[Bug 1327670] Re: WiFi connects to AP, but doesn't work. Setting rate to auto fixes it.

2014-10-07 Thread didi_X8
It would already help/ fix it for me if somebody could tell me where to put the
mentioned iwconfig command in order to have it fix the issue automatically on
every reboot.
I tried in /etc/rc.local and as a script in /etc/network/if-up.d/, but both
don't have effect. I guess the timing is the problem.

[Bug 1327670] Re: WiFi connects to AP, but doesn't work. Setting rate to auto fixes it.

2014-06-19 Thread didi_X8
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Fresh 14.04 install on a Packard Bell Notebook.

  WiFi device:
02:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8192SE
Wireless LAN Controller (rev 10)

  rtl8192se kernel module

If connecting to my home WiFi, it shows as connected, but there is no
connectivity. I can't ping anything, not even the access point itself,
althought DHCP settings are retrieved correctly.
iwconfig reports a rate stuck at 1Mb/s, although link quality is 70/70 and
Signal level -28dBm.
If I set the rate to auto with iwconfig wlan0 rate auto, it switches to 54
Mb/s (max the AP supports) and everything seems to work fine (I used it for few
hours now, downloaded few 100 MB, mostly Ubuntu packages).

When connecting to an Android Hotspot, the problem doesn't occur, thus it
seems to be AP dependent.
Difference in dmesg between connecting to the bad and the good AP:
When connecting to the bad one, it additionally shows this 2 lines:
  [10961.059621] rtl8192se :02:00.0 wlan0: disabling HT as WMM/QoS is not
supported by the AP
  [10961.059626] rtl8192se :02:00.0 wlan0: disabling VHT as WMM/QoS is not
supported by the AP
  Don't know if that's related.

I've been connected to this AP with a lot of devices (mainly mobile)
  without any issues.

The AP is a Linksys WRT54GL with Tomato 1.28 firmware.

[Bug 1068921] Re: Mailbox grows endlessly, heavy traffic

2012-10-22 Thread didi_X8
I think it's the same bug as described here:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=803326
CPU usage went up for me too.

The only workaround I found up to now is to turn off offline synchronization.

[Bug 1068921] [NEW] Mailbox grows endlessly, heavy traffic

2012-10-19 Thread didi_X8
Public bug reported:

Yesterday I noticed that my Internet connection keeps transferring a lot of
data. After a while I checked with nethogs and discovered this was caused by
Thunderbird.
Today I got a warning that my HDD was near full.
In this 2 days, the mailbox had grown to 20 GB, while in reality it should be
around 1 GB (a fresh zipped backup has 600 MB).

I removed the .thunderbird folder and configured my IMAP mailbox from scratch.
The same happened again.
I think this is not related to a somehow special configuration of my PC bcs my
colleague discovered it's the same on his machine. Without checking, he
wouldn't have noticed yet bcs of a much bigger HDD...

We couldn't yet find out what exactly happens / which data is transferred again
and again.
I suspect it's related to the last thunderbird update.

Ubuntu 12.04
Tunderbird 16.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1

[Bug 1026777] Re: Xorg segfault: kicks out to login screen

2012-08-03 Thread didi_X8
Having the same problem on a Thinkpad T410s, also Intel graphics (Core i5).
I just tried to create a core dump, following the instructions of Lasse.
However when trying to reproduce the crash, I had a total lockup, with hard
reset needed. No /etc/X11/core was generated.

[Bug 1026777] Re: Xorg segfault: kicks out to login screen

2012-08-03 Thread didi_X8
Update:
I found a file _usr_bin_Xorg.0.crash in /var/crash which contains a lot of
useful information, including a core dump (so I think).
Trying to get that info reported, I used apport to report an additional bug:
1032612
However the most valuable information (stack trace) seems to be missing. So I
found out about the tool apport-unpack.
Now I have a file containing a stack trace. Here it is:

[Bug 1032612] Re: Xorg crash in BasicComputeAcceleration

2012-08-03 Thread didi_X8
** Description changed:

- Xorg crashes after several sleep/wakeup cycles.
- This is duplicate of #1026777, I created it in order to have all info
uploaded by apport.
+ Since about 2 weeks, my Xorg randomly crashes (jumping back to login screen).
Happens mainly during wakeup, but not only. I was running 12.04 for several
weeks without this issue before.
+ Initially I thought this is the same as #1026777, but the segfault seems to
occur in a different function.

[Bug 1030491] Re: Xorg segfault

2012-07-30 Thread didi_X8
It happened again.
This time I was running the stock kernel 3.2.0-27-generic in order to make sure
it's not related to using a different kernel.
It happened after working about 1 hour. In the moment of the crash, I was
moving the mouse on the touchpad.

[Bug 956918] Re: Single IP unreachable after suspend

2012-06-23 Thread didi_X8
I couldn't reproduce it anymore with kernel 3.3.0.
Now I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 and switched back to the default kernel, also no
problems yet. Seems to be solved.

[Bug 956918] [NEW] Single IP unreachable after suspend

2012-03-16 Thread didi_X8
Public bug reported:

The following issue occured several times over the last month with Ubuntu 11.10
x86_64, kernel 3.0.0-16-generic.
It happened from the beginning (3.0.0-15). I didn't have this Computer before,
so I don't know if the issue is specific to this Ubuntu / kernel version.

Sometimes, after waking up from suspend, single remote hosts are not reachable.
It may be the first host the system tries to connect to (or may be the last one
connected to before susped), but I'm not sure about that.
not reachable means there's no route. It's not a DNS issue because trying to
ping the IP itself also fails. Example ping output:

$ ping 80.237.133.28
PING 80.237.133.28 (80.237.133.28) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 78.104.151.116 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable
...

at the same time:
$ ping google.com
PING google.com (209.85.148.139) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from fra07s07-in-f139.1e100.net (209.85.148.139): icmp_req=1 ttl=57
time=15.3 ms
...

here, 78.104.151.116 is my own IP in this network.
The destination IP is definitely reachable, I can reach it at the same moment
on a different machine in the same network. Or from my own machine if I first
ssh to another machine and connect from there.

The issue is hardly a network interface driver issue, because this
already happened with both WiFi and Ethernet connection.

It looks like the issue doesn't happen in all networks. In my home
network it didn't happen yet, but already in two other networks. I don't
know what makes the difference.

As I said, the issue is isolated to single destination hosts. At the same time,
the connection works normally for all other destinations.
I could solve this only by reboot up to now. Things I tried:
- restart networking
- suspend / wakeup again
- disconnect / reconnect network interface
- switch network interface (WiFi / Ethernet)
- ip route flush cache
- ip neigh flush all

I am no networking expert, but a sysadmin of the university network took
a look at my Computer when the issue appeared. He couldn't find out the
reason, but suspected it to be a kernel issue.

I think the posting at http://askubuntu.com/questions/100717/some-ips-
unreachable-after-resume-from-suspend describes the same issue, but I
didn't get any further feedback there.

For any further advice on how I could gather more useful information /
try to fix it I would be very helpful.

** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Description changed:

The following issue occured several times over the last month with Ubuntu
11.10 x86_64, kernel 3.0.0-16-generic.
It happened from the beginning (3.0.0-15). I didn't have this Computer
before, so I don't know if the issue is specific to this Ubuntu / kernel
version.

Sometimes, after waking up from suspend, single remote hosts are not
reachable. It may be the first host the system tries to connect to (or may be
the last one connected to before susped), but I'm not sure about that.
not reachable means there's no route. It's not a DNS issue because trying
to ping the IP itself also fails. Example ping output:

  $ ping 80.237.133.28
  PING 80.237.133.28 (80.237.133.28) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 78.104.151.116 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable
  ...

  at the same time:
  $ ping google.com
  PING google.com (209.85.148.139) 56(84) bytes of data.
  64 bytes from fra07s07-in-f139.1e100.net (209.85.148.139): icmp_req=1 ttl=57
time=15.3 ms
  ...

here, 78.104.151.116 is my own IP in this network.
The destination IP is definitely reachable, I can reach it at the same moment
on a different machine in the same network. Or from my own machine if I first
ssh to another machine and connect from there.

[Bug 957062] [NEW] expanding AcpiTables renders application unresponsive

2012-03-16 Thread didi_X8
Public bug reported:

In a generated report I wanted to check the collected data and expanded the
AcpiTables tab.
That started drawing a very long list of binary data. After 2 minutes it was
still drawing, I couldn't interact with the UI in any way.

[Bug 785034] Re: Pinta missing gtk-dialog-error icon on kubuntu 11.04

2012-02-09 Thread didi_X8
Had the same issue (11.10 running KDE here). gnome-icon-theme installed and
theme set to oxygen-gtk didn't work.
Installing gnome-icon-theme-full solved it.

[Bug 542943] Re: vlc assert failure: vlc: encoder/encoder.c:2481: x264_encoder_frame_end: Assertion `pic_out-i_pts = pic_out-i_dts' failed.

2010-06-14 Thread didi_X8
I am also affected by this bug.
All my efforts to work around this without building all (vlc, ffmpeg, x264)
from source failed. The reason is that the current vlc package in order to
support H.264 depends on libavcodec-extra-52 which itself depends on
libx264-85. Thus, even manually installing libx264-96 from a non-Ubuntu
repository (which should have the fix to this bug) didn't help. An updated
version of the vlc package depending on a fixed libx264 package is also needed.

[Bug 524466] [NEW] konsole tab names are lost randomly

2010-02-19 Thread didi_X8
Public bug reported:

I extensively use konsole with several open tabs, thus I am used to name then
in order to quickly navigate between them.
In KDE 3 that always worked fine and also was correctly restored after reboots.
In KDE 4 konsole however my tab names seem to get lost after a while, and
replaced by:
- first and 3rd tab: working directory : bash (was build and svn)
- second tab: : bash (was minicom)
- 4th tab: 40 (the only one still having the name I gave it)
- 5th and 6th tab: username : bash (not sure about old name)
- 7th and 8th tab: \t : bash (was vlc and maybe root, not sure)

See attached screenshot.

This is a few days old installation, the only configuration change in
konsole is that history contains 50.000 lines.

[Bug 524650] [NEW] kmix volume slider popup sometimes stuck

2010-02-19 Thread didi_X8
Public bug reported:

When clicking the kmix icon in systray, a small window with basically only
volume slider appears. Normally, when clicking the icon a 2nd time or when
clicking anywhere else, this small window disappears.
But sometimes that's not the case for me, that means the window just stays
there, no matter what I do. The only way I found to get rid of it in that
situation is to click the mixer button. Then the mixer window opens and the
small volume window finally disappears.
I didn't yet find any pattern of when that occurs or how to reproduce, seems
random.

[Bug 524466] Re: konsole tab names are lost randomly

2010-02-19 Thread didi_X8
I understand. I used the possibility to report directly from within the
affected programs, because that way needed info about my config is
automatically attached. What about this bug report now after
invalidation? Will it be thrown away? If so, I wonder. Why isn't it
forwarded to KDE (maybe automatically)? Wouldn't that make more sense?
