[Bug 1727733] [NEW] Screen acts strangely when clicking Dash icon

2017-10-26 Thread Claes Trygger
Public bug reported:

I'm new to Ubuntu One so I don't really know what info to submit, but my
problem is as follows:

Everything seems to work just fine in 16.04 - except for one thing:
Dash. When I click the icon (or press the superkey) the screen goes sort
of crazy: coloured strips and odd stuff appear. Sometimes the computer
freezes and I have to start all over again; sometimes it is possible to
save the day by (fairly quickly)clicking the Dash icon once again - and
sometimes things work out by themselves. I have searched for a solution
on the internet, but in vain. Maybe it has something to do with memory
mapping?

Computer info: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ with 3 GB RAM (I think it
was originally 1 GB but I extended it some years ago) in HP Pavilion
3510no desktop (old stuff; probably at least 10 years old). Graphics
Gallium 0.4 on NV 46 (according to Settings - what do I know ...)

[Bug 1385271] Re: Error authenticating some packages

2016-09-22 Thread Claes Wallin
Still getting this when going 14.04->16.04. It complained about my
kernel image package. I upgraded to the latest kernel, removed all older
kernel packages, now it complained about my fresh installed kernel
package.

What does this even mean? What is it authenticating?

Trying the disabling config from the comments above.

2015-06-29 Thread Claes
My computer wouldn't boot after upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10. Picking an
older kernel resolved that bit, and then the error reporting lands me
here.

After some debugging, installing memdiskfind and running dpkg
--configure -a the boot issue got resolved. Not sure if the problem are
related really, but maybe it helps someone.

[Bug 591823] Re: File descriptor \d+ (\S+) leaked on lvs invocation.

2015-05-18 Thread Claes Wallin
Yep, still getting this tty spam multiple times every time update-grub
runs from apt. Not when running update-grub, not when running dpkg-
reconfigure linux-image-*, only when running apt install. So probably
this should be a bug on apt.

Suppressing it by setting LVM_SUPPRESS_FD_WARNINGS works, of course, but
I would be happy if someone could suggest a way for setting it
implicitly when running sudo apt upgrade. sudo -i apt upgrade works, but
I keep forgetting to do it. :-)

Thank you Daniel and Theodore for your feedback!

I tried merging pu into maint the other day, but it didn't apply
cleanly. I will try again later.

When I get around to trying it out, I will go with your recommendation
and use the latest mainline.

The change done to alsa-base.conf was a suggestion from askubuntu.com.
The mic input worked neither before nor after the change, which was:

echo options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-dmic | sudo tee -a

sudo alsa force-reload

[Bug 1373808] [NEW] [UX301LAA, Realtek ALC282, Black Headphone Out, Left] Microphone problem

2014-09-25 Thread Claes
Public bug reported:

I asked my question on askubuntu.com, and it was suggested that my
problem was a bug, so reporting here.

According to the specs
(http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_ZENBOOK_UX301LA/specifications/),
my laptop has a Microphone-in/Headphone-out jack.

I also have two different headsets, both of which works just fine as a
headset when used with my phone.

However, Ubuntu doesn't appear to recognize the headset as having a
microphone.

Under Sound and the Output tab, the only item listed changes from
Speakers Built-in Audio to Headphones Built-in Audio when connected.

The input tab shows no reaction at all to the headset being connected.
It lists Microphone Build-in Audio and Analog input Built-in Audio.
Both the input options clearly take audio from the computers built in
microphone, rather the headsets. Tapping the laptop gives large spikes
on the Input level indicator, while tapping the microphone on the
headset gives little to no response.

What can I do to get the headset recognized?

[Bug 1349020] Re: inline_data option on ext4 truncates symlinks

2014-08-20 Thread Claes Wallin
The bug has been fixed in -proposed.

Performed the test in the bug description. The `128` file accurately
points to a 128 bytes long filename. Double-checked that the file system
was actually using -O inline_data. Disk usage reflects it as well:

# du ext4{,_inline}/test{/*,}
4 ext4/test/128
4 ext4/test/192
4 ext4/test/64
4 ext4/test
0 ext4_inline/test/128

0 ext4_inline/test/64

That fixes the bug. Even symlinks created by the faulty kernel will be
interpreted correctly by the fixed kernel, as the fault is in reading,
not in writing.

[Bug 1349020] [NEW] inline_data option on ext4 truncates symlinks

2014-07-26 Thread Claes Wallin
Public bug reported:

To replicate the bug, create two filesystems, one with `mkfs.ext4 -I
256`, one with `mkfs.ext4 -I 256 -O inline_data`. An inode size of 256
bytes is the default, but included here for clarity. To do this, you are
going to need an `e2fsprogs` from trunk, or version 1.43 if it has been
released.

Mount the two filesystems, in each of them do:
$ ln -s $(for i in {1..64}; do echo -n .; done) 64
$ ln -s $(for i in {1..128}; do echo -n .; done) 128
$ ln -s $(for i in {1..192}; do echo -n .; done) 192
$ ls -l 64 128 192

Both directory listings will show symlinks named `64`, `128` and `256`,
each pointing to a filename with the corresponding amount of dots. This
is the expected behavior.

Unmount both filesystems, mount them again. Do the `ls -l` again.

The default filesystem will show the same output as previously, the one
with inline_data activated will show the `128` symlink pointing to a
filename of only 64 dots.

[Bug 1348431] [NEW] -O inline_data not supported by Ubuntu e2fsprogs

2014-07-24 Thread Claes Wallin
Public bug reported:

Since kernel version 3.8, ext4 supports the file system option
inline_data to put file content into the inode itself as an extended
attribute. However, this feature cannot be enabled using the included
e2fsprogs in Trusty Tahr. If it has been enabled for a file system, boot
e2fsck fails.

Support for this is currently being worked on upstream in
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/fs/ext2/e2fsprogs.git/log/?h=pu . Adding
this bug to track when this is merged into mainline and/or the ubuntu
e2fsprogs.

[Bug 1188011] [NEW] should conflict with quantal linux-image-extra-* packages

2013-06-06 Thread Claes Wallin
Public bug reported:

I have both precise and quantal in my sources.list.

Whenever I do an `apt-get install linux-image-generic/quantal` and there
is a ~precise version similar to the version linux-image-generic depends
on, apt-get always picks the precise version first, which contains all
the files of linux-image-*-generic/quantal plus the files of linux-
image-extra-*-generic. I always have to specify e.g. linux-
image-3.5.0-32-generic/quantal for apt-get to pick the correct package.
Pinning does not help, as any pinning that selects the quantal package
also selects the precise package.

I believe making linux-image-*-generic*~precise conflict with linux-
image-extra-* (each specific version in conflict with the respective
specific version) would remove this problem. It would also make sense,
because these packages do in fact conflict -- they contain an
overlapping set of files.

this is what i get and similar effects ending with nothing to repeat. There
was a workaround i tried but it seemed to be dated and didnt work. As soon as
apport and ubuntu-bug work ill return to proper bug reporting, (apport has
accually been broken for a long time, i just havnt gotten around to try and fix
it untill recently).

anyway i tried apport-collect 1101207 the above output was given on crash.

same problem, different python, tried commenting out 1296 and 1297 they
look the same in python3.

# avoid ':' in ELF paths, we use that as separator
stack.append(offset.replace(':', '..'))

since one is already commented im guessing these are not the correct
lines to comment out. Would appreciate a working workaround. thanks.

[Bug 612373] Re: silently ignore -c parameter if --checkDevicesBS0 if lower than 1M

2012-08-16 Thread Heinz-Josef Claes
corrected in version 3.3-rc1

The call of storeBackup above is wrong. You also have to specify
-u 'gzip -d'
or storeBackupRecover (and others) will try to uncompress files with bzip2
(default value) instead of gzip.

Starting with version 3.3 you also have to change usage of option
--checkDevicesCompr0 to
--checkDevicesCompr0 yes
or
--checkDevicesCompr0 check
due to functional enhancement.

[Bug 1026063] [NEW] Two finger scrolling in Netbeans triggers right click

2012-07-18 Thread Claes
Public bug reported:

Whenever I use the two fingers to scoll up or down in netbeans, it always
triggers a right click, opening the context sensitive menu, and interrupting
the actual scrolling.
Does not happen if I click and drag the relevant scroll handle instead of using
two finger scroll.

Does not happen in any other application, such as firefox, chromium or
libreoffice.

It could possible be java related, I may just not have any other java
based apps, but searching for java and various variations of right click
and scrolling didn't find me any bugs.

[Bug 608907] Re: [lucid][maverick][i915] Lenovo U160 Intel i7 620UM blank screen

2010-12-14 Thread Claes Wallin
I have a U160 with a 8086:0046 chip and Xorg reports the display as EDID
vendor AUO, prod id 12380.

Tried running 2.6.37-rc5, which as far as I understand is up-to-date
with intel-drm. Problem persists.

If I boot without nomodeset the machine boots with the screen lit, but
black. Also, it does not respond to keyboard input, so I am unable to
warm reboot it.

If I boot with nomodeset X works, but only in 1024x768. In this case,
if I do a user switch or quit X, the screen also hangs. Will try the
i915.modeset=0 parameter to see if I can at least get a working 1024x768
display that doesn't hang.

[Bug 580512] Re: proftpd 1.3.2c with SSL is useless in Ubuntu 10.04

2010-05-22 Thread Claes Löfqvist
Ooh yeah, Christopher's hint nailed it! Now I can keep my system updated
again without having to repeat the proftpd downgrade procedure
afterwards. Thanks!

I guess now we just have to wait for this issue to be fixed by some warm
hearted person. The 1.3.2e fix seems actually to have been released by
the proftpd team back in FEBRUARY so I don't think anyone could say that
it would be overly hasty to include it now?

A NOTE to all of us downgraders (put a yellow sticker up right now)...
WHEN THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN SOLVED:
DON'T FORGET TO DELETE THE DOWNGRADE PIN ( sudo rm
/etc/apt/preferences.d/proftpd ) !
otherwise the proftpd server will remain downgraded forever, which of course
can get this saga (yes, I'm swedish ;) to end up in security holes!

Best regards Claes Löfqvist.

[Bug 580512] Re: proftpd 1.3.2c with SSL is useless in Ubuntu 10.04

2010-05-15 Thread Claes Löfqvist
Ahh, there it is... I knew I had read it before, but couldn't find it when I
was to report this problem. Thanks Laryllan!
Lots of information there... possible solutions seems to be: upgrading proftpd,
upgrading openssl or even downgrading proftpd.

I have now temporarily sidestepped this problem by downgrading proftpd. The
following parameters was considered in this decision:
1. I don't want to build stuff and inject manually in my system (too much job
to maintain securely in the long run).
2. I couldn't find an upgraded Ubuntu package of openssl (this would otherwise
also solved the problem. See Laryllan's link)
3. Reverting to Ubuntu 9.10 seemed like... overreacting!
4. It's a plus if an apt-get upgrade can be used to correct the fix later
on.

If someone is interested in exactly how I downgraded... here comes
details:

---
STEP 1: I downloaded an older package of proftpd from the previous Ununtu
release:
  http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/proftpd-basic
  (in my case: proftpd-basic_1.3.2-3_i386.deb)

STEP 2: I then removed the proftpd installed in my system:
  sudo apt-get remove proftpd

STEP 3: Thereafter did I install the downloaded version:
  sudo dpkg --install proftpd-basic_1.3.2-3_i386.deb

STEP 4: Next I commented the TLSOption AllowClientRenegotiations line in the
tls.conf file:
  sudo vim /etc/proftpd/tls.conf

STEP 4b: The line now looking like this:
#TLSOptions AllowClientRenegotiations

STEP 5: Starting the downgraded ftp server:
  sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd start

FINAL STEP: I successfully connected to my downgraded ftp server with a
Filezilla Client.
---

Running apt-get upgrade now will of course upgrade and ruin what we
just accomplished. But I guess if I have to upgrade the system I just
have to redo the STEPS 1, 2, 3 and 5 from above and I'm back off track
again.

[Bug 580512] [NEW] proftpd 1.3.2c with SSL is useless in Ubuntu 10.04

2010-05-14 Thread Claes Löfqvist
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: proftpd-basic

Hi,

Due to a bug in proftpd v1.3.2c clients fail to connect to the server since the
server is abruptly disconnecting when a renegotiation is initiated by the
client. The disconnecting is however a freshly added security feature so that
part should be considered normal.
The problem occur when you try to disable this function (which has to be done
since (at least) the commonly used FileZilla Client is not able to handle this
yet). The TLSOptions AllowClientRenegotiations doesn't work and that, I read
somewhere, is due to something regarding to the openssl version presently used
in Ubuntu 10.04.

(I made an attempt to move my up and running FTP server from Ubuntu 9.10
to 10.04. This issue has however made me regroup to 9.10 again.)

I'm adding as much info as I can. I believe that this issue is fixed in
the later versions of proftpd. The version 1.3.2e released 24 Feb 2010
would probably be the wise choice!

Best regards Claes Löfqvist

[Bug 522091] Re: keyboard freezes with kernel 2.6.32-13

2010-05-05 Thread Bert Claes
@ktp
Yes, I've got the same behaviour.
I've got a PS/2 mouse and PS/2 keyboard standard connected to my desktop
computer. When the computer freezes at the login screen, a newly connected USB
keyboard did work, for just a few more letters of my password, but did freeze
too.
(a newly connected USB mouse worked too, after a PS/2 mouse-freeze)
I do not use this ppa, I just have a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.4

2010-05-04 Thread Bert Claes
@ktp
Thanks for the info. but since I downloaded the nvidea proprietary driver, I
don't even have time to log in the normal way. I just have 2 seconds before
the computer freezes (typing, moving the mouse or doing nothing). If I log in
to the console, and use the command I get the message xmodmap: unable to open
display ' ' .

I don't thing it has anything to do with X or with the keyboard.
If I use the recovery mode and then..
a) normal boot, login in console, no X: I get the problems after a minute
b) root console, no X: everythings ok (can start gdm, gnome, everything).

Yes, it still exist in the new release of Ubuntu (10.04), I've posted a

terminal and performing 'start gdm' gives a stable system too for me.

[Bug 364530] Re: keyboard and mouse freeze after login

2010-05-01 Thread Bert Claes
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 (32 bit) to a clean harddisk and have the same
problem.
I didn't have the problem with Ubuntu 9.10.

When I start linux, the login screen starts..
sometimes..
- if I wait a few minutes (without typing or moving the mouse) the computer
freezes
- if I type my password, it looks like a key is constantly being pressed, and
the computer freezes
- if I log in fast enough, and wait a while, gnome freezes with just the
desktop loaded or with a key constantly being pressed.
.. but always one of the three.

* I used a PS/2 keybmouse, and an USB keybmouse, and had the same problem.
* Without keyboard, I still have the same problem with the mouse.
* I disabled the wireless network drivers.
* chose in the installation for an encrypted, and later an unencrypted
homefolder, still had the same problem

But..
When I use, in GRUB, the recovery mode, and use the root shell, I don't have
any problems.
I can use the startx command to start gnome. Firefox works, Nautilus works.

[Bug 454234] Re: eel_preferences_get_boolean: assertion `preferences_is_initialized ()' failed

2010-02-16 Thread Bert Claes
I have the same error:

I downloaded the opera browser to test (I rather prefer an open source
browser) from the opera-website in Firefox.

I chose open with GDebi Package installer for the
opera_10.10.4742.gcc4.qt3_i386.deb file, and not save file..
after a while, the package installer said, file not found anymore or
something like that
After that I got the nautilus problems.

First I got the

`preferences_is_initialized ()' failed
error

After the Erez Volk's PPA (didn't work for me):

I have the same problem but with lyx 1.5.1, but it's ain't fixed with a
reconfigure.
The same file worked both in kubuntu 7.04 lyx-1.4.x and in the former 1.5.0 in
Gutsy.
I atached the latex-log:
