[Bug 763526] [NEW] Grub shows up blank

2011-04-17 Thread dreamsare4living
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

I have just reinstalled my complete system. Windows 7 first and Ubuntu
11.04 second. When my computer is booting up a blank screen shows, where
I should see the GRUB menu, after the bios screen. It turns my monitor
to sleep, stating; Input not supported.

I can still select Ubuntu, or Windows by using my arrow keys and
pressing enter, but I don't see what I select.

I have installed ubuntu 11.04 from a beta1 install disk, but I have
updated my system with the most recent updates.

  Binary package hint: unity-2d

I've been having multiple issues with crashes of the Applications and
Files menus in Unity proper. Per Mikkel Kamstrup Erlandsen's request in
the 742085 comments, I tried Unity-2d to see if the problems would
persist -- and it looks like we've got our answer. (Or something
completely different that just LOOKS related...)

Applications and Files menus show up blank, and typing commands into
them does not seem to work. (Alt-F2 works for running commands, and
DOES show recently-run programs.) I believe this crash occurred when I
tried to open the Applications menu.

Importing contacts from the cloud just started to work normally after

[Bug 725434] Re: Nvidia drivers lead to extra memory usage for each process using libGL

2011-04-09 Thread dreamsare4living
I just said that the problem disappeared from my system, but this turns
out only to be partly true. When the Unity desktop is on for a few hours
it seems like some processes are slowly increasing memory. Like compiz
started at 70 MB Ram, but increased to 160 MB Ram in a few hours.

I have just restarted my system because it was again using more than 800
MB Ram, with just Firefox open. Not 1.3 GiB Ram like before, but still
to much, which is making my system getting slower and slower the longer
it is running.

[Bug 754152] Re: Evolution unable to open CouchDB address book

2011-04-08 Thread dreamsare4living
The original error message is now gone. But after clicking the address
book it is saying, there are no items to show in this view, while I have
over 50 contacts on the cloud. Then, after about 30 seconds it is coming
with the following error message;

This address book cannot be opened. This either means that an incorrect URI
was entered, or the server is unreachable.
Detailed error message: Timeout was reached

I have now repeated this process;

$ killall -9 e-addressbook-factory
$ export COUCHDB_DEBUG_MESSAGES=1
$ /usr/lib/evolution/e-addressbook-factory

And started evolution again, clicked the address book and the original
output appeared again. Now with another output;

I am using Unity 2D. When I opened the applications menu through the
main ubuntu menu in the top left corner, it didn't want to close
anymore. The Unity sidebar/launcher and the opened applications meme
became unresponsive for about a minute. Afterwards it closed down and
asked me to file a bug report.

If you need any more info, just let me know.

I have found my issue in another bug report;

[Bug 725434] Re: Nvidia drivers lead to extra memory usage for each process using libGL

2011-04-05 Thread dreamsare4living
I also have an enormous RAM increase since I updated my 10.10 system to
11.04 beta. Whenever I did a fresh reboot of my system it was using
under 300MB RAM from Ubuntu 6.06 to 10.10. Now it is using around 800MB
RAM after a fresh reboot and is going up to 1.3 GB RAM with just Firefox
4 and Empathy open. As I am on a 1.5 GB RAM system it is also starting
to use SWAP space to cope with the increase.

This memory increase is causing the whole system to slow down enormously
and applications to crash often.

I am using the Nvidia Proprietary drivers and have a Nvidia Geforce 6100
graphics card.

Hope this bug will be released before the final release. Otherwise it is
going to affect a lot of users.

[Bug 735482] Re: average load is higher than 2 and cpu is at 100% when running unity

2011-04-05 Thread dreamsare4living
I have just made screenshots of my system monitor after a fresh reboot.
I didn't open any other program. It shows my system using 793,6 MB RAM,
while it used to be under 300 MB in 10.10.

I did also attach a screenshot of all the running processes. Compiz is
running quite normal, around 70 MB. But it seems to be running a lot of
small processes, also some processes tied into unity which are adding up
to the total memory usage.

But it shows that unity might not be the only cause (though I don't know
exactly which processes belong to unity), it is the total amount of
processes in 11.04 that add up to the around 250% increased memory usage
on start up.

Now the question is, should I file another bug report about high memory
usage of Ubuntu 11.04 in general? Or is it Canonicals deliberate choice
to sacrifice a once lightweight system for a possibly better user
experience? I think in type of resource usage 11.04 is now on par with
windows 7.

2011-04-04 Thread dreamsare4living
Update Manager just crashed when trying to update Ubuntu 11.04. I have
just upgraded my computer from an Ubuntu 10.10 install. Apt-get in
terminal is working fine.

This is the error it gave: update-manager crashed with DBusException in
_run(): org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply,
the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout
expired, or the network connection was broken.

I am sure that the network connection wasn't broken.

[Bug 750864] [NEW] Unity Panel applets do not open menu after click

2011-04-04 Thread dreamsare4living
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

I have just upgraded ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04 Beta 1. Often when I am
trying to click the applets (for example the network, sound, time applet
and also the application menu; file, edit etc.) the menu doesn't open.
When I am hovering over an applet with my mouse it only shows the hover
state of the button, but not the attached menu. See the attached
screenshot. It happens about 25 - 30% of the time.

The rest of the time the menu works, but not always flawlessly.
Sometimes the menu's only flicker for a short while and disappear. And
sometimes it only shows the shadow surrounding the menu, but not the
menu itself.

The bug also affects me. I did just upgrade 10.10 to 11.04 beta 1. I am
using ubuntu since 6.06, and all the previous versions have been using
around 300MB RAM on my machine, with no applications open. Right now
Ubuntu 11.04 is using 896MB RAM with only Firefox 4 and the terminal
open (when I am using more applications it is going up to 1.3GB) Also it
is using 410 MB SWAP space. Before my computer never needed the SWAP
partition.

This is of course with nvidia drivers installed and compiz turned on.

[Bug 543490] [NEW] does not mount External HD automatically

2010-03-21 Thread dreamsare4living
Public bug reported:

[Bug 483531] [NEW] guides don't work and selection trouble

2009-11-16 Thread dreamsare4living
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and made a clean install 2 weeks ago. Since that
time my guides do not work anymore in GIMP. I checked if my guides have
been turned on in the view menu. They are.

Also after I tried to deploy a guide the ants around a selected area
are not visible anymore, while in fact the area is still selected and I
am still able to edit it. This can only be fixed by restarting GIMP and
not touching the guides anymore.

I am using Ubuntu and GIMP since 6.06 and never had this problem. Does
anyone know if this has anything to do simply with my settings or a
Nvidia, Gnome, Compiz or GIMP related bug?

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 421406] [NEW] compiz nvidia titlebar glitches

With Compiz on, whenever a 3d effect is being used, such as the desktop
cube, minimizing the window, using a window switcher, etc. I experience

like the background is shining through. I use the Dust theme, but I also
experience these glitches with all the other themes, like the Human

I forgot to say that these glitches only occur when a window is
maximized. There is no problem with unmaximized windows.

[Bug 355155] Re: Clocksource tsc unstable leads to lockups in Ubuntu Jaunty

2009-06-13 Thread dreamsare4living
Ubuntu hard locks ever since Hardy came out last year.

I did never experience it before. Hardy was terrible it locked almost
every 5 minutes. I dropped Hardy and went back to Gutsy. Intrepid was a
lot better, but still hardlocked sometimes. After one month I went to
Debian Lenny. Two weeks ago I tried the new Jaunty (which i'm still
using now), which also hardlocks on me, for about once every two days.

The hardlocks are very random, similar to my experience with Hardy.
There doesn't seem to be any connection with the programs I use, nor to
the kernel, nor to my Nvidia card. Jaunty sometimes even hard locks
during installation.

I don't feel happy about the hard locks still excisting. I left Window$
and wanted stability. Ubuntu innovated a lot in the last three years,
there are a lot of changes I feel very happy about, but Ubuntu just
doesn't seem to be stable anymore.

I have attached my lspci, if you need any more info, just let me know

For me it is not an issue at this right moment, as I am on Debian 5.0. I
have been on Intrepid for a while after it became stable in October and
also didn't encounter this issue anymore.

[Bug 235485] Re: evolution crashes constantly

2008-10-11 Thread dreamsare4living
The problem also happens to me. Since this morning, whenever I start
Evolution it crashes after about 5 seconds. I just migrated from
Thunderbird to Evolution, finding it better to use, but right now
Evolution is not usable at all. I also tried to reinstall Evolution and
all its dependencies, but it wouldn't work.

I am using Evolution 2.24 at Intrepid Beta on a amd 64 system. I have
attached the evolution crash report (from /var/crash) with this message.
I hope this will help!

[Bug 213053] Re: Totem is 'uninterruptible'

2008-10-09 Thread dreamsare4living
Totem was also uninterruptible on my system after I was watching a flash
movie which I downloaded from Youtube. I couldn't kill totem in the
system monitor, so I tried to kill it with sudo kill process id,
that also didn't work. When restarting my system ubuntu logged out, but
didn't want to go back to the boot screen, so I had to force reboot my
computer.

I am on a fully upgraded Ubuntu Intrepid Beta amd 64 system. I am using
Intrepid since it's alpha 5 stage and didn't have this problem before.

Totem version: 2.24.2
GStreamer version: 0.10.21
swfdec-gnome version: 2.22.2-2
Kernel version: 2.6.27-6-generic

[Bug 271665] Re: google earth hardlocks intrepid alpha 5

After my G-Earth crash the program did not show the planet anymore. I
tried to reinstall G-E, but now the whole program fails to start. I will
remove it and install the older version 4.2. But because of this I was
not able to reproduce the crash.

I added my recent Xorg.0.log.old. I don't know if it can help you?

[Bug 272449] [NEW] Ugly system tray icons/kicker falling partly away/Inverted colors kickoff

2008-09-20 Thread dreamsare4living
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kicker

Ugly squares system tray.

Since I have been using kubuntu intrepid alpha 6, I noticed that my
systemtray icons are surrounded by ugly squares (screenshot attached).
Sometimes the icons fall away completely, showing squares with my
wallpaper through it. It looks like a transparancy problem to me.

Kicker falling away partly.

Sometimes when I use GTK applications such as Mozilla Thunderbird or
when I use openoffice programs different parts of kicker are falling
away, showing my wallpaper only. This happens frequently and randomly to
the clock, systemtray, windowswitcher and the taskmanager. Sometimes
even my whole wallpaper falls away showing a black screen only until I
minimize or close the application.

Inverted kickoff colors.

When using the same applications my kickoff is sometimes displaying
inverted colors.

I am working on a Acer Aspire 9302AWSMi Laptop, AMD 64 processor, Nvidia
GeForce Go 6100 videocard. The problems happend both in Kubuntu Intrepid
Alpha 5 and Alpha 6.

Unfortunatly I was not able to make more screenshots of the inverted
colors and kicker falling away. I hope these problems can be fixed. I
always used Gnome before, but I love the new KDE 4.1 and really want to
use it for a longer time, but I will be forced to go back to Gnome when
these problems continue.

I just installed Google Earth in Intrepid Alpha 5 (KDE 4.1 amd64). While

Restarting the x-server was not possible, so I had to do a forced

in Gutsy, but this is the first time for it to happen.
