[Bug 1688018] Re: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6
For those using OpenVPN, I discovered that there is a package named 'openvpn-systemd-resolvd' that finally resolved this issue for me. Here's the synopsis for the package in the repo... "This is a helper script designed to integrate OpenVPN with the systemd-resolved service via DBus instead of trying to override /etc/resolv.conf, or manipulate systemd-networkd configuration files. Since systemd-229, the systemd-resolved service has an API available via DBus which allows directly setting the DNS configuration for a link. This script makes use of busctl from systemd to send DBus messages to systemd-resolved to update the DNS for the link created by OpenVPN." -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1688018 Title: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1688018/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1671606] Re: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1
I've done some additional testing and it seems as though both the network manager and the resolvconf package need to be downgraded to get to a working state. If either or both are at the latest revision (resolvconf = 1.78ubuntu4 and/or network-manager = 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1) name resolution through the DNS specified by the DHCP information for my PPTP tunnel (interface ppp0) doesn't work. In some instances when one or both packages were at the latest revision name resolution worked properly for a few minutes, then broke. The only stable working configuration I've found is having BOTH packages downgraded (resolvconf = 1.78ubuntu2 *AND* network-manager = 1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4). Hope this is helpful. [Bug 1671964] Re: DNS fails after reconnecting to a VPN
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1671606 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1671606 I have a similar problem. I tried rolling back the network manager from 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 to 1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4. Oddly, it seemed to fix DNS for a few minutes, but it reverted to not working. I noticed that a few days before the network manager was updated resolvconf also updated. I believe resolvconf is responsible for notifying applications (like the local resolver) when something like a DHCP lease gets established and a new DNS server is needs to be pointed to. More input... I downgraded the network manager from 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 to 1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4. It looks like the resolvconf package was updated on my machine on 3/2/2017 also. Isn't resolvconf responsible for updating DNS info when something like a DNS lease is obtained? I'm pretty sure I didn't see the problem until after the network-manager package was updated around 3/8/2017, but maybe there was cached information that allowed it to continue to work for a while. [Bug 1671606] Re: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1
network-manager:amd64 (1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4, 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1) I'm seeing a very similar problem, except I'm using a PPTP tunnel. I'm on a Mint MATE 18.1 distro. On approximately 3/8/2017 the network manager package was updated and about that time is when name resolution stopped working when connected to a PPTP tunnel. I can see that the ppp0 interface is getting a DHCP address from the remote end, and it is also receiving a DNS IP address for the remote network. That information gets populated into 'etc/ppp/resolv.conf' and the timestamp for that file corresponds to the date/time I establish the PPTP connection. I am able to reach machines on the remote network by IP address. This worked as of last week (approx 3/8/2017) and had been working for a year or more prior. I'm not sure how the local resolver stuff works, but it seems like the proper information is being retrieved from the remote end point (IP address, DNS info, etc.), but the local resolver is not pulling in the information. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1671606 Title: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1671606/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1018419] [NEW] grub fails to boot OS images on second hard drive
Public bug reported: Dell Precision T3400 SATA Slot0: (sda) Xubuntu 12.04 + Win7 (new hard drive) SATA Slot1: DVD-RW drive SATA Slot2: (sdb) Kubuntu 10.04 + Win Vista (old hard drive moved from SATA slot0) I recently installed Xubuntu 12.04 on my machine. I wanted to preserve the Win Vista and Kubuntu 10.04 installs that already existed on the machine and add a Win7 install. Here are the steps I took: 1) remove original hard drive from SATA slot0 2) install new hard drive on SATA slot0 3) install win7 on first partition of new HD 4) install the old HD in SATA slot2 (SATA slot1 has DVD) 5) install Xubuntu 12.04 on second partition of new HD During Xubuntu install, all of the OS's were detected (Xubuntu 12.04 + Win7 on SATA slot0, and Kubuntu 10.04 + Vista on SATA slot2). When I boot, there are grub menu entries for all four OS's, but only Win7 and Xubuntu (both on the new HD in SATA slot0 - sda) are bootable. If I select either OS (Vista or Kubuntu 10.04) on the original HD (now in SATA slot2 - sdb) I get the message you need to load the kernel first and I eventually get returned to the grub menu. On advice in this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2007743) I used the boot-repair utility to try to fix the problem. Boot info output from boot-repair is here (http://paste.ubuntu.com/1053651/), or see attached text file. After running boot-repair, the error I now get when trying to boot from either OS on sdb is no such partition. **Intersetingly**, If I hit 'c' on the grub menu and type in the 'ls (hd1,5)/' command, I get 'no such partition'. I then type 'exit' to get back to the menu and hit 'c' again and repeat 'ls (hd1,5)/' and it works. There is a vmlinuz and an initrd.img. If I continue with the commands below, the screen eventually goes blank and seems to hang. linux (hd1,5)/vmlinuz root=/dev/sdb5 ro initrd (hd1,5)/initrd.img boot Note that if I boot into the Xubuntu 12.04 OS I can mount and inspect all of the other OS partitions on sda and sdb. ** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1018419 Title: grub fails to boot OS images on second hard drive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1018419/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

sudhir, See my posts above. In post #14 I give a command you can run on the command line which should get networking up and going. This solution is only temporary. It does not carry over on reboot. You should now be able to update packages. If the issue is fixed in the update packages, you should be able to go in and configure a network interface. In post #15 I give a more permanent fix. If the updates don't fix the problem you can use this one. -- gnome-network-admin on UbuntuStudio doesnt allow to configure either wired networks or wireless https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570828 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 548891] Re: keyboard input broken due to invalid SKIP keyboard model
Charles makes a good point. I used the easy(unattended) install when I created my VM. Something in the VMware install script is probably be causing the keyboard type to be set as 'SKIP'. That said, it works initially before upgrading packages and breaks after package upgrades. So it might be a good idea to see if the package upgrade is causing the keyboard type to change, or if something in the package update is just illuminating a dormant problem caused by the vmware install script. -- keyboard input broken due to invalid SKIP keyboard model https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/548891 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Charles, There's a user in a forum at the link below that had similar behavior regarding the on-screen keyboard not working. [Bug 548891] Re: keyboard input broken at gnome login prompt after package updates
After getting logged in there are no issues at all with the keyboard. I only see the problem at the login screen. 1) The keyboard does not appear to react at all to key presses at the Ubuntu login screen. 2) I cannot Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get to a console when booted to the login screen 3) During a normal boot if I hit keys while it is booting I can see those key presses output to the terminal before it switches to the Ubuntu splash screen 4) booting in recovery mode I can navigate the text 'Recovery Menu' and drop into a root shell and the keyboard works fine. 5) I have not tried uninstalling the vmware guest tools, but I have upgraded the kernel twice, which breaks the vmware tools (i.e. they are not compiled to work with the new kernel yet) and requires you to re-run the tools config program. After installing the new kernel and rebooting the vmware tools are not running. The same keyboard problem is observed. I login and reconfigure the tools for the new kernel and get them up and running, then if I logout or reboot at this point, I see the same keyboard problem when I get back to the login screen. 6) keyboard input seems to work fine before the login screen and after logging in. I just doesn't work at the Ubuntu login screen. From the link someone posted above and a similar post I found on the vmware site (link below), others are seeing the problem as well. http://communities.vmware.com/message/1503455#236418 (note the original post may not be related, but a few of the later posts look like the same situation I describe) -- keyboard input broken at gnome login prompt after package updates https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/548891 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 548891] Re: keyboard input broken at gnome login prompt after package updates
* keyboard layout: I have to be logged in via the on-screen keyboard in order to do the Ctrl+Alt+F1. After logging in and Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get the terminal screen I logged in and executed the requested 'sudo DISPLAY=:0 xprop -root |grep NAMES.S' command. Here is the output: _XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = evdev, SKIP, us, , terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp * plymouth (splash screen): I have to be logged in in order to get a Ctrl+Alt+F1 text terminal, if I go back (i.e. Ctrl+Alt+F7), I get back to my logged in session where the keyboard works normally(as it did before I went to the text terminal). If I wait long enough before going back from the text terminal I get the Ubuntu screensaver password dialog and I am able to type in my password there without problem. Ctrl+Alt+F8 from the text terminal goes to a blank text screen with a blinking cursor, but doesn't respond to any keyboard input. Interesting side note: If I login, Ctrl+Alt+F1 to a text terminal, then resize my vmware window, it goes to the Ubuntu login screen, however, the keyboard input still doesn't work. sudo apt-get purge plymouth and a reboot did nothing to resolve the issue. * libxklavier when changing the password: Keyboard does not work before selecting a user. [Bug 548891] [NEW] keyboard input broken at gnome login prompt after package updates
Public bug reported: VMWare Player 3.0.1 build-227600 Host OS: Windows XP Guest OS: Ubuntu 10.04 Beta, Kernel 2.6.32-17-generic After installing a slew of Ubuntu updates on 3/26/2010 keyboard input at the gnome login prompt no longer works. The mouse does work and I am able to use the 'on-screen keyboard' accessibility tool to input my password and gain entry. After logging in, there does not seem to be any problems using the keyboard, I experience the problem only at the gnome login screen. I suspected that after updating that possibly some of the vmware drivers may not be working correctly, so I ran vmware-config-tools.pl to recompile the tools, which didn't work. I've tried a couple of cycles of rebooting the VM and restarting vmware player, which hasn't resolved the problem either. [Bug 222270] Re: [Hardy 8.04] nvidia-glx-new adept error amd64
I just installed Kubuntu 8.04.1 AMD64 and had the same problem except it was the nvidia-glx package, not nvidia-glx-new. [Bug 231276] Re: ti_usb_3410_5052 driver doesn't load some devices
I'm posting to corroborate Steve's findings and to advocate for a fix in Ubuntu. I've experienced the same issues with the ti_usb_3410_5052 driver under Hardy(kernel 2.6.24-16 through -19, thus far). Texas Instruments' MSP- FET430UIF and EZ430 programmer/emulators are broken with the current Hardy ti_usb_3410_5052 driver. Applying a driver (made available by Steve) from the vanilla kernel I was able to get my programmers working again. It breaks every time I upgrade my kernel package and I must re- apply the driver fix. This is going to cause a lot of heartache and frustration for MSP430 developers. Getting a development system up and going for MSP430 is already a tough exercise. This problem had my development shut down until I ran across a news list post by Steve explaining his findings and a fix. -- ti_usb_3410_5052 driver doesn't load some devices https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/231276 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 210287] [NEW] PS3: KDM login not working after install from Kubuntu 7.10 Alternate CD
Public bug reported: After installing from Kubuntu Gutsy(7.10) Alternate install CD for PS3 I was unable to get the KDM login screen. The PS3 would always boot to a command prompt. I traced this issue to a double entry in the /etc/default/locale file which was causing the /etc/init.d/kdm script to fail when checking locale. The file contained two identical lines... LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LANG=en_US.UTF-8 Running the /etc/init.d/kdm script yielded the following... [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/kdm start sed: -e expression #1, char 32: unterminated `s' command Deleting the extra line in /etc/default/locale resolved the problem and allowed the /etc/init.d/kdm script to run from the command line and on boot. Perhaps this was triggered by bug# 154083. I got to a point in the install where the installer wasn't able to find the linux-cell kernel image. It produced a menu where I had to select a kernel image. I selected linux-image-2.6.22-14-cell and the install continued. If I remember correctly, it went through some of the install steps that had already been performed (keyboard, timezone setup, etc.). Perhaps this caused the second entry in /etc/default/locale. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: gutsy kdm login ps3 -- PS3: KDM login not working after install from Kubuntu 7.10 Alternate CD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210287 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
