has not kept up so upgrading with it at this time would break Unity. So, if I am switching Windows with the scale addon (like using gnome- shell) I am able to avoild black windows al together and even if I get a black window say in using alt-tab in scenario 5 moving the cursor to the hot corner to refocus the open black window would make it normal again. [Bug 993397] Re: vdpau not working (well) with Ubuntu12.04 Unity
Ok, reinstalled 12.04 and upgraded the Nvidia driver with xorg-edgers, vdpau is working again. But compiz is consumming a lot of cpu cycle even when idle. The high cpu usage is not observed in 12.10 so it appears to be a Compiz bug which is fixed in 12.10 but have not been backported to 12.04 yet. A work around is to uncheck sync to Vbank in both Nvidia settings and ccsm 's OpenGL tab then compiz's cpu usage becomes normal again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993397 Title: vdpau not working (well) with Ubuntu12.04 Unity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/993397/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1024773] [NEW] gecko-mediaplayer not working in Chrome
Public bug reported: gecko-mediaplayer no longer works in Chrome in Ubuntu 12.04. (currently Chrome is in version 20, but it has been like that for a while)For example, go to http://fredrik.hubbe.net/plugger/test.html and choose video AVI(divx) from the menu and the gecko-mediaplayer plugin crashes in such a way that a window for gnome-mplayer pops out of the webpage and it just freezes. This happens on every site that I have tried. Even the audio player crashes. For divX streaming I can use the totem plugin (though not as good) but for sites that require Windows media player gecko seems to be the only Linux option. On Firefox everything works without issue. Also gecko-mediaplayer works perfectly on Chrome (same versions, currently 20) in Ubuntu 11.04 and Fedora 17. So there may be a problem with the Ubuntu 12.04 build of Chrome or gecko-mediaplayer. Actually, on my machine DISABLING sync to vBlank(in both Nvidia settings and ccsm), not enabling it (which is enabled by default) partially works around the problem (it does not work for full screen), see my post #3 If furthermore, undericted fullscreen windows is checked in ccsm then vdpau works perfectly in XBMC but still not work for mplayer and mplayer2. [Bug 993397] Re: vdpau not working (well) with Ubuntu12.04 Unity
@c10ud Hi, I am aware of the 'enable gpu acceleration' option in vlc, but it never works. You have to compile vlc and ffmpeg with the proper options enabled for vaapi to work. http://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_VAAPI Moreover, the way VLC uses vdpau (through vaapi) is not efficient (see first paragraph of link above) so even if that is enabled cpu usage is still much higher than mplayer, mplayer2 and XBMC. VLC may have other nifty features, but it is not the best Linux mediaplayer if you watch a lot of HD videos IMO. If you have a vdpau enabled Nvidia card, mplayer usually works a lot better, and mplayer2 is the best.

@ Linards Ticmanis If Ubuntu can't ship a fix, then ship a workaround, for heaven's sake. If flashplayer is unmaintained, it's time to throw it out and go with one of the clones, even if they're not perfect. There *will* be bad security holes discovered even in 11.2 at some point in the not too far future, you can bet on that. I would rather not because the 'clones' (lightspark and gnash if that is what you mean) doesn't work almost 100% of the time. It is going to give Ubuntu a really bad reputation if it is shipped with these. Like I said, you don't need flash or any of its 'clones' for Youtube ( and the clones don't even work 99.99% of the time, check them out yourself) , and you can still use flash for everything else where it is needed. It works better than flash anyway, and you can get hardware accelearation via vdpau (since it is mplayer) If you don't use firefox, install the latest smplayer from rvm's ppa, it has a Youtube viewer, and since it is mplayer you get great hardware acceleration via vdpau. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/967091 Title: Wrong tint with Nvidia after upgrading to 11.2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libvdpau/+bug/967091/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

For Natty enabling quick starter seems to have solved the problem completely. The catch is that in order to shut down the machine you would need to manually quit quickstarter, also have to configure with the dconf-editor to show the quick starter icon on the panel. [Bug 962629] [NEW] rendering pdf converted from ps
Public bug reported: I find that when evince opens certain pdf files most of the contents are blank while Okular can display these same files with no problem. For example, the pdf version of this file http://arxiv.org/abs/0909.4561 With more experimentations it seems that that problem only happens with pdf files which have been converted from postscripts. For example, in the link above, evince could display the .ps version of the article, but if convert it to .pdf (with ps2pdf) and try to open it with evince again, one gets the same garbled display same as what happened when one download the pdf file from the link and open it with evince. I cannot be sure, but it seems that all the pdf files I have had problems were converted from ps files (downloaded from academic sites which always have a ps version) Again Okular displays all these files with no issue. [Bug 930148] Re: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ?
Mark, We understand that there is a cost to every option, that is not the issue. The issue is whether it is a good trade off, I am sure you understand that too, otherwise why not just remove all options and then end of story? I think the disagreement is whether including the dodge is a good trade off, many of us think it is because this is a very nice feature that makes Unity look and feel really sophisticated. Moreover, it is not a new feature request, it is something that has been working very well since Natty, therefore we don't think it is an unreasonable request, it is not like we expect you to create something new from scratch. The reason you gave is that some new users may be confused, now some of us are actually new users under any reasonable definition. As someone above mentioned he has started using Ubuntu only since Oneric. Is that new enough? I am sure there are more new users who would feel the same, but they just don't know that the dodge is removed in 12.04 and how to file a bug report. I don't know how you conduct your focus groups and how many people you have surveyed, but here there are almost 90 people who care enough to file a bug report,--as usual people who care enough to file a bug report are just a small percent of those who feel the same but either too lazy to or not knowing how. The list seems to be growing everyday too. I think as far as opinions and feedback go, ours is just as valid as those users who find the dodge confusing. As an aside I just don't understand how the doge would be confusing after maybe 5 minutes of use. If they can't wrap their heads around the dodge then they probably would find all of Unity confusing and windows XP a lot more to their taste. I think this is part of the reason that some of us find your explanation not very convincing. But as other said, all you need to address that would be to change the default. Finally, please don't be so antagonistic. We are not demanding, this is just a request. As I said before, we do like Unity and appreciate that you and your team has created it. This is not one of those Unity sucks and why not stick to gnome2 conversations, please don't react as if it is. [Bug 930148] Re: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ?
Please reconsider Mark. The people who post here are not Unity haters, but some of its most enthusiastic users, or they wouldn't even care, just switch to classic fall back or gnome shell and that would be it. We are not asking for new feature, just that please don't remove an already existing feature which has worked very well for many of us, and has been advertised as one of the cool features unique to Unity. Some of the people who will miss it are definitely new users, so why us that our voices carry no weight for you? [Bug 896709] Re: Unity - selecting instances of a minimised application is not intuitive or simple
I would just like to say that I agree with Chris. Since Unity is ostensibly designed to attract new users, I think the experience of new user (rather than Ubuntu veterans) should be paramount in this discussion. It is not uncommon even for relatively inexperienced computer users to say, open a bunch of documents or pdf files. If the instances are minimized, it is natural for the user to reach for the Unity bar and attempt to open an instance. In Windows 7 if you hover the mouse above the application's icon window preview will show all the instances in thumb nails and the user would simply have to choose and click one. In the Cairo dock each instance has a separate icon, it may not be very eficient but it is easy enough to use. In Unity there is no way to choose instances of minimized instances of program with simple point and click. Just no way! When you click on the icon all instances will be unminized. That is rather unsophisticated for a launcher. Yes, alt+tab and super + w + ` (not work in Natty) works fine if you already know the hot keys but it is neither obvious nor intuitive. Remember the rationale for Unity is to reach for new users and Mark Shuttleworth's ambition of reaching 200 million users. I suspect most of those new users wouldn't be keyboard jockeys and probably wouldn't be too interested in learning a whole bunch of rather arcane and arbitrary key combos to do simple task because Unity's design has focused so much on the keyboard and neglect simple point and click use cases. Finally I agree with Walter that many applications *should* have tab, but often they don't. I have yet been able to find a native Linux pdf reader that supports tab. So until the evince devs decide to create tab support what are users supposed to do if they have to cross reading a bunch of pdfs? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/896709 Title: Unity - selecting instances of a minimised application is not intuitive or simple To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/896709/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It seems that the nvidia drivers aren't loaded properly. The blacklist file has to be edited manually to de-blacklist the nvidia driver. However, for some reason when an lsmod is done, the nvidia driver still appears. It'd be nice to have the option of installing the nouveau driver if nvidia is going to be blacklisted, and to not have to use Twinview for Dual Monitor support.
