[Bug 223238] Re: Extremely slow Ajax/Javascript/CSS performance in Firefox 3 using non-free nvidia-glx-new

2011-03-23 Thread dfszb
On the same computer (running Xubuntu 10.10 ), open this page in both Google
Chromium and Firefox 4.0.
Then hit 'end', then hit 'home'. In Chromium, the movement is very fast,
firefox needs ~0.5 second to go to the end.
So it is the same computer, it is the same (nvidia proprietary) driver, it is
the same (2.6.38) kernel. It is clearly a firefox issue.

just a small note, firefox 4.0 seems to be much better than previous

[Bug 405705] [NEW] empathy is not able to save chatlogs in simple text format

2009-07-28 Thread dfszb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Pidgin has a nice feature: all IM / chats can be saved as TEXT, (not html or
xml), so we can grep in the logs for some regexps etc.
Epiphany seems to have no such option. Messages are stored in XML. Of course
this gives the option to format the xml afterwards, however, plain text should
be an option, too, specially as we already have this in pidgin.

[Bug 316252] Re: Unable to retrieve MSN Address Book

2009-01-11 Thread dfszb
this is probably not a server side outage.
I can connect with amsn.
I can also do the following: install msn-pecan, and add the same account as
'wlm' account.
It also connects.
So this is a pidgin bug.

[Bug 277701] [NEW] cups-pdf: printing to PDF does not work

2008-10-03 Thread dfszb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups-pdf

using: ubuntu 8.04
cups-pdf version: 2.4.6-4ubuntu2 0
Printing to PDF from various applications (firefox, adobe acrobat)
Expected: pdf file to appear in ${HOME}/PDF
Happened: no pdf file.

Other notes: seems that cups-pdf was run under user 'nobody' - a user who had
no rights to write under ${HOME}
(so cups-pdf could not create subdirectory PDF, that was not created).
This was reported in /var/log/messages

OK, so I changed the output to be in /var/spool/cups-pdf/${USER}, by editing
the corresponding config file in /etc/cups/, but this did not work, either -
'nobody' had no write access to /var/spool/cups-pdf. So I changed the
/var/spool/cups-pdf directory's rights to 777, and after this print-to-pdf
worked.
Notes:
- it was strange for me to see that ${HOME} has 755 as access rights - and the
files and directories in it had the same access rights - ok, this does not
belong to this bug, but it looks like not very secure!
- is it possible to run the cups-pdf process under my user, not as user
'nobody'? Running like 'nobody' would make the resulting file readable by
anybody (I need to be able to read the output generated by 'nobody', and so
will need anybody who is allowed to print into PDF).

[Bug 177895] Re: Kernel 2.6.24-2 causing ~1000 wakeups by Rescheduling Interrupts

2008-04-04 Thread dfszb
Why is this bug marked as 'medium' importance? It looks like everybody with a
notebook with more than 1 core is affected. I guess this has to be marked
critical...
Can you (the owner of the bug) please change this?
Or is there a reason to leave it with lower importance?

2008-04-04 Thread dfszb
Oh, I understand, so it is not 'critical', if you are considering ubuntu
as a server OS. However, if it is to be used on notebooks, then burning
battery when it's not needed, actually reducing battery's life to 1/2 or
2/3 should be considered a very serious issue.
