[Bug 187671] Re: sdhci module hangs Everex StepNote 2053T

2011-11-09 Thread eldragon
Mikko, blacklisting the sdhci module will make suspend/hibernate lockups
go away. i find it more important than being able to read sd cards
(which does not work anyways)

maybe uninstalling the device in windows will help too. i dont have it
installed to test.

[Bug 187671] Re: sdhci module hangs Everex StepNote 2053T

2011-11-08 Thread eldragon
yes, the reserve command still works.

the kernel team is probably reluctant to apply the patch because:

a) its an ugly hack

b) a workaround exists

also, i seem to be the only one left using these notebooks,

finally. the sdhci device in this notebook is a Piece of crap which also
breaks suspend / hibernate

so the prefered solution still is to blacklist the module entirely
(makes the reserve line redundant).

if you wish a solution for ubuntu, just detect the hardware and
blacklist the module on the fly

[Bug 305339] Re: Intrepid regression: Suspend from Gnome menu fails to resume on Twinhead H12Y clone laptop

2009-05-13 Thread eldragon
jennifer, i dont know if you managed to fix this, but under archlinux i
had this very same problem (same laptop)

i had to manually remove some modules to get it to resume correctly. so
i resorted to creating a special hook for pm-suspend (adding the modules
to the suspend_modules viariable didnt cut it for me).. here it goes:

file located at /etc/pm/sleep.d/ should be +x

if im not mistaken (which i might), addressing under 64bit is of 40bit
instead of 32bit, maybe you need to add another 00 to the address. try

i might be really wrong though ;)

to be more specific on the problem, it happened constantly under ubuntu
8.10, i switched to arch and the problem only happened once. the sensor
applet doesnt disappears, it just doesnt show text, if you set it to
icon+value, you will see the icon gauge at minimum and no temperature
text. this is due to not finding the ACPI sensor in
/proc/acpi/thermal_zone.

[Bug 298858] [NEW] sometimes /proc/acpi/thermal_zone appears empty and cpu fan runs non stop

2008-11-16 Thread eldragon
Public bug reported:

i dont know where exactly to post this. ive been tracking several bug
reports but none seems to fit my problem. so here it goes.

in hardy everything worked fine, under intrepid:

sometimes, and i mean it, sometimes, computer boots, with the following
symptoms:

- /proc/acpi/thermal_zone appears empty
- due to thermal_zone being empty, lm_sensors doesnt detect my thrermal sensors
through acpi
- and since there is no thermal gauge, the cpu fan runs non stop (it usually
starts at 50C and stops at 60C)

WHEN the sensor works correctly, the fan does too. everything is running
smoothly.

the notebook is an everex stepnote sa2053t

im attaching dmesg, lspci -vvnn and lsmod

[Bug 298372] [NEW] battery power criticaly low does not clean shutdown

2008-11-15 Thread eldragon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

using intrepid ibex, same behaviour in hardy

when the battery power is criticaly low, and the gnome power management
setting is set to shutdown. what it actually means, is it powers off the
laptop directly, without doing a clean shutdown. maybe its the correct
behaviour, but it gives me the creeps, and i cannot set it to hibernate,
since it doesnt work on this laptop.

ways to reproduce:

1. set it to shutdown.

2. drain the battery

[Bug 290230] Re: Intrepid - configuring network during boot takes very long

2008-11-13 Thread eldragon
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 293023 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293023

hmm, i did remove network manager. hence the need to setup
/etc/network/interfaces

my wireless chipset is the rt73, im using the legacy drivers built from
source from serialmonkey. the reason is that the includded rt73usb
driver does not work as well as it should (network is slow,
intermittent, or fails after a couple of minutes).

either the duplicate it comes from is different, or it should have its
title changed, since it affects other hardware too.

i think this fix will never be included in intrepid. i get the feeling
developers dont pay much attention to launchpad entries anymore.

ive been tracking some bugs and there has not been a single response in
none of them. maybe the launchpad system wasnt that good an idea after
all..

PS. im taking the abuse of this post to ask all everex stepnote sa2053t,
whats their status on their intrepid ibex update...because im in pain.
there are some bugs i cant help but notice...and notice they go
unnoticed in lanchpad.

PPS. the excessive use of the word notice has been noticed, and was
intentional.

precisely, the ralink rt73 module which is supported by th NM 0.7 isnt as
stable as it should, and wireless signal jumps up and down. overal performance,
extremely poor.
the legacy rt73 module works like a charm, but NM must be out of the equation.

have you managed to get a sony memory stick working? it isnt being
detected by the kernel here (insert mstick, and dmesg doesnt drop any
info on it). sdcards work ok.

[Bug 274995] Re: MASTER storing ALSA mixer element values during shutdown hangs nondeterministically if non-loopback network interfaces are still up

2008-11-07 Thread eldragon
@ Nicolas: yes, yes, you are definately right. there seems to be some
kind of vacation taking since the release. ive seen more regressions on
this release than any other. nothing mayor. but the ammount of
technicalites have long past their bearable threshold.

i was too considering another distribution, once my exams are over and i
can afford to have a semi working laptop for a while.

i think all of these bugs related to alsa, networks, and whatnot to be
related to upstart. i dont know what the change was since hardy. but i
think the push to start migrating to upstart must have triggered all
sort of conflicts (things shutting down in an unexpected order, for
example). i think this to be the case, because my personal experence is
that some bugs are quite random...sometimes when i boot, i will get no
thermal sensors, and fan would run non stop, some times, everything is
ok. some times i get stuck at ALSA shutting down, sometimes i dont,
having wlan0 on auto (/etc/network/interfaces) with my home wireless
network configured. will ONLY work when the network is available, if its
not, bringing network interfaces up during boot will timeout after 5
minutes aprox.

another issue is concerning backlight, and screen control. its laggy at
best. my fn-F3 power-off display doesnt work anymore.

i could go on ranting,.. but i dont think thats the point of this bug
report.

good luck

kill everything nicely.

do the following: keep alt-PrnScr pressed, and hit one by one the following

S
U
B

that will gracefully make the kernel shutdown, protecting your data.

[Bug 290230] Re: Intrepid - configuring network during boot takes very long

2008-10-28 Thread eldragon
i can confirm this is the case. when auto wlan0 is set. it takes one
full timeout to continue booting.

uname -a:
Linux lappy 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Fri Oct 24 06:42:44 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

interfaces:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface wlan0 inet dhcp
auto wlan0

---
if i set up a wireless network, and it happens to be in range, the network
loads correctly with no delays.

removing auto wlan0 fixes it, but defeats the purpose.

im not using the network manager, since my rt73 wireless card will not
work well with it.

[Bug 151536] Re: Hangs on login and uses 100% cpu

2008-03-13 Thread eldragon
ive got the same problem with evolution-data-server.

under hardy alpha6.

i had the problem with firefox thinking it was offline, but ive fixed it adding
the following to /etc/network/interfaces:
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wireless-essid some_ESSID
auto wlan0

now it doesnt think its offline anymore. but the issue concerning e-d-s remains.

only difference between hardy and gutsy is i didnt have an eth0
available at the time, now i have (details concerning 8139too under PIO
mode)

eth0 is set on roaming mode (aka no entry under /etc/network/interfaces
)

dont know if this helps much.

will try later to blacklist my ethernet module to see if it happens

[Bug 125179] Re: when vino is running for several hours, performance degrades, making xorg to eat up cpu usage

2007-07-27 Thread eldragon
well, actually, i wouldnt know how to reproduce the bugit just happens
when vino is up and running...
it took me a while to figure this out since vino wasnt actually showing any
performance degrading...
when the server was runningbeing connected to it (or not), performance
would degrade with time.
the process being problematic when vino is running, is not vino itself, but
xorg. could it be xorg at fault instead of vino?
killing vino fixes the issue for me.
ive been tracking xorg's logs and the kernel logs for a while trying to figure
out what the problem could be, vino isnt in them. i ended up killing vino by
chance. and presto.

[Bug 125179] when vino is running for several hours, performance degrades, making xorg to eat up cpu usage

2007-07-10 Thread eldragon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vino

ok, ive been trying to pinpoint the problem of performance degrading
under feisty fawn for a while.

i did 2 formats, different desktop environments, and yet, the problem
persisted.

you can read the thread i started @
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2949815#post2949815

i tried the following without any results:

ati closed fglrx drivers and ati open source drivers.
with compiz running, and withouth compiz running.
gnome, xfce, and kde.
formated twice, no external repositores, this problem started happening after i
decided to format and move my ubuntu partition to a raid-0 (fakeraid array).
during the second formatting, i moved the linux partition to an ATA drive, and
the /home to the raid-0 array. same results.
downgraded xorg's libraries as pointed in bug # 88815

after disabling vino, and replacing the server with x11vnc, everything
went back to normal (even vnc sessions ran smoother)

my system:
dfi lanparty UT- nf4 sli-dr
athlon64-939 3000+
4x512 ddr400 dual channel.
2x sata 80gb raid-0
several ide drives.
ati x600 128mb
