[Bug 1229172] [NEW] Thunderbird Spell check as you type stopped working after update to 1:24.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 (precise-updates)

2013-09-23 Thread computermacgyver
Public bug reported:

After installing the 1:24.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 (precise-updates)
update to Mozilla Thunderbird on 12.04, the Spell check as you type
feature no longer works. Downgrading to 11.0.1+build1-0ubuntu2
(precise) restores the functionality.

Steps to reproduce:
* Open a new message.
* Verify Options-Spell Check As You Type is selected
* Type something like check my spleling please in the body of the message

Expected Result:
* spleling should be underlined in red and when right-clicked offer correction
options

Actual Result:
* No words are underlined to indicate mispellings were found. Right-clicking on
spleling shows the standard context menu. Toggling the spell check as you
type option has no effect. Click the Spelling button, however, does lauch the
spell checker and identify the mispelled word.

Downgrading to 11.0.1+build1-0ubuntu2 (precise) restores the check as
you type functionality.

[Bug 994498] Re: Kile crashes when it is closing

2012-07-15 Thread computermacgyver
This is also happening on my machine, the segmentation fault prevents
kile from updating ~/.kde/share/config/kilerc ; so the project settings,
preferences, etc. are not remembered. I've worked around this by editing
the kilerc file manually, but it is a pain. I've tried removing kilerc
completely, but the problem persisted even when kilerc was not present /
newly rebuilt.

[Bug 858338] Re: gedit should 'find next' when I press enter in find

2012-01-27 Thread computermacgyver
Quick update from upstream to confirm that this is a change in behavior
from previous versions as the reporter states in that within previous
versions, Ctrl+F would open the Find (and Replace) dialog while now
Ctrl+F opens the quick search input area. The two behave differently
when the enter key is pressed. Previously, quick search was Ctrl+K. The
Find and Replace dialog is now by default, Ctrl+H.

So, the previous behavior can be restored by changing the keyboard shortcuts so
that Ctrl+F opens the Find and Replace dialog. Pressing enter multiple times
in this dialog cycles through matches in the document. To change the keyboard
shortcut, users may either:
(1) Download and install the plugin at
https://github.com/nacho/gedit-accel-editor
enable it via Edit-Preferences-Plugins-Edit Shortcuts
and then change (and view) shortcuts via the Tools-Edit Shortcuts menu.
(2) Enable the can-change-accels key in org.gnome.desktop.interface with
dconf-editor. Then with Search-Replace highlighted in the menu, press Ctrl+F
to make this the new shortcut.

gconftool-2 has no effect. The change must be done with dconf-editor (part of

Thanks, Dmitry, removing the desktop-base package indeed removed the
Debian splash screen for me. I'm now only running the gnome fall-back

package would affect those who want to run the full gnome-shell.

No, all must be improved; users who are running gnome 3 (fallback in my

exists in gnome 3 either. So, I think rather than being deleted these
should be amended as well.

[Bug 889065] Re: gnome sets debian splash screen for grub

2011-11-13 Thread computermacgyver
Also quite unnerving to the user. I can confirm that installing gnome
(and via the Ubuntu Software Center resulted in my computer showing the
Debian splash screen in grub. I have a more concise list of all the
packages installed when choosing gnome in my software center history,
but I cannot find any good way to export this list to include it here.
Instead, I am including my dpkg log from the installation to list all
the packages installed.

[Bug 737972] Re: drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung

2011-10-12 Thread computermacgyver
This problem just recently started happening on my system although I
haven't made any configuration changes aside from updating packages. I
think there might have been a fix released at one time, but it looks to
me that recent updates have reintroduced the problem. I have this issue
even running Classic Ubuntu (No Effects) (i.e. metacity with no
composting) which used to be very stable.

[Bug 778083] Re: Switching workspaces does not always redraw everything necessary

2011-10-04 Thread computermacgyver
This bug affects my installation of Natty as well when running in the
No-effects version session. It happens with many programs, not just
gnome-terminal.

Enabling composting in metacity or using compiz fixes the issue, but
adds visual candy that I dislike and seems to also cause occasional GPU
hangs (already filed in another bug report). So I do think this is a
metacity issue; however, I have the same behavior when using Openbox as
my window manager in gnome, which may or may not be related.

I find Autohide also solve the issue, it only occurs with one of the

FYI on how to change the hide mode of the unity launcher:
1) install Advanced Desktop Effects Settings (ccsm) from the Ubuntu Software

2) Open System Settings from the shutdown/logoff menu
3) Select CompizConfig Settings Manager
4) Click the Ubuntu Unity Pugin under Desktop
5) Change Hide launcher to Autohide or Never

[Bug 772817] Re: Unity doesn't hide when numlock is on

2011-05-29 Thread computermacgyver
I can reproduce this behaviour consistently. For me it is occurring with
any new program launch(gedit, Thunderbird, Firefox), and I am not
running any of the previously listed programs (Chrome, K4B, Evolution).
The unity launcher does not stick when simply selecting an already open
program. Closing a running program while numlock is active also causes
the launcher to show and stick.

Even more interesting is that if Nautilus is active and in focus,
pressing turning on num lock shows the unity launcher even without
putting my mouse anywhere near it. Toggling off numlock hides the unity
bar. This can be repeated any number of times.
