[Bug 1828107] Re: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1
Xubuntu 22.04.1 after upgrading from 20.04 In order to get multiple Windows 10 systems to "discover" the samba shares on two different Xubuntu systems, I had to re-enable SMB1 protocol on all the Windows systems. Microsoft apparently keeps disabling this on system updates. As reported above, old Windows mapped drive assignments made to Ubuntu samba shares have continued to work over time, but new shares cannot be seen unless SMB1 is enabled. of course, this should all just work using newer secure protocols. [Bug 1974254] Re: Probles with Clutter
Tim, I followed your advice and yes, that fixed most of the problems I was having. Apparently there was a system update that required a reboot, but there was an error and it just said all updates applied. This has occurred on the past couple of updates that didn't have too many changes, but something clearly got screwed up. I should have done this reboot myself, but I've become too comfortable believing the package manager. I won't make that mistake again. So that appears to resolve the issue. [Bug 1967702] [NEW] Accessibility features have been disabled, modules like speakup_soft and others are missing
Public bug reported: From very old versions of Kernel for Ubuntu until version 5.13, accessibility features were enabled, allowing blind users to use screen readers in text mode, such as "speakup" via "espeakup" package. In Kernels 5.15 packages for Ubuntu 22.04 beta, such as "linux-image-5.15.0-23-generic", accessibility features are disabled (no justification for such occurrence was listed in the file "changelog.Debian.gz"), with this the espeakup application doesn't work, it depends on the missing speakup_soft module. Ollo; sorry to take so long to get back to you but I have ran the cd-r test. *Do you experience the problem with CD-R or CD-RW media ?* Yes. The exact same error message as when I tried to make a DVD. *Does it help to blank the CD medium before using it with Brasero: xorriso -outdev /dev/sr0 -blank as_needed* Unfortunately No. Tried twice and the same error Message. Did the Power off/on Cycle and that also had no effect. Thanks for your help and hoping that some solution comes up. [Bug 1918375] Re: Obscure Window Manager Problem [Enhancement]
Not getting much attention here! :-) Here is some additional information that might be useful. I was having problems with new windows being created and hidden underneath existing windows. In a forum discussion it was suggested to turn off (uncheck) the "Activate focus stealing prevention" on the "Window Manager Tweaks->Focus" tab. This indeed was the problem and once unchecked, new windows were consistently created on the top of the stack. However, this does not address the problem of moving a window that is lower or at the bottom of the window stack to another workspace using keyboard shortcuts. The moving window may still disappear beneath other windows higher in the stack. I have "Raise window when clicking inside application window" set so any attempt to drag a window with the mouse forces it to the top of the stack. My suggestion is that if the user has this option set, that it then also imply that any window movement initiated by a keyboard shortcut also causes the window to be raised so that it will float above all other windows as the virtual desktops (workspaces) change. Unchecking this option would leave the keyboard shortcut action as is. Of course, it would be clearer for everyone involved if this raise-on- window-movement option was given it's own option in the Window Manager or the Window Manager Tweaks menu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1918375 Title: Obscure Window Manager Problem [Enhancement] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfwm4/+bug/1918375/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for getting back to me. So a question to ask *Brasero's bad read attempt spoiled the two ASUS drives until they got a power-off-on cycle. If the drive is built into the computer this means a power-off-on cycle of the computer, i fear* What does doing a power off/on cycle entail ??? Hi Thomas; Thank you very much for getting back to me. So will try to answer your questions. Some of which may be delayed due to me having to run test. *- What is the vendor, model, revision of your drive. You may obtain it from the empty drive by* xorriso : NOTE : Disc status unsuitable for writing Drive current: -outdev '/dev/sr0' Media current: is not recognizable Media status : is not present Drive type : vendor 'ASUS' product 'BW-16D1HT' revision '3.10' *- Do you experience the problem with CD-R or CD-RW media ? If so:* * - What happens if you use a writable DVD medium instead ?* * - Does it help to blank the CD medium before using it with Brasero:* * xorriso -outdev /dev/sr0 -blank as_needed* Will Run these test shortly and get back to you with the results *- Do you experience the problem with other GUI programs like K3B or Xfburn ? - Do you experience the problem with a run of xorriso ? ISO="...path.to.your.iso.image.file..." xorriso -as cdrecord -v dev=/dev/sr0 blank=as_needed "$ISO"* Have not tried K3B or Xfburn. Did try Nero for Linux and had the same result as I did with Brasero. Thank you very much for the assistance. Talk shortly. [Bug 1962018] [NEW] pypy3compile errors during postinst confuses user
Public bug reported: Could you add some clarifying output in the postinst around pypy3compile failures to give context to an end user? The errors as they stand don't indicate that this is pyp3 specific and can be concerning (they also give the impression that QA isn't catching basic python bugs which isn't the case). pypy3 support was added to dh-python3 towards the end of 2018 as "WIP" such that postinst will call `pypy3compile $PACKAGE || true` to ignore errors if pypy3 is installed. I was talking with a user that saw this fail when installing an update for python3-software-properties and the error message was cause for concern and confusion, for that package it looked like this: Setting up python3-software-properties (0.99.19) ... Failed to byte-compile /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/softwareproperties/extendedsourceslist.py: File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/softwareproperties/extendedsourceslist.py", line 436 def __init__(self, sourceslist=None, /, files=None): ^ SyntaxError: invalid syntax (expected ')') That's all fine, the author has introduced the positional-only parameter (PEP570) new to python 3.8 and that's supported in cpython shipped by default in the distro, but it isn't supported by pypy3. I think it's reasonable for the maintainer of a package to decide that they want to use new features and that they might not have testing with pypy3 installed as a requirement. The fact that the failure is pypy3compile and not python3compile isn't communicated for the failure nor that it's optional. The user might think that the package is broken for the default interpreter. Would you consider adding a message before each compilation step to call out which interpreter is byte-compiling the module as well as pypy3 being optional/best-effort and may fail? Preferably you might also indicate the impact (i.e. the package is usable with the system python3 interpreter but pypy3) to set expectations with the end user. Thank you Piotr! ** Affects: dh-python (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1962018 Title: pypy3compile errors during postinst confuses user To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dh-python/+bug/1962018/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1959445] [NEW] DHCPD gets confused about what IPs should be handed out on what interfaces
Public bug reported: I had a device request an IP on one VLAN (one interface associated with the server -- ens256), and then I moved the device to a different VLAN (interface ens192 on the server), and was surprised when the DHCPD process continued to hand out the same IP on the new VLAN. I am so glad to hear this is now being worked. Thank you. As for a name, how about the term Chrome uses when you right click a URL bookmark in your library, which is "Show in Folder." I am not sure how you wish to implement, but if you just open Chrome I think it does it well. I'm not as happy with their bookmarks mgr as with the FFox Library, but the "show in folder" feature works nicely. When you click it, you just move to the folder containing the bookmark in question. The folder is highlighted in the folder tree and all bookmarks in the highlighted folder, including the one you are interested in, are shown. Check it out. [Bug 1931312] Re: i386 version of libpipewire-0.3 for Ubuntu Focal 20.04
First, sorry for the noise in opening this issue. Due to confusion trying to figure out the cause of the problem, I ended up discovering the optional environment variable STEAM_RUNTIME=0 and erroneously assuming this was the correct way. (Steam doesn't have a --help and I couldn't find any documentation. https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/7849 ) One of the Steam maintainers pointed out to me that Steam sends the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of several libraries and that in short STEAM_RUNTIME=0 will make Steam not use the libraries sent by Steam but try to check them directly in the libraries installed at OS level. The full explanation can be seen in https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/7813#issuecomment-857851359 https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for- linux/issues/7847#issuecomment-857863961 I believe this issue can be CLOSED WITHOUT A FIX since running STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam generates a 'missing library' false positive, and Valve does not officially support this option. ### Steam users who read this topic: >> The comments below are only valid for the >> Steam Client build: Jun 8 2021, at 22:23:41 >> Steam API v020. >> Steam Package versions: 1623193086 In my case, Steam wouldn't open due to a bug that occurs when the option to save Steam password is checked. To solve this, run: steam --reset Open Steam again, and make sure you don't check the option to save the password. The above command will force Steam to delete the entire steam-runtime and download and install it again. Note: The --reset command does not affect installed games. Another way to have the same fix without reinstall steam-runtime is to open ~/.steam/registry.vdf and change Registry.HKCU.Software.Valve.Steam.RememberPassword from "1" to "0" ** Bug watch added: github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues #7849 https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/7849 ** Bug watch added: github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues #7813 https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/7813 ** Bug watch added: github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues #7847 https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/7847 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1931312 Title: i386 version of libpipewire-0.3 for Ubuntu Focal 20.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pipewire/+bug/1931312/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Regarding my previous comment, disregard the issue about Windows 10 having problems accessing the Samba shares. This turned out to be a strange password problem with samba. [Bug 1828107] Re: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1
Just to add another voice to the crowd, I'm on Xubuntu 20.04 and I just ran across this problem myself. I am using the Nemo file browser, but the same thing occurs with Nautilus and Thunar. I didn't notice the problem for a long while because I had three legacy Windows machines on the network (all running Windows 10 at this point) and had made file browser bookmarks to the important shares long ago. These bookmarks have continued to work to this day without issue. I got a new Windows 10 machine a few weeks ago and was having the problem everyone reports of not being able to connect ("Failed to retrieve share list from server") on the new machine, even though all the existing bookmarks were still functioning file. All of the Windows 10 machines were able to see one another without problem. Then I ran across this thread and tried Bloodyiron's suggestion of killing the gvfsd-smb-browse process. Immediately I was able to connect to the new machine using Nemo. I quickly created some needed bookmarks to the important shares and now I can communicate using the file browser and expect the new bookmarks to be as reliable as the others. So I would suggest this bookmark method to others as a workaround. This supports Craig W's comment about the difference between discovery and browsing. When I run "smbclient -L // -U ", it reports all of the shares on the target, whether Windows or Linux, with the closing message: "SMB1 disabled -- no workgroup available" as expected. Unfortunately, this is only a one-way solution. All of the legacy Windows 10 machines can see and access the Samba shares on the Xubuntu box, but I haven't yet figured out a way to get the new Windows machine to access these same shares, with or without gvfsd-smb-browse running. Every connection attempt is rejected and I haven't found useful messages in the logs. If I figure out a solution, I'll post here, and I'm open to suggestions. I agree with the general sentiment that for a service as important as this, there isn't any real excuse for this thing dragging out for two years as it has. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1828107 Title: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gvfs/+bug/1828107/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Could not open (any of): ! http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/seeds/ubuntu.focal/desktop-minimal-zh ! http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/seeds/ubuntu.focal/languages/desktop-minimal-zh ! http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/seeds/platform.focal/desktop-minimal-zh A retry of the build succeeded, SRU should proceed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881006 Title: Incorrect ESP mount options To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-images/+bug/1881006/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1915345] Re: [SRU] eic_harvest_hostkeys fails in local zones
I've left a comment in the upstream bug https://github.com/aws/aws-ec2 -instance-connect-config/issues/28#issuecomment-816650597 regarding my SRU test feedback. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1915345 Title: [SRU] eic_harvest_hostkeys fails in local zones To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ec2-instance-connect/+bug/1915345/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1915345] Re: [SRU] eic_harvest_hostkeys fails in local zones
I have tested in AWS local zone us-west-2-lax-1a xenial: image: ami-008b09448b998a562 build serial: 20201014 ec2-instance-connect 1.1.12+dfsg1-0ubuntu3~16.04.2 bionic: image: ami-02701bcdc5509e57b build serial: 20210224 ec2-instance-connect 1.1.12+dfsg1-0ubuntu3~18.04.2 focal: image: ami-0ca5c3bd5a268e7db build serial: 20210223 ec2-instance-connect 1.1.12+dfsg1-0ubuntu3.20.04.1 groovy: image: ami-0c1204e0c5e73ef4c build serial: 20210325 ec2-instance-connect 1.1.12+dfsg1-0ubuntu3.20.10.1 Are you sure this is right? Yes, the systemd unit no longer fails because the patch ignored the script failure, but does it *work*? The package update has no changes to /usr/share/ec2-instance- connect/eic_harvest_hostkeys to match the string format for a local zone still. So while the feature is available in local and wavelength zones the package in -proposed fails to address the underlying failure and so ec2-instance-connect still broken in those zones (just silently now). Again, here is the failure: $ sudo sh -x /usr/share/ec2-instance-connect/eic_harvest_hostkeys 2>&1 | tail -9 + /usr/bin/curl -s -f -m 1 -H X-aws-ec2-metadata-token: AQAEAF6AxckVUQFPqe3ivPjLa0b7dlvf4To2TaAReHD-lMpqgvuXBQ== http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/placement/availability-zone/ + zone=us-west-2-lax-1b + zone_exit=0 + [ 0 -ne 0 ] + /bin/echo us-west-2-lax-1b + /usr/bin/head -n 1 + /bin/grep -Eq ^([a-z]+-){2,3}[0-9][a-z]$ + exit 255 + rm -rf /dev/shm/eic-hostkey-WZBt1Vck Please look at the grep on line 101 of the script: # Validate the zone /bin/echo "${zone}" | /usr/bin/head -n 1 | /bin/grep -Eq "^([a-z]+-){2,3}[0-9][a-z]$" || exit 255 The script needs to handle matches to the existing regex, but also local zones like 'us-west-2-lax-1b' and wavelength zones like 'us-west-2-wl1 -den-wlz-1' -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1915345 Title: [SRU] eic_harvest_hostkeys fails in local zones To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ec2-instance-connect/+bug/1915345/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
