dvtc2b-2.gpfs.net: OS: Debian Linux: Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS => Kernel:
5.4.0-74-generic on s390x

--- Comment From boris.m...@de.ibm.com 2021-09-17 09:36 EDT---
I double-checked with Canonical regarding the current / in-service release
level of 20.04 LTS. The current level is 20.04.3, to be more precise 20.04.3
with Kernel 5.4.0.84. Therefore, you should try to re-produce the bug on the
20.04.3 release.

Apart from the (not supported anymore) 20.04.2 release level, a first
look on the error messages strongly hints to a GPFS error.
("vmcore/dvtc2b-2.gpfs.net_202106240332/dmesg.202106240332")

@Aleksandra: can you please confirm if GPFS is running on the system?

Thanks Krzysztof for your response. Of course, you should give Reviewed-
by and Tested-by only if you actually do it.

Sorry, if I assumed the details here. When I asked for the tags, what I
meant was that if someone from Canonical can actually review and test
the patch and then send their Reviewed-By, Tested-by. Sorry for the
misunderstanding and I hope it is clarified now.

In case it helps, I guess it should be possible to test it on any
x86/Power system by embedding your own generated key in .platform
keyring using this patch and ensure verified kexec on secure boot
enabled system.

v3 version of the patch has addressed all the concerns which are raised

This used to be important for libbpf CI (which is meant to be used as a CI for
the in-kernel BPF code too), however, in the meantime we've decided to provide
the hardware and switch from TCG to KVM, so this fix is not that necessary
anymore.

--- Comment From i...@de.ibm.com 2021-10-05 09:25 EDT---
Hi,

this issue affects only TCG (i.e. non-KVM) setups. Other repro steps
look correct, so could you please try this without KVM (preferably on
x86_64, just to be sure)?

Best regards,
Ilya

I've tested the new packages for Ubuntu Focal:

Package: s390-tools
Version: 2.12.0-0ubuntu3.4

and Ubuntu Hursuit:

Package: s390-tools
Version: 2.16.0-0ubuntu1.1

What I did:
1. Regression testing for genprotimg (e.g. verified that the generation of a
IBM Secure Execution image is still working)
2. Verified that the feature 'host-key document verification' works as expected

Indeed, the commits are on upstream 1.11.0. The release notes are
mistaken. I agree this is Fix Released in Impish.

FYI, the problem you've mentioned is already fixed upstream by commit
https://github.com/ibm-s390-linux/s390-tools/commit/6db7fbe0187042f44a63a5c7dbeb9f116909d02e

I'll try the new package tomorrow.

[Bug 1929790] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2021-09-24 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From marius.hillenbr...@ibm.com 2021-09-24 05:16 EDT---
Hello,

I have tested the new packages in hirsute on s390x and confirm that they
fix the reported bug.

Systems: s390x with hirsute and hirsute-proposed added to apt sources,
amd64 with Fedora (currently have no Ubuntu environment on an amd53
system).

TEST CASE:
- start tigervncserver :1 on s390x
- connect with VNC client (vinagre) from amd64
- start xterm, xclock, xlogo, xeyes
- connect with ssh -X from amd64 to s390x system, then start xtigervncviewer :1
on s390x

Test case executed once with tigervnc from hirsute and once again after
upgrading the tigervnc packages (tigervnc-common, tigervnc-standalone-
server, tigervnc-viewer, tigervnc-xorg-extension) to hirsute-proposed.

VERIFICATION DONE
Incorrect colors reproduce when running xtigervncviewer on s390x with X11
forwarding to amd64 with hirsute packages (i.e., bug reproduces).
Colors are displayed correctly when running xtigervncviewer on s390x with X11
forwarding to amd64 with packages from hirsute-proposed.
Colors are displayed correctly when connecting with a VNC client from amd64,
both with packages in hirsute and with the updated packages in hirsute-proposed.

[Bug 1944508] [NEW] [P10] CAS : last kernel not auto booted

2021-09-21 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

== Comment: #0 - Frederic Bonnard  - 2021-04-26 02:32:28 ==
Hi,

testing Debian/Ubuntu installation with OpenQA on a P10 LPAR with a virtual
optical device, the LPAR boots the iso till grub menu.
First entry is selected and Enter gets pressed.
The kernel starts and calls ibm,client-architecture-support .
My understanding is that either it returns or reboots with the new feature set
and in which case, the grub menu shouldn't pop out again and the last booted
kernel should be used with the same parameters.
But it is not the case at the moment, the iso grub menu pops out again.

This does not happen all the time. Sometimes the kernel does not reboot
and (maybe the required settings are ok but in this case, I don't know
how it got set).

Here is a video showing this behavior on Debian (kernel 5.10.0-6, grub 2.04,
http://d-i.debian.org/daily-images/ppc64el/daily/netboot/mini.iso).
Same on Ubuntu 20.04 daily (kernel 5.4.0-72.80, grub 2.04,
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/focal/daily-live/current/focal-live-server-ppc64el.iso)
Regards,

F.

--- Comment From fre...@de.ibm.com 2021-09-15 11:54 EDT---
Ok, with the help of Christian I finally could upgrade a system to Ubuntu 21.10.
Then I downloaded the dep files from franks build and installed them. Here is
the uname output:
root@t8314009:~# uname -a
Linux t8314009.lnxne.boe 5.13.0-14-generic #14~lp1933805-Ubuntu SMP Mon Aug 16
07:17:43 UTC 2021 s390x s390x s390x GNU/Linux
So Frank's kernel is running.

I ran my zcrypt tests and also checked that everything I would expect is
there (for example the new /sys/devices/ap/cardxx/max_msg_size sysfs
attributes).

However, as there is currently worldwide no s390 Linux system running
with access to the new crypto card generation this part of the test
needs to be postponed to a later time ... I guess, I'll have access in
about 4 weeks.

I take this as 'verified' now.

Nice try ... but I have nothing to verify. I'd at least need a git to clone
from and build my own kernel or a kernel package or whatever to verify this.
Btw. I also do not have any 21.10 ubuntu but I think a 21.04 would work also.

It would be nice to have something to verify ...
Could you please give me a git repo to pick and build from or a kernel package
which I could install ? And please note that as of now I don't have any access
to a 21.10 ubuntu either. However, I think I could use a 21.04 for the
verification if I would get something to verify.

I cloned the kernel as indicated with comment #18 and did
- check out the only branch master-next
- a code verification for the subdir drivers/s390/crypto
I compared this with an upstream kernel and checked that all the patches
are applied correctly and that the code level is showing what I would expect
and nothing more. Looks good to me.
- kernel build and install and ran my internal ap/zcrypt test suite.
No issues found - looks good to me.

So I assume this is verified now.

fyi, since it is still vacation time we need to wait for some colleagues

Furthermore, I've requested an update on the PR.

Hi @paride,

@lamm is out of the office, so let me try to reply to your comment.

Nice catch!
I confirmed the tests do pass with RDMAV_FORK_SAFE=1.

I also verified the fix has been integrated and the issue has been
fixed.

With that said, I'm closing the issue on my side.

Thanks!

Problem could not be reproduced by Canonical. Further detailed information
requested by Canonical was not provided to them since May.
In the meantime, the new point release Ubuntu Server LTS 20.04.3 is available.
This means that 20.04.2 which the bug was opened against, has become obsolete.
Therefore, closing / rejecting the bug.

I also tested the qemu in impish-proposed (6.0+dfsg-2expubuntu1) and it does
work. With a private kernel I also do get the new features, with the one in
impish I do not get the new facility bits and it seems that the host kernel
still lacks these 2 commits:

1f703d2cf2046 KVM: s390: allow facility 192 (vector-packed-decimal-enhancement
facility 2)
a3efa84292660 KVM: s390: gen_facilities: allow facilities 165, 193, 194 and 196

PS: the model number 3931 inside the guest and gen16a/b does work with QEMU, so
its really just the kernel that misses 2 commits.
Do we have a separate bug for that?

Disregard what I said, I forgot that stfle 158 is in fact a prereq for the uv
sysfs interface...

After moving the guest to secure mode the files showed up and had the right
contents.
The files for a host also have the correct contents with PV enabled and without.

Verification failed.

I installed a Ubuntu 20.04 guest and enabled focal-proposed which bumped
up my kernel to 5.4.0-83-generic.

There's no "uv" directory in /sys/firmware/ on that kernel version.

I also tried the linked 5.4.0-81 deb with the same results.

--- Comment From boris.m...@de.ibm.com 2021-08-19 06:35 EDT---
Despite the initial concern because of the amount of fixes, Canonical managed
to get this feature (systemd part) into Impish 21.10.
This way, we will have the full functionality of this feature and don't have to
add a release note regarding limitations.
Therefore, changing Target Milestone back from 22.04 -> 21.10

Enabled proposed on a 21.04 host and updated the kernel to "5.11.0-33-generic

If PV is disabled both prot_virt_* files show 0.
If PV is enabled prot_virt_host shows 1 and prot_virt_guest shows 0.
If queried on a secure guest prot_virt_guest shows one and _host shows 0.

Code is successfully verified.

This feature (systemd part) will not be integrated in 21.10 (see comment #6
and#7), therefore moving to U22.04.
Canonical will add a release note to reflect changes and limitations due to the
fact, that only the kernel part of this feature will make it into 21.10.

Which is a rework of the ap bus core code and the zcrypt device driver.

All the other patches are cherry pick of the patches needed to have
these applied cleanly.

Please note also, that all the patches I attached together with the
series file are extracts from the upstream kernel and the patch header
includes all information to match them to the original upstream commit.
Most of the patches do not even have any modifications.

I can't think of any more reductions to provide the fix for the 'EP11
cards going offline' issue.

[Bug 1932010] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2021-08-11 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From i...@de.ibm.com 2021-08-11 14:45 EDT---
Oh, sorry, I forgot that you can't use the IBM BZ links. I indeed had the
following diffs in mind:

1.
#ifndef Z_IFUNC_ASM
local
#endif
-unsigned long (*(crc32_z_ifunc(void)))(unsigned long, const unsigned char FAR
*, z_size_t)
+unsigned long (*(crc32_z_ifunc(
+#ifdef __s390__
+unsigned long hwcap
+#else
+void
+#endif
+)))(unsigned long, const unsigned char FAR *, z_size_t)
{
#if _ARCH_PWR8==1
#if defined(__BUILTIN_CPU_SUPPORTS__)

2.
#endif
#endif /* _ARCH_PWR8 */

+#ifdef HAVE_S390X_VX
+if (hwcap & HWCAP_S390_VX)
+return s390_crc32_vx;
+#endif
+
/* return a function pointer for optimized arches here */

3.
static unsigned long ZEXPORT (*crc32_func)(unsigned long, const unsigned char
FAR *, z_size_t) = NULL;

if (!crc32_func)
-crc32_func = crc32_z_ifunc();
+crc32_func = crc32_z_ifunc(
+#ifdef __s390__
+getauxval(AT_HWCAP)
+#endif
+);
return (*crc32_func)(crc, buf, len);
}

I think the latest debdiff still misses the second one (the getauxval()
call is still there):

++#if defined(__s390__) && defined(S390_CRC32_VX)
++if (getauxval(AT_HWCAP) & HWCAP_S390_VX)
++return s390_crc32_vx;
++#endif

A couple nits:
- changelog: it's dfltcc, not dltss (yeah, the name is super weird :-))
- "/* Work around a probable bug in glibc when invoking getauxval in the ifunc
*/" - I don't think it's actually a bug, since
https://sourceware.org/glibc/wiki/GNU_IFUNC says that:

When LD_BIND_NOW=1 or -Wl,z,now is in effect symbols must be immediately
resolved at startup. In cases where an external function call depends
needs to be made that may fail if such a call has not been initialized
yet (PLT-based relocation which is processed later). For example calling
strlen in an IFUNC resolver built with -Wl,z,now may lead to a segfault
because the PLT is not yet resolved. This may work on x86_64 where the
R_*_IRELATIVE relocations happen in DT_JMPREL after the DT_REL*
relocations, but that is no guarantee that it will work on AArch64,
PPC64, or other architectures that are slightly different. Such
fundamental limitations may be lifted at a future point.

What's surprising is rather that, given this paragraph, the code
nevertheless works and there doesn't seem to be an obvious glibc commit
that lifts this limitation.

--- Comment From i...@de.ibm.com 2021-08-11 10:36 EDT---
I think it rather has to do with glibc - ifunc are normally called quite early
and therefore cannot use the dynamically resolved symbols, but maybe newer
glibcs tolerate that. Unfortunately I couldn't find more information on this
subject. The code seems to work, but just to be on the safe side I'd rather
switch to the "old way" of doing things, that involves the hwcap argument:

However, I'm not quite sure why does

++#ifdef S390_CRC32_VX
++if (getauxval(AT_HWCAP) & HWCAP_S390_VX)
++return s390_crc32_vx;
++#endif

work. For me getauxval() causes a segfault when called from an ifunc,
that's why I have to use the s390-specific ifunc's hwcap parameter.

> Do you have any suggestion on how I can reproduce the "rpmem_fip/TEST0"
> issue you are hitting? Thanks!

Hi @paride. I spent some time trying to identify the issue. Indeed it occurs
with
the provided package. Here is some steps to test it:

1. Install the provided librpmem and libfabric
2. Clone PMDK repository https://github.com/pmem/pmdk.git
3. Checkout to branch stable-1.10
4. Compile
5. Configure src/test/testconfig.sh. I will put an example on the end of the
message
- To do that copy the testconfig.sh.example to testconfig.sh. Fill it with the
configurations for your system.
- Be sure to set the variable PMDK_LIB_PATH_NONDEBUG with the path to
librpmem.so.
- As you are not on a DAX device use PMEM_FS_DIR_FORCE_PMEM=1.
- As this will be a librpmem test we need to configure the node variables. Also
ssh keys must be configured to access the nodes without password. For example,
using the testconfig.sh bellow you will need to run "ssh-copy-id 127.0.0.1"
6. Inside the src/test/ directory run "./RUNTESTS -b nondebug rpmem_fip -s
TEST0". This will run only one rpmem_fip/TEST0 for nondebug. It's enough to
reproduce the
error

Here is an example of testconfig.sh:

PMEM_FS_DIR=/tmp/pmem-fs.d
NON_PMEM_FS_DIR=/tmp/non-pmem-fs.d
PMEM_FS_DIR_FORCE_PMEM=1

I have enhanced the opencryptoki EC testcases to perform some tests with
invalid EC keys, to trigger that the key check code is executed.

Please take a look at this commit in my github clone of opencryptoki:
https://github.com/ifranzki/opencryptoki/commit/779df741f1724c9276ea90bd760f0dd4d7733fc2

Please not that some of the tests may also pass without the EC key check
fix (i.e. get an expected error, but maybe from another place or for
another reason in the code), but at least with the fix it will run
through the EC key check code added by the fix.

I will eventually also make this testcase enhancement available in the
master branch of opencryptoki, once you confirmed that it is what you
are looking for.

[Bug 1931063] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

--- Comment From l...@ibm.com 2021-07-29 10:36 EDT---
@pride I'm getting the above issue with the librpmem tests. I've tried testing
the upstream code and the issue still stays on Ubuntu. However I don't get this
on other distros, so I'm suspecting it's some libfabric issue.

rpmem_fip/TEST0: SETUP (check/none/nondebug/sockets/GPSPM)
A process has executed an operation involving a call
to the fork() system call to create a child process.

As a result, the libfabric EFA provider is operating in
a condition that could result in memory corruption or
other system errors.

For the libfabric EFA provider to work safely when fork()
is called, you will need to set the following environment
variable:
RDMAV_FORK_SAFE

However, setting this environment variable can result in
signficant performance impact to your application due to
increased cost of memory registration.

You may want to check with your application vendor to see
if an application-level alternative (of not using fork)
exists.

Your job will now abort.

Thanks @paride! Sure, I will test it here.
