[Bug 1913783] [NEW] Keyboard doesn't work at login

2021-01-29 Thread einar.kristian
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Kernel 5.8 won't accept keystrokes at ubuntu login.

I have to switch to kernel 5.4 during grub startup.

It took quite some time to find this workaround. I'll try several
workarounds and document it, so I can avoid wasting time on things like
this. I saw in some posts that it might be related to NVIDIA drivers.

It would be nice if this problem could be fixed.

[Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2019-07-30 Thread einar.kristian
Running 18.04.2 and the mouse started to jump to top right corner on
screen 1 out of 2 a few days ago. Tried #32, but ...libinput-all was
also removed and after reboot, no response from mouse or keyboard.
Started in protected mode and reinstalled libinput. Still same problem.
I've tried Logitech wireless, Bluetooth and wired mouse. When running
sudo cat /dev/input mice, there is continuous input, even when the mouse
has jumped to the top right corner. I've also changed batteries in the
Logitech mouse. I certainly would like this problem to be solved. For
now, I'll continue to search for solutions on the web.

[Bug 1734424] Re: Mouse cursor jumps to top of screen when moved

2017-11-25 Thread einar.kristian
Issue solved. I have really no clue to why. I switched to xubuntu, no
change. I tried to switch off either monitor, no change. I checked all
usb plugs, no change. I moved the mouse transmitter to another port, and
then it all worked. I put it back into the old port, everything works.
Lets see a few days, it may have been electrical contact.

[Bug 1734424] [NEW] Mouse cursor jumps to top of screen when moved

2017-11-25 Thread einar.kristian
Public bug reported:

Creating this bug report has been a challenge. Every time I move the
cursor, it jumps back to the top of the screen, slightly to the right.
So I repeat and repeat and repeat until I get a hit on what I need to
do.

I have tried to purge nvidia, use nouveau, different versions of nvidia,
purged xorg, tried ubuntu instead of lubuntu, nothing improves the mouse
issue.

It all started after an update a few days ago. The mouse has been
working perfectly until then. I have tried different mouse types,
replaced batteries. Nothing works. So now I am stuck with a computer
that does not work.

[Bug 349767] Re: external USB hard drive disconnects

2011-01-30 Thread einar.kristian
I‘ve been experiencing the same problem for a long time for USB sticks
and USB drives. LaCie 750GB, SanDisk drives. I’ll try the proposal from
Matej. It‘s annoying. The LaCie sometimes when I try to copy large
amount of data, disconnects and I hear the harddisk search continuously
for tracks. I need to restart the LaCie. Hope the solution proposed by
Matej also fixes this problem. I’m running Ubuntu on a MacMini.

 Hi Einar,

Since you've upgraded since then and, excepted the problem with OOo which
is already known, the is no other relevant information about the upgrade
failure, I'm afraid that we can't do much from here.
Can we close this report ?

 Thanks.

[Bug 517905] Re: Tried to upgrade to 9.10 on Mac Mini kubuntu

2010-02-06 Thread einar.kristian
I had to do the upgrade the hard way, using aptitude, dkpg, holding,
deleting and reinstalling. I've been through this at every major
upgrade.

The first problem seemed to be related to lirc and one another program.
Later, when I had passed that hurdle, there was something with
openoffice.org-core. That took many rounds in and out of aptitude and
dpkdg.

The files attached were the ones I was able to attach. One file was
empty and apt-term wouldn't allow attachment.

Re: [Bug 116465] Re: Update to feisty failed on 3 different computers

2009-03-26 Thread einar.kristian
Lars,

No problem with me, I'm running Intrepid now.

Einar

2009/3/26 Lars Wirzenius l...@ubuntu.com

This bug happened in the edgy-feisty timeframe, but no-one else seems to
have had it. I'm told the Qt frontend to update-manager was a bit flaky
then, so it was probably a bug that has since been fixed. I would like
to mark this as probably fixed by now, but Launchpad only supported
 invalid.

einar.kristian: if you disagree, please reopen, or ask me, and I'll be
glad to reopen it for you. Thanks for your patience, and sorry it took
two years to deal with this.

Re: [Bug 172303] Re: Trying to upgrade to 7.10

2007-11-28 Thread einar.kristian
Nanley,

I was trying to upgrade to 7.10 using the Update Manager from the System
menu. I guess that was wrong using Kubuntu, but I did. Update Manager failed
and asked to send an error report. I accepted. An Konqueror internet page
window opened and showed the message that the URI was too long. So there I
was, in the middle of an upgrade with no way out..

I've got several years of Debian use behind me, so I turned to CTRL-ALT-F2
and aptitude. However, I was locked out due to some process still keeping a
lock on update processes. I used ps -A to try to figure out which process. I
seemed to be a python script. I killed it and retried aptitude. The rest was
a pretty smooth ride, had to answer a few questions along the way.

Regards Einar

I'm sorry, could you please rephrase your description?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Looking at the log file you provided I noticed the following
 message:

 Failed to fetch
 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty-backports/universe/binary-i386/Packages.bz2
 Feil MD5sum

Did you try updating all 3 systems on the same day from the same mirror?
 Thanks in advance.
