[Bug 1952976] Re: gnome fails to respond

2022-02-01 Thread elatllat
Because this is intermittent I'll try running with the non-Ubuntu gnome
UI for a few months and see what happens.

I like the upstream gnome hidden dock anyway, but there may still be
Ubuntu customizations somewhere because I still have minimize, etc that
are not in gnome-fedora.

I rebooted as requested by upgrade and the bug reporter found this;
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdeconnect/+bug/1912266
so that may be related or just caused by me calling gnome-session-quit.

Extensions app only has builtin.

ls -1 ~/.local/share/gnome-shell
application_state
gnome-overrides-migrated

echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
wayland

The 2 bars were frozen but the already open app and the mouse pointer still
work.

not responding to clicks (due to something crashing or not) seems to
happen shortly after switching from charging to battery, otherwise it's
intermittent... maybe trackpad related...

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2021-04-05 Thread elatllat
I used Xorg Gnome on Ubuntu 18.04 every day for it's life and never had
an unresponsive desktop. (lock screen is buggy but that's different)

I used Wayland Gnome on Ubuntu 20.04 every day for it's life and get
unresponsive desktop every few weeks.

Considering Ubuntu 21.04 is to default to Wayland Gnome is there some
other data I can share next time my desktop crashes? Or is beta Testing
more likely to get something done about this?

2021-03-03 Thread elatllat
Thanks for answering Daniel.

  1. Only the default Ubuntu AppIndicators and Dock are enabled in the
'Extensions' app.

  2. ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions No such file or directory

  3. Reboot and the problem happens again every few weeks or months

  4. should I run "apport-collect 1917066" any time or only via ssh when
the UI is broken?

2019-09-06 Thread elatllat
yah I have actually never seen a bug fixed on the Ubuntu bug tracker, just deal
with it upstream or use a different distribution.
IMO Ubuntu should delete bugs.launchpad.net and just merge pull requests on
github/etc.

- dock is visible in the login screen

[Bug 192734] Re: lsof got can't stat() tmpfs file system errors

2017-06-17 Thread elatllat
I can reliably reproduce this issue by restarting the remote service or server.
1) cifs should recover but instead is unusable until remount and starts
flooding the server (other file systems have a errors=remount-ro option; cifs
would benefit from a errors=remount option)
2) lsof should somehow list that cifs is attempting to use the mount

lsof | grep ws

[Bug 1619933] Re: FFe: Sync mediainfo 0.7.88-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2016-09-05 Thread elatllat
> First you don't test with the command line you provided...
As already mentioned there are no build instructions for mediainfo so I can't
test properly (with git bisect)

> so it is not possible to know if your issue is related to Matroska; you also
> don't provide the content of $F; when the output is empty, this usually means

As already shown with the ffprobe example, every other application thinks the
file is a valid matroska.

> Second this issue is not related to this ticket (again: before or after this
> ticket is handled, it changes nothing)
As already stated the mediainfo change log leads me to believe otherwise;
upstream might fix it.

That link dose not have builds for the architecture I'm using.

>No quotes around $F
That is not the issue though it brings up 2 mediainfo shortcomings: the exit
code is 1 if it's given a bad path or a file it can't decode when it should be
using more than one exit code. And all non-zero exits should really have a text
error message on stderr.

> Here, you pollute a ticket with something not related to it and it prevents

Sorry I thought I was adding reasons for Ubutnu to sync with upstream. I'll
stop polluting your ticket.

[Bug 1619933] Re: FFe: Sync mediainfo 0.7.88-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2016-09-04 Thread elatllat
The mediainfo change log indicate there were some Matroska fixes in more recent
versions so getting the most resent version in ubuntu might fix it.
I'd have to look up how to make a sample to send...
I can't find compile instructions to verify it's a mediainfo regression and not
a packaging one.
For now I'm using ffprobe which has the following output to compare:

[Bug 1601830] [NEW] man5 interfaces needs an update because of systemd

2016-07-11 Thread elatllat
Public bug reported:

http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/xenial/man5/interfaces.5.html

mentions eth0 which will result in networking.service exiting with an
error (Cannot find device "eth0")

Using the correct naming convention results in (RTNETLINK answers: File
exists) unless you reboot (that might be a second bug)

[Bug 371289] Re: fail to delete directory over sshfs with nautilus

2014-03-30 Thread elatllat
this might have just been fixed in that last commit to sshfs, we just
need some testing and the new version in the repo

[Bug 455024] Re: resize2fs: memory allocation failed while trying to resize

2013-08-28 Thread elatllat
So 4 years later,
are we just not using debian/ubuntu for large file systems?
or are people using an ext alternative?

resize2fs -M /dev/mapper/crypt_left
resize2fs 1.42.5 (29-Jul-2012)
Resizing the filesystem on /dev/mapper/crypt_left to 1885633106 (4k) blocks.
resize2fs: Memory allocation failed while trying to resize
/dev/mapper/crypt_left
Please run 'e2fsck -fy /dev/mapper/crypt_left' to fix the filesystem
after the aborted resize operation.

[Bug 455024] Re: resize2fs: memory allocation failed while trying to resize

2013-08-28 Thread elatllat
Thanks for the quick answer tytso.

I used resize2fs to do an online grow of from 8TB to 12TB and that worked fine.
now I'm trying to offline shrink it back down to 8TB and it's unable to do so.

I am using a raspberrypi so it's 32-bit and limited to 256MB and I have 2x that
in swap.
I am using debian not ubuntu but I'm guessing this is common code.

uname -a
Linux test 3.6.11+ #474 PREEMPT Thu Jun 13 17:14:42 BST 2013 armv6l GNU/Linux

(taken during a e2fsck -fy )
free
 total used free sharedbuffers cached
Mem:237648 225440 12208 0 63240 11796
-/+ buffers/cache: 150404 87244
Swap: 475132 13444 461688

I was watching top and never saw it use more that 53% of the RAM but I
may have missed the crucial moment.

I'll contact linux-e...@vger.kernel.org as you suggest.

[Bug 455024] Re: resize2fs: memory allocation failed while trying to resize

2013-08-28 Thread elatllat
An inode is only 256 bytes, the super block is only 1024 bytes, and I am
likely missing something here but I see no reason to require more than a
few inodes in RAM at any given time (and this seems to be the case for
creating, growing, checking, and repairing). I would expect resize2fs to
have a buffer of up to available RAM to speed things up, but only need a
few MB in RAM for any operation. I would also expect that If there was
some minimum amount of RAM required resize2fs would check and calculate
before hand and tell the user how much RAM is required. maybe even warn
when growing to a size resize2fs will not be able to shrink down from.

I guess e2fsprogs still has some room to improve.

[Bug 1133525] [NEW] Acer C7 support

2013-02-26 Thread elatllat
Public bug reported:

The Acer C7 is a popular and economic USB3 computer.
Please officially support the Acer C7 in Ubuntu for ARM.

Currently only 3 ARM devises are supported:
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/arm

Related bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1

The C7 is half the price of the next cheapest USB3 device.
If Ubuntu supported the C7 it would show humanity towards others.
