[Bug 35248] Re: Regression: CUPS does not print to HP Deskjet 3745
My printer does not print since I upgraded Ubuntu to 18.04.1 about 10 October 2018. I have followed advice in over 30 emails from several guys using ubuntu-users list without success. The error "Filter failed" keeps appearing. I am a retired end user of Ubuntu since 2004, but still do not know much about linux or cups or debian. So I finally read some of the advice in https://wiki.debian.org/DissectingandDebuggingtheCUPSPrintingSystem and started to do some steps but got very lost. The printer works well if I switch to Windows 7 but that is little use because that has very few apps in it. I am quite sure this problem can be solved but I only have the skills to do terminal commands that I can copy and paste. Please help me get this printer to work again -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/35248 Title: Regression: CUPS does not print to HP Deskjet 3745 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/35248/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 527157] Re: Brightness controls skips Levels.
This bug seems to have gone stale (again?), but I'd like to report that it affects me with: * 13.10, fully updated * Thinkpad T440p (FHD panel, if that matters) Using the slider in Settings Brightness Lock, it seems that there is ~15 brightness levels (it's hard to get an exact count, since each level is pretty subtle, and the mechanics of manipulating the slider aren't the most precise). However, using the screen brightness media keys (doubling as F5 and F6), I can distinguish between only 4 brightness levels. Each press of these keys pops up the brightness overlay/notification in the upper-right, and the bar there changes properly, but the actual screen brightness changes in a step function, rather than linearly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/527157 Title: Brightness controls skips Levels. [Bug 1026046] Re: Missing support for thumb resting on bottom of clickpad
Confirmed with a 4,2 Macbook Air. Thankfully I have a trackball in hand most of the time, but this is definitely the biggest drawback I've encountered so far since switching from OS X a couple of days ago. FWIW, xf86-input-mtrack has recently added two options that sound promising: * IgnoreThumb - Whether or not to ignore touches that are determined to be thumbs. Boolean value. Defaults to false. * BottomEdge - The size of an area at the bottom of the trackpad where new touches are ignored (fingers traveling into this area from above will still be tracked). This is represented as a percentage of the total trackpad height. Defaults to 10. I don't have the heart at the moment to attempt to swap out the synaptics driver for xf86-input-mtrack (the .deb I found looks like it depends upon an experimental xorg input abi); hopefully a fix for this comes along before I get desperate enough to try... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1026046 Title: Missing support for thumb resting on bottom of clickpad To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1026046/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1206900] [NEW] Kernel crash with Logitech K760 Bluetooth keyboard
Public bug reported: I have a Logitech K760 Bluetooth keyboard. This keyboard has three buttons that allow you to connect to three different machines via Bluetooth. I have button three mapped to my Ubuntu box. When I hit button one and then quickly hit button three, the kernel crashes. If I wait a long period of time, it does not crash. The logs (see end for full trace) seem to indicate that there is a problem with the kernel trying to create file that already exists: sysfs: cannot create duplicate filename '/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.7/2-1.7:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:21' I assume this is happening because the kernel has yet to clean up after the disconnection before the device tries to reconnect. My current workaround is to wait a while before hitting button 3 when I accidentally hit button 1. It would be nice if I reduce the timeout before the kernel cleans up the after the device to shorten the period of time I have to wait. [Bug 1206900] Re: Kernel crash with Logitech K760 Bluetooth keyboard
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I have a Logitech K760 Bluetooth keyboard. This keyboard has three buttons that allow you to connect to three different machines via Bluetooth. I have button three mapped to my Ubuntu box. When I hit button one and then quickly hit button three, the kernel crashes. If I wait a long period of time, it does not crash. The logs (see end for full trace) seem to indicate that there is a problem with the kernel trying to create file that already exists: sysfs: cannot create duplicate filename '/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.7/2-1.7:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:21' I assume this is happening because the kernel has yet to clean up after the disconnection before the device tries to reconnect. My current workaround is to wait a while before hitting button 3 when I accidentally hit button 1. It would be nice if I reduce the timeout before the kernel cleans up the after the device to shorten the period of time I have to wait. Here I have hit button 1 and waited a few seconds: Jul 31 07:25:01 LD-cowens kernel: [ 199.114124] power_supply hid-00:1f:20:3d:cf:09-battery: driver failed to report `capacity' property: -5 Jul 31 07:25:06 LD-cowens kernel: [ 204.105779] power_supply hid-00:1f:20:3d:cf:09-battery: driver failed to report `capacity' property: -5 Then I hit button 3: Jul 31 07:25:31 LD-cowens kernel: [ 229.279867] hid-generic 0005:046D:B316.0006: unknown main item tag 0x0 Jul 31 07:25:31 LD-cowens kernel: [ 229.293875] input: Logitech K760 as /devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.7/2-1.7:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:21/input16 Jul 31 07:25:31 LD-cowens kernel: [ 229.294115] hid-generic 0005:046D:B316.0006: input,hidraw4: BLUETOOTH HID v1.1b Keyboard [Logitech K760] on 00:02:72:dd:e9:e1 Hit button 1 and wait a few seconds: Jul 31 07:25:47 LD-cowens kernel: [ 244.558409] power_supply hid-00:1f:20:3d:cf:09-battery: driver failed to report `capacity' property: -5 Jul 31 07:25:52 LD-cowens kernel: [ 249.550056] power_supply hid-00:1f:20:3d:cf:09-battery: driver failed to report `capacity' property: -5 Hit button 3: Jul 31 07:26:15 LD-cowens kernel: [ 272.731818] hid-generic 0005:046D:B316.0007: unknown main item tag 0x0 Jul 31 07:26:15 LD-cowens kernel: [ 272.770990] input: Logitech K760 as /devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.7/2-1.7:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:21/input17 Jul 31 07:26:15 LD-cowens kernel: [ 272.771187] hid-generic 0005:046D:B316.0007: input,hidraw4: BLUETOOTH HID v1.1b Keyboard [Logitech K760] on 00:02:72:dd:e9:e1 Hit button 1 and then button 3 without waiting long: Jul 31 07:26:39 LD-cowens kernel: [ 296.631605] power_supply hid-00:1f:20:3d:cf:09-battery: driver failed to report `capacity' property: -5 Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165703] [ cut here ] Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165714] WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-3.8.0/fs/sysfs/dir.c:536 sysfs_add_one+0xb6/0xf0() Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165717] Hardware name: HP Elite 7100 Microtower PC Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165720] sysfs: cannot create duplicate filename '/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.7/2-1.7:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:21' Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165722] Modules linked in: hidp btusb ath3k parport_pc(F) ppdev(F) rfcomm bnep bluetooth snd_hda_codec_hdmi snd_hda_codec_realtek coretemp radeon kvm_intel kvm snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_hwdep(F) snd_pcm(F) snd_page_alloc(F) snd_seq_midi(F) snd_seq_midi_event(F) snd_rawmidi(F) ttm wmi drm_kms_helper snd_seq(F) snd_seq_device(F) drm snd_timer(F) gpio_ich snd(F) joydev(F) mac_hid mei lpc_ich i2c_algo_bit soundcore(F) lp(F) parport(F) psmouse(F) serio_raw(F) microcode(F) hid_generic usbhid hid firewire_ohci firewire_core r8169 ahci(F) libahci(F) crc_itu_t(F) Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165784] Pid: 7, comm: kworker/u:0H Tainted: GF3.8.0-27-generic #40-Ubuntu Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165786] Call Trace: Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165796] [c104a502] warn_slowpath_common+0x72/0xa0 Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165802] [c11c1076] ? sysfs_add_one+0xb6/0xf0 Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165807] [c11c1076] ? sysfs_add_one+0xb6/0xf0 Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165813] [c104a5d3] warn_slowpath_fmt+0x33/0x40 Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165818] [c11c1076] sysfs_add_one+0xb6/0xf0 Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165823] [c11c1248] create_dir+0x58/0xa0 Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165829] [c11c153b] sysfs_create_dir+0x7b/0xd0 Jul 31 07:26:40 LD-cowens kernel: [ 298.165835] [c12e91f3]

[Bug 1059633] Re: Emacs 'Ediff' Window Shrinks Horizontally To One Column Wide
Workaround I use: after starting ediff-buffers, or ediff-files, for example: 1) ctrl-alt-num pad 5 -- this maximizes the small ediff window to whole screen; it contains text 'type ? for help' 2) type ?-- this brings up the help text; this window still fills up whole screen 3) type ?-- this minimizes ediff window; on my system, this little ediff window is not visible at all now 4) proceed w/ ediff session -- ediff responds as though commands were typed into little ediff window even though it is not visible. Typing ? again brings up help text in a window that fills whole screen, then type ? again to make it go away. *Note* if, in the middle of ediff session, user switches to different window, by using alt-tab for instance, then comes back to emacs, the focus will no longer be in the small ediff window, but in the emacs frame itself. Re: [Bug 552505] Re: Evolution opens and freezes. No folders shown
Pedro, Thanks for your advice. I read the instructions at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash to upload the backtrace. My version is Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS \n \l 1. My Linux skills are not good enough to do all that. 2. As this email proves, Evolution is behaving normally again. Maybe I just needed to power down and reboot? 3. The last line of the instructions How do we remove all this stuff after getting the trace and get back to a normal system? scares me too. 4. If the problem repeats I will get a friend to help me do the backtrace. I am looking forward to the next LTS version. Ubuntu 10.04? No folders shown Date: Tue, 06 Apr 2010 12:55:06 - Thanks for the report, there's no way to fix a bug without the proper information which was not added to this bug report, please try to obtain a backtrace of that freeze following the instructions at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem. Or try to reproduce the same with Lucid. [Bug 552505] [NEW] Evolution opens and freezes. No folders shown
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution 1. I updated Ubuntu 8.04 online yesterday as notified and today Evolution will not respond after opening. No folders are shown. 2. Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron - released in April 2008. Evolution Version 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1 from Synaptic 3. I expected to fetch email from my ISP's POP server 4. Evolution froze showing no folders and did not respond to anything except closing with X and then I had to force quit. I rely heavily on processing my commercial emails and have many filed in Evolution . Hope you can find a fix quickly . Thanks for Ubuntu's excellent features. [Bug 347765] Re: Update manager reporting errors
In Ubuntu 8.04 I have had a similar warning several times in the last couple of days. I get notification that updates are available and click check then the following message appears. [Bug 351774] Re: nForce 430 (MCP61) ethernet does not work
Same problem on nForce 430. Heron worked but have not been able to ever get it working on later releases. It is a complete show stopper since it is extremely difficult to debug with no connection. I have tried various fixes from forums with no success. -- nForce 430 (MCP61) ethernet does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351774 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
