[Bug 1930477] [NEW] cups 2.3.1 does not enumerate printer instances that are set up with lpoptions

2021-06-01 Thread Darren Croft
Public bug reported:

We use printer instances (PRINTER/instance) that are defined in
/etc/cups/lpoptions

Printer instances don't work properly with Ubuntu 20.04 and cups 2.3.1.
We have used the same lpoptions file with earlier versions of cups.

With 2.3.1, the command:
lp PRINTER/instance FILENAME
works

But the printer instances are not visible as printers in the libreoffice
print dialog, or by using lpstat -e or lpstat -a.

There is a recent fix in the uplevel cups code for printer instances.

We did our own make and install of the uplevel master branch 2.3.5 and
printer instances are working now.

We hope that ubuntu 20.04 can soon include the 2.3.5 cups code.

[Bug 1926989] Re: lpoptions command won't create a new printer instance

2021-05-12 Thread Darren Croft
Correction to original post

sudo lpoptions -p Letters/test -o InputSlot=Tray5

is creating an lpoptions file, but the Letters/Test instance is not
showing up in libreOffice or other printer lists.

If I do a su - and then do the lpoptions command, no lpoptions file is
created.

If I use lpoptions as a non root user it creats the ~/.cups/lpoptions
file, but still the printer instance in the file is not showing up
anywhere to be printed too

In summary, the real problem is not with the lpoptions command, but with
the lpoption files being ignored.

[Bug 1926989] [NEW] lpoptions command won't create a new printer instance

2021-05-03 Thread Darren Croft
Public bug reported:

Running the following command :
sudo lpoptions -p Letters/test -o InputSlot=Tray5

returns without error

sudo lpoptions -p Letters/test -l
Shows that the the above command had no effect InputSlot=Auto

After running the commands, there is no file /etc/cups/lpoptions

Even if an lpoptions file is created manually, it has no effect.

[Bug 1898182] [NEW] GooBook version 3.5 backporting required (SRU request)

2020-10-02 Thread Darren Davison
Public bug reported:

Goobook (https://gitlab.com/goobook/goobook) is a package that makes contact
data from a google account available on the command line. It has no other
purpose or features and is typically used in MUAs such as Mutt.

[Impact]

 * The current version of goobook (3.4.1) in focal and groovy no longer works
and has
not worked for several weeks. This is because the method it uses to
authenticate to
Google has been deprecated by them in favour of an alternative OAuth
approach. See
   https://gitlab.com/goobook/goobook/-/issues/87

 * Justification for backporting the fix to the stable release is that all
versions
of goobook prior to 3.5 are now completely unusable.

[Test Case]

 * apt install goobook && goobook authenticate

[Regression Potential]

 * This package is currently not working at all due to the actions of a third
party
(Google). This change will make it work again in the way that it is designed
to.

[Other Info]

 * Goobook is a trivial package that exists to serve a single purpose. It is
presently
completely unusable and will remain so until an upstream version of 3.5 or
higher is
packaged and included in the repositories.

 * The source tarball can be obtained upstream at:
   https://gitlab.com/goobook/goobook/-/archive/3.5/goobook-3.5.tar.gz

Thank you.

Otherwise, machine locks up, I check dmesg and has the microcode errors for
iwlwifi.

Further, firmware also crashes with version 43 as well. Is this the same
bug, should I open a separate ticket?

Also affected by this bug. Due to running at a 4k resolution, the cursor
becomes difficult when moving across snap applications (size decrease).

[Bug 1804435] [NEW] Figures containing bitmaps and vector become multiple pages

2018-11-21 Thread Darren Peets
Public bug reported:

When I export a figure to EPS or PDF in xfig, and the figure contains a
bitmap image as well as vector objects, the bitmap images are exported
onto their own separate pages. Ordinarily, they would be on the same
page (and EPS doesn't support pages). Since I mainly use xfig for
combining objects, this defeats its primary purpose.

Rolling back fig2dev to 1:3.2.6a-6 (Ubuntu 18.04) fixes this problem.

OS: Kubuntu 18.10
fig2dev version 1:3.2.7a-2

[Bug 1798384] Re: Grub allows to load unsigned kernel even BIOS enabled secure boot

2018-10-18 Thread Darren Wu
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic uec-images

** Description changed:

The grub 2.02 in bionic still has the insecure commands which "linux"
and "initrd", it allows to load unsigned kernel and initrd.

Even BIOS has forced the secure boot, when grub boot menu shows and stay
few seconds and it allows to enter to grub command-line by press 'c'. In
the grub command-line, that's easy to load unsigned kernel by 'linux'
  and 'initrd' commands.

Suggest to remove the 'linux' and 'initrd' from grub commands list.

[Bug 1798384] ProcEnviron.txt

2018-10-18 Thread Darren Wu
apport information

** Attachment added: "ProcEnviron.txt"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1798384/+attachment/5202420/+files/ProcEnviron.txt

- ---
+
+ ---
+ Reproduce steps:
+ 1. Install an unsigned kernel
+ 2. Enable secure boot from BIOS
+ 3. Reboot system an boot normally to make sure unsigned kernel boot fails
(grub.cfg loads kerenl by "linuxefi" and "initrdefi")
+ error: /boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-1014 has invalied signature
+ error: you need to load the kernel first.
+
+ Press any key to continue...
+ 4. After few seconds, system will back to grub menu. Now press 'c' to enter
grub command line mode
+ 5. Enter the following grub commands to load unsigned kernel and initrd and
boot into unsigned kernel
+ grub> linux (hd0,gpt3)/boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-1014
+ grub> initrd (hd0,gpt3)/boot/initrd.img-4.15.0-1014
+ grub> boot
+
+ Expect result:
+ Block the unsigned kernel to boot
+
+ Actual result:
+ Boot unsigned kernel successfully

I'm not positive when it happened. Or if I can easily reproduce. I'll see
about running the latest mainline kernel and see if it fixes things.

[Bug 1728652] Re: Qt app crashes when adding a QMainWindow derived widget to a QMdiArea

2017-11-15 Thread Darren Edale
I've researched the issue a bit more, based on the fact that the stack
trace shows calls to KDEPlasmaPlatformTheme.so from within QMenuBar. So
the issue is repeatable in the following circumstances:

- running on KDE Plasma
- having one (or more) Global Menu widgets in a panel or on the desktop
- having the setting "Application Style/Fine Tuning/Menubar Style" set to
"Application Menu widget" in the KDE System Settings application.
- The QMainWindow being added to the MDI area has a menu bar.

It does *not* occur when the Plasma Global Menu widget is not in use
(i.e. the setting "Application Style/Fine Tuning/Menubar Style" is set
to something else.

My conclusion, therefore, is that I need to report this as an issue for
KDE Plasma, so I'm closing this issue.

[Bug 1728652] [NEW] Qt app crashes when adding a QMainWindow derived widget to a QMdiArea

2017-10-30 Thread Darren Hatherley
Public bug reported:

In the course of developing an application I have discovered that adding
a widget to an MDI area causes a segfault in QWindow::winId() when the
widget added is derived from QMainWindow and is created using a compiled
.ui file from QtDesigner. Creating a visually-identical UI but hand-
coding the widget layout in C++ works as expected.

I have found this bug is reliable with Qt5.9.1 installed from the stock
Kubuntu repositories. It occurs consistently on two different machines
with this setup. The bug does not occur with Qt5.9.2 (installed directly
from the Qt maintenance tool), and I've had it confirmed that it does
*not* occur on Qt 5.9.2 64bit MSVC2013 Windows.

I have attached a sample stack trace. I have also created a very small
example project on github that consistently produces the segfault on the
setup I mentioned above. The github repo is here:

https://github.com/darrenedale/mdi-window-crash

I *think* the issue is in the libqt5widgets5 package but I can't be
certain. I guess it's possible that it's an issue in the Breeze KDE
theme or upstream in Qt?

[Bug 579559] Re: Keyboard does not work in GRUB v2 on reboot

2017-09-06 Thread Darren Conway
Hello
I have this same problem with a twist.

I have a dual boot Win 10 / Ubuntu system running on a Gigabyte MoBo.
It all worked perfectly until I installed a media card reader. This
includes a USB3.0 interface that plugs directly into the MoBo USB3.0
port. When I try and boot, the usb keyboard does not respond in GRUB2.
I can't choose an OS. It defaults to Ubuntu. Once in Ubuntu the mouse
and keyboard work perfectly.

My work around is to unplug the media card reader from the USB3.0 port
which negates the purpose of having it.

[Bug 1551532] Re: java crashed with SIGABRT in JNU_GetEnv()

2017-07-14 Thread Darren Conway
I got this fatal error trying to run Netbeans. Haven't tried running other
Java programs yet
Installed using the command:
sudo apt-get -o Dpkg::Options::="--force-overwrite" install openjdk-9-jdk
Got the crash everytime I ran Netbeans.

Tried running:
apt-get update
apt-get install openjdk-9-jdk
apt-get autoremove

Netbeans flashed the startup image for a fraction of a second, then
nothing. No crash, no Netbeans.

I have hit this bug as well. I get an error message if any value (a valid

It looks like this bug has been around for at least 8 years (I am writing this

The cause has been identified.
It would be nice if it was fixed.

[Bug 1658027] Re: pkgcache.bin. files fill up drive

Hello

In the /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/10periodic file I set:
APT::Periodic::Enable "0"
to disable update/upgrade script.

This stopped the generation of cache files.
Still nothing is recorded in the apt log files.

[Bug 1658027] Re: pkgcache.bin. files fill up drive

2017-01-22 Thread Darren Conway
Hi
Thanks for you prompt response. Given the age of the version I am running, I
have low expectations around corrective action. I did read up bug reports
where this issue was fixed prior to the release I have.

On a slightly wider issue, I have attempted to conduct troubleshooting
on this problem. My "findings" include:

 - no known Linux application that will identify what process/program
has created any given file.

 - I don't know of any marker that apt and related utilities might
include in a file to identify the source utility.

 - I have looked at the /etc/apt/apt.conf/10Periodic file and turned on
verbose "3" mode. No email was created when the cache file was created
a 6:25am.

 - The MaxSize is set to "500" which is well under the capacity of the
HD. Whichever program creates the cache files is ignoring the directory
size limit.

 - The problem appears to have developed spontaneously without user
intervention.

 - If there is a problem with a broken file, I don't know how to find it
or fix it. Running "clean" gets rid of the cache files but doesn't stop
them being created.

In short, troubleshooting apt problems seems to be more difficult that
it should be. Perhaps this may be an area worth working on in future
releases.

In the mean time, I will just set up a daily cron "clean" job to clear
the cache. I don't expect any action or further discussion.

Cheers

Dazz

[Bug 1658027] [NEW] pkgcache.bin. files fill up drive

2017-01-20 Thread Darren Conway
Public bug reported:

Hello
This seems to be similar to bug 1050779.

This occurred on Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS. apt-get version 0.8.16 compiled 8
Oct 2014.

I have a headless remote webcam server connected via the mobile
telephone network. A new file pkgcache.bin.xxxyyy (where xxxyyy are
random letters/numbers) is generated each day with the same time stamp
(0625 am) and gets added to the /var/cache/apt/ dir. This continues
until the entire root partition is full and the server locks up.

I understand that this should only happen if apt-get update is run but I
don't do that. No one has access to run that command. I do not install
any updates on the server once deployed. At present, the server has no
connection to the internet, so these files are generated by the software
on the server.

I receive a daily report emailed from the server. apt-get is not listed
as a running process when the report is run at 0730.

What is worse is that this problem seems to have started itself. This
server has been running since 2014 without issue. It has started to fill
up the cache directory in the last 6 months for no obvious reasons.
This has caused the server to lock up twice.

I am clearing the files with a daily a crontab job to run apt-get clean.

I checked the "apt" logs. There are no new entries from when initial
installation was done.

I have asked for help here :
http://askubuntu.com/questions/873241/var-cache-apt-dir-filling-with-daily-pkgcache-bin-xxxyyy-files/873687#873687
without a response.

[Bug 1638163] Re: Xfig fails to generate EPS preview

2016-10-31 Thread Darren Peets
I should note a couple things:

For an existing file with rather complex EPS files from Mathematica:
black rectangle, bounding box is read just fine.

For a circle drawn in xfig, imported in EPS or PDF: empty rectangle,
bounding box doesn't work (present in EPS header)

Importing a second copy of an EPS file that's already present and works
(first case): bounding box fails on the newly added EPS only.

[Bug 1638163] [NEW] Xfig fails to generate EPS preview

2016-10-31 Thread Darren Peets
Public bug reported:

Ordinarily, an EPS object would appear in xfig via a preview. After
upgrading to Kubuntu 16.10, EPS objects appear as black or empty
rectangles with the error message: "EPS object read OK, but no preview
bitmap found/generated"

It is possible to view the EPS files with GV. The same problem exists
for PDF objects, and including a colour TIFF preview on export leads to
"unknown image format" on import. I have not checked whether similar
problems exist when importing other file types.

When trying to put together a minimal example (make a very simple EPS in
xfig, import it), I found that "Shrink to orig" put one coordinate at
-4772184.8844, so there may also be an issue interpreting bounding boxes
in some cases. I haven't included an example as I realized it's trivial
to do (draw a circle, export to EPS/PDF, start a new file, import
EPS/PDF), but let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

2016-10-30 Thread Darren Garvey
I can reproduce this and several other similar kernel oopses with my
WiFi card (BCM4360 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter) reasonably easily.
I'd like to help diagnose it, or fix it, if I can.

I'll try the upstream kernel in a week or two but I'm running an
experiment on the machine right now. Is there any info I can add here or
should I create a new bug?

I am on Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS with `uname -a` giving:

Linux 4.4.0-38-generic #57-Ubuntu SMP Tue Sep 6 15:42:33 UTC

[Bug 1576500] Re: Plasma fails to load: "all shell packages missing"

2016-05-06 Thread Darren Peets
For anyone curious:

Non-functional black-screen-with-pointer X:
$ echo $XDG_DATA_DIRS
:/var/lib/snapd/desktop

Workaround second X with plasma:
$ echo $XDG_DATA_DIRS
/usr/share//usr/share/xsessions/plasma:/usr/local/share/:/usr/share/:/var/lib/snapd/desktop

After fully removing snapd:
$ echo $XDG_DATA_DIRS
/usr/share:/usr/share:/usr/local/share

[Bug 1576500] Re: Plasma fails to load: "all shell packages missing"

2016-05-06 Thread Darren Peets
I guess because I usually figure that something installed by default
that I haven't heard of is useful or important? Removing it entirely,
everything loaded and I didn't have to use my ridiculous workaround.
Success! Thanks!

Now:
$ echo $XDG_DATA_DIRS
/usr/share:/usr/share:/usr/local/share

Before removing snapd, it had the snapd directory in it, other entries
in the middle as I recall, and the first two entries were not separated
by a colon.

[Bug 1576500] Re: Plasma fails to load: "all shell packages missing"

2016-05-05 Thread Darren Peets
Doesn't quite fix it for me.

Purging and reinstalling snapd had no effect.

~/.local/share/plasma already had one thing in it, so I created a
variety of new links into /usr/share/plasma/*. That gave me a KDE
splash screen, the popup about plasmashell being missing went away, and
the crash report dialog was for baloo-file instead of krunner. Still no
taskbar, widgets, wallpaper, etc.

Creating a link for /var/lib/snapd/desktop/plasma or making the link and
purging and reinstalling snapd again (the link survived the purge) had
no effect. So I still get to go through the same workaround
thunderbird>chromium>konsole>teamviewer>plasmashell.

After doing all this, the second instance of KDE lost its taskbar. Had
to create it again from the right-click menu on the desktop. The new
one looks different, so perhaps it was previously loading the 15.10
version somehow.

Also, when the second instance of X starts, the first thing that appears
is the login screen, which looks like the Kubuntu 15.10 version. When I
lock the screen, I get the 16.04 screen locker. The former displays the
time in a localized format based on the physical location of the
computer (China), the latter displays the time using the system
language/localization (Canadian English).

So I'm wondering if something moved around between the two versions, but
without updating an important config file somewhere.

[Bug 1576500] Re: Plasma fails to load: "all shell packages missing"

2016-05-04 Thread Darren Peets
Further to my comment #3:

X ran in parallel with the instance of KDE/Plasma that was started
accidentally via kdesudo and/or teamviewer daemon for an hour or two
(confusing some software), then X died in the background. Plasma is
still running, days later.

"Everything works" was a bit of an approximation. Plasmashell is
consuming 105-125% of a processor, 10.3G of virtual RAM, and 0.55G of
physical RAM, while Xorg eats ~30-40% of a processor, 500M virtual, 140M
RAM. In some cases, selecting a window on the taskbar doesn't work (it
sometimes thinks I'm dragging the button I click on), and I've had some
issues with copy/paste. I was sufficiently relieved to have plasma
again that it took a few days before its dragging bothered me enough to
check this.

Let me know if there's any information you'd like from a plasma-fails-
to-load system with "functioning" X and/or Plasma accessible only via
bizarre workarounds. But I may not have access to the computer next
week...

2016-04-29 Thread Darren Peets
OK, this is truly bizarre:

Starting the teamviewer daemon from Konsole on :0 (ctrl-alt-F1) asks for
password authentication in a usual popup window. Entering the password
to allow the teamviewer daemon to run also starts a fully functional X
with KDE/plasma on :1 (ctrl-alt-F7, where it would normally be), in
parallel. Widgets, window decoration, desktop wallpaper, screen locker,
splash screen: everything works.

[Bug 1576500] [NEW] Plasma fails to load: "all shell packages missing"

2016-04-28 Thread Darren Peets
Public bug reported:

Upgraded to Xenial, and Plasma disappeared. Starting the X server, I get a
blank screen, then error messages indicating that there is no Plasma shell. In
particular,
"All shell packages missing.
This is an installation issue, please contact your distribution"

Expected: window manager, task bar, icons, wallpaper, widgets etc. load with X
Actual: Not so much.
Repeatable: every time.
plasma-desktop version: 4:5.5.5-0ubuntu1
Architecture: amd64

This happened on only one of my three systems. I've attached a
screenshot of the full screen including the three error windows. It
asks for a bug report on krunner.

Application switching works (upper left corner and Alt-Tab). Screen resolution
and colours seem fine. Icons are often absent (e.g. absent in Emacs but
present in Chromium), and passing the mouse over an absent button dumps this to
the originating terminal window:
(emacs:2916): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT
(object)' failed

Starting plasmashell from Konsole:
$ plasmashell
Icon theme "breeze" not found.
Icon theme "oxygen" not found.
Error: standard icon theme "oxygen" not found!
Failed to load the OSD QML file file from ""

This also brings up the "all shell packages missing" window. Closing that
returns
We have no shell handlers installed
on the Konsole.

The screen locker doesn't work, so instead it tells me to go to a
virtual terminal and unlock it from there. That works.

Konsole has lost use of the arrow keys, which makes things like Nano
very difficult to use. I don't know whether that's related.

I tried apt-get --reinstall install for all installed plasma packages.

Quirks of current installation:
I boot into text mode, then start the X server with startx, and before the
upgrade I was using fglrx drivers from
http://ppa.launchpad.net/costamagnagianfranco/locutusofborg-ppa/ubuntu (both
changes were done to allow Boinc to access the ATI GPU). The driver has
evidently not yet been released for 16.04, but X falls back to an ATI driver
that seems to work perfectly well.

How I got access to Konsole:
Thunderbird starts with X.
An e-mail containing a link can be used to open chromium, my default browser.
Chromium's Downloads tab allows me to open the containing folder. Dolphin runs
fine from Konsole (but without icons), but chromium doesn't like dolphin today,
so it asks for an alternative program for opening the folder. I tell it
"konsole", I get that, and I can use my system again. Sort of. With no
KDE/Plasma widgets/taskbar etc., no icons in many programs, and reduced
functionality in the terminal, the GUI is extremely clunky and annoying to use.

[Bug 1512002] Re: Annoying dialog "Authentication is required to change your own user data"

2016-01-25 Thread Darren Davison
I'm pretty sure the message notification panel is to blame. I ran with
it disabled for several days a few weeks ago and I wasn't plagued by
this dialog on a single occasion. Unfortunately, though I can do
without the notifications, I can't do without the volume control and for
some bizarre reason they are one and the same :/

If a few people could confirm that they see this behaviour disappear
when they unload the notification panel, at least someone could start
taking a look at the code/config that might be the cause of this
annoyance.

Ubuntu 14.04, and Nexus 5X. This might not be the exact bug that I am
experiencing. My phone continuously remounts and opens the file manager
to the phone storage.

[Bug 1160847] Re: gvfs should not attempt to mount MTP devices in an endless loop (cluttering your desktop with messages)

2015-12-10 Thread Darren
The same issue happens with other cables when mounting phones(have tried
3 different phones so far), but a webcam doesn't seem to have any
issues. I looked at the syslog, and saw this pattern repeated over and
over.

[Bug 1512002] Re: Annoying dialog "Authentication is required to change your own user data"

2015-12-07 Thread Darren Davison
I think the advice to disable the polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 to
fix this is akin to advising someone to take the batteries out of their
smoke alarms to stop the annoying noise.

One of the other links in there has a more plausible angle though, which
is that it is to do with the message notification panel. I'm running
with this disabled/removed to see if it is the likely culprit.

[Bug 1523097] [NEW] Avogadro Conformer Search

2015-12-05 Thread Darren Rhodes
Public bug reported:

I wrote the following note to the Avogadro support list,

"The molecular mechanics section as seen here,
http://avogadro.cc/wiki/Extensions_Menu#Molecular_Mechanics and hence
conformer search isn't available. No screenshot is available since the
drop down extension menu disappears when I press print screen.

I am running v1.1.1 on, Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS I downloaded the software
from the ubuntu software centre. My version installed at work is on a
windows pc - this has the facility."

They replied with the following,

"Unfortunately, this sounds like an Ubuntu packaging issue. There’s an
extension for molecular mechanics, and if not present, those features
won’t show up in the menu.

I’d suggest filing a bug with the package maintainers.

Sorry I can’t be of more help - if you’re willing to compile, I’m
confident the menu will re-appear."

Can you sort out the packaging issue, please?

So that's 473 times the dialog appeared yesterday with no indication as
to why. It's also affecting multiple users on my main 15.10 machine now

Still appears to be related to switching user sessions.

Is anyone looking into this? Any further info/logs I can provide to

I notice one of the comments on the forum issue (linked in comment #3)
mentions that the symptoms are apparent after switching users and
switching back. This is also the same for me on the desktop box where 2
people are almost permanently logged in with one or both having a locked
session. Only seems to affect one user however. May be relevant.

[Bug 1512002] Re: Annoying dialog "Authentication is required to change your own user data"

2015-11-05 Thread Darren Davison
I recently installed 2 machines with Xubuntu 15.10 and I see this issue
very often, but not *always* on one of them (a desktop PC) and never on
the other (a laptop).

On the desktop machine, I simply hover over the dialog and hold my ESC
key down until it eventually goes away. Like another responder said, it
seems to be time dependent and stores the events while the machine is
locked. Typically takes a few seconds (so probably 30-40 cancellations
of the dialog) but the most recent one took over a minute (I'd estimate
the dialog re-appeared a couple of hundred times at least) although the
machine wasn't locked for significantly longer than before.

Once it disappears for the last time, it seems to stay away until the
next time the machine is locked/unlocked.

It's parent process is the xfce-session (in my case) so it's not obvious
what is actually triggering it to appear. Entering the password
seemingly makes no difference to the persistent nature of the dialog.

[Bug 1477987] Re: Thunderbird 1:31.8.0+build1-0ubuntu0.15.04.1 never asks for account password

2015-07-28 Thread Darren Peets
To summarize what happened on the Mozilla side, my problem at least is a
consequence of a fix for LogJam. Thunderbird can't connect because the
DH key is no longer considered secure, so it silently fails. No fix is
coming. The best solution is to get your sysadmins to update the key.
The workaround is to go into Thunderbird's config editor and change the
following to False:

security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128_sha
security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256_sha
security.ssl3.dhe_dss_aes_128_sha
security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_des_ede3_sha

In some cases, some of these may need to be created first. Note: I
would assume that tampering with your security settings to allow less-
secure connections may not be a great long-term strategy.

The workaround above works for me. If it doesn't work for you, you may
have a separate problem. In that case, I'd suggest checking that the
problem exists in Thunderbird as downloaded from Mozilla, then
submitting a new bug to Mozilla, saying that changing these four things
didn't work. They'll probably want to know your mail server's URI,
protocol, port, and connection security.

[Bug 1477987] [NEW] Thunderbird 1:31.8.0+build1-0ubuntu0.15.04.1 never asks for account password

2015-07-24 Thread Darren Peets
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 1:31.8.0+build1-0ubuntu0.15.04.1, Thunderbird no
longer asks for an account password, and accordingly cannot access that
mail account. Shows [user]@[server]: Connected to [mail server]... as
status. This status is maintained indefinitely (or at least beyond the
limits of my patience/distraction).

Downgrading to 1:31.6.0+build1-0ubuntu1 fixes the problem, and upgrading
again to 1:31.8.0+build1-0ubuntu0.15.04.1 brings the problem back.

Running from a terminal, there is one message:
(process:3721): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size
== 0' failed
However, this message appears for the downgraded version as well.

Running Thunderbird in safe mode does not fix the problem.

Expected behaviour:
After launch, Thunderbird asks for password

Actual behaviour:
After launch, Thunderbird never actually asks for a password

In addition, there is a Gmail account set up, set to connect using a
stored app password, and Thunderbird successfully fetches mail for this
account. The problem is only encountered for the account which requires
me to enter a password.

Upstream build: Problem exists there too, so have submitted

[Bug 1473884] [NEW] Black screen with mouse pointer if minidisplayport monitor is plugged in before woken up on an (older) XPS13

2015-07-13 Thread Darren Hoyland
Public bug reported:

On a now older XPS 13 (only about a year old though), when waking from
suspend/hibernate (whatever it does when laptop lid is closed) - if plug
display port in before woken up, then screen goes black, although you
can still see the mouse pointer.

Can still get to use Ctrl-Alt-F1, etc to switch to a VT with console,
but still black when switch back to Ctrl-Alt-F7.

** Affects: xf86-video-omap (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1268257] Re: nvidia-331-updates 331.38-0ubuntu3: nvidia-331-updates kernel module failed to build, with only error: objdump: '... .tmp_nv.o': No such file

2015-06-15 Thread Darren Roberts
I just installed Mint on mine my wife's laptops.

There seems to have been some issue with ubuntu nvidia cards for over
a year, I just couldn't be arsed anymore.

Although Mint seems to be based on ubuntu from what I can make out (I
grabbed 17.1 I think), no problems so far, and very happy with it.

Not sure what's happening, as Mint seems to be using the same
proprietary hardware drivers as ubuntu (304... and 331...) - I'm not
really linux savvy though, and might have missed something.

Ubuntu 14.04 just threw a fit after a software update.

nvidia issue of some sort.

I've given up reporting it with Apport now - every time it just says
something about the bug already being know about.

That's been useful for the last year.

[Bug 965836] Re: `ssh-add -x` does not prevent key use

2015-05-12 Thread Darren Tucker
Are you using gnome-keyring? (I think that's the default).

If so, gnome-keyring doesn't actually implement ssh-agent locking
although it will claim to work.

iwlwifi: mvm: fix BT coex shared antenna activity check

The shared antenna should be forbidden to use only if there's
high BT activity. Comparing to BT_OFF was effectively causing
us to always forbid using the shared antenna for SISO. This
leads to degraded performance in scenarios where the shared
antenna would have better performance.

[Bug 1436891] Re: 8086:08b3 Cannot connect to any 802.11n WiFi access points

2015-04-29 Thread Darren Peets
I upgraded my other laptop (6.5 years older, i386 rather than amd64) to
15.04, and I get the same issue there. Upstream kernel v4.1-rc1-vivid
works, 3.19.0-15 has the bug. Let me know if you'd like another bug
report on the older hardware, or if there's anything else I should do.

Bug no longer exists in the mainline kernel. Apparently I was too slow,
and it was fixed sometime in the past month.
