@Jobo Thanks for your documentation. I have the rtl819xSE using a rtl8191SEvB and am seeing nearly the exact same thing. 3.0.7-still happening. I think what's happening is Firefox insists on opening in a almost full screen, albeit unmaximized. Then, when I double click the title bar it chooses to actually maximize...and probably vice versa. Safe mode caused Firefox to open in a half-screen vertical frame, which could then be double clicked to go maximized. Therefore, I believe this problem is still apparent. While it's been a while since some discussion has occurred, this problem is still occurring on my system and affecting me. If there is a supposed duplicate, I can't find it.
